OK peeps saw this over at Space Battles how would the two fare against each other if five worhoiles appeared leading to each otheres universe

40K Space tech is superior to the Empires's.

Their supralight mobility is greater (travelling via the warp can be instantaneous with a good Navigator).

Their torpedo weaponry is insane (each torp does 310GT at LEAST) and can BDZ planets. Two light cruisers pounded a moon into dust in a matter of HOURS.

I think 40K will win. Especially if the Tyranids are unleashed.

I thought it had been decided that 40K was a match for the Empire... It would more than eat up the entirity of Babylon 5.

First ones would likely be corrupted by the various chaos deities. Lorien would just meet up with Eldrad and have a beer.

Sorry but this is so one sided it isn't even funny...

While the Imperium vs the Empire may be a close won thing, the Imperium (just the Imperium mind, no Orks, Tau, Necrons, Tyranids, Eldar or Chaos) would trounce the B5 gang...

Can you say Space Marine bording parties? Most of the warships in the Imperial Navy are bigger than the B5 station...

I doubt many Navigators in the Imperium could do that though. From what I remember of the chart in the Rulebook a warp journey from Terra to its equivilent at the other end of the galaxy takes around 5-8 months using the astronomican. An instantaneous journey can happen, but no human navigator could do it deliberately (Necrons always travel near instantaneously but they don't use warp.)

That's true. Most Imp Navs are only good for short range travel.
So we use the NEcrons or the Eldar. They can move nearly instantaneously and they can still own B5.

That's still pretty fast.

IIRC it's also possible to navigate without the astronomican by jumping within your sensor range (takes very long, though).

Actually it is the effects of the deamons enslavers and so on that slow the warp down. In the time of the Old Ones/Necrontyr war it was the same kind of speed as the necrons have (why do you think the necrons needed such ludicrous speed? An Old One portal would take you to the destination in the same kind of speed when there are no chaos gods in the way.) It is assumed the warp exists in B5 (in the same way the force is assumed to exist) wether or not the Psi in B5 affects the warp would be the deciding factor in overall speed. They do however need a fixed point of reference (IIRC the chaos gods supply their followers with an arbitery point)

So far the only thing I see affecting them is that new territory...and the possible problems with Warp.

the instant combat happens, B5 dies in a heartbeat.

I mean we get constant canon about how such and such planet is ravaged by any number of races or BDZ or just simply destroyed(I don't believe they have a DS type weapon on the arsenal but it's been a few years).

B5 is good, but this is outlandish.

In 40K only the Necrons the Old Ones (who are dead, see necrons) and the eldar (who have lost the ability) can make that kind of weapon. Humans once had the ability to move stars so that would destroy a planet, but again, that is lost tech.

40k travel is generally faster than Trek warp etc, its just it can fuck up quite spectacularly...it dont happen all the time though..but Im sure people will assume that, just like they assume Lasguns are flashlights

Oh I dunno, they can still use the Alkilamor weapons, and theres no indication that they are lost tech, indeed, Eldar tech has little thats lost the stuf that it is no longer used because of other reasons...i.e. Unshielded Spirit Engines..due to chaos, Blackstones or Talismans of Vaul, due to the Deciever.

plus they could just "turn off" the sun of various systems...or turn them up and roast the planets in the system..

they do it in the recent White Dwarf, and in "Chaos Child"

and daemon/navigators/possessed ship cores etc etc.

Well, there is the occasional runty Space Marine without armor pitted against a Narn who OD'ed on NGH (NarnGrowth Hormone) as a kid and became gigantic.

I think you'll find that the Alkilamor were destroyed to prevent them ever falling into the wrong hands. And a hell of a lot of eldar tech was lost during the fall example war-bots which they had before, they no longer have.

well anything bigger then the typical cruiser would be larger, like the battle barge and the emperor class. however none of this would matter as even a Cobra destoryer would be next to unstoppable in b5.

Forgeworld has made any Chaos aircraft yet has they.

The Alkilamor stored on that planet were destroyed, and no mention of them being the only Alkilamor was made.

And in Farseer the "apocalyptic weapons" are mentioned as well, powerful enough to defeat the Imperium.
