Kurtz remake
Ok, I am watching the Remade version of Apacalypse Now.
So, what would be a good Sci Fi version, all pricipals of the story remain the same. The military has a commander that has been sucessfully engaging the enemy in total violation of the ROE's and very much in the manner of the enemy.

It itself is an updated version of "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad.

You know, it would almost be interesting to see a Trek version. Kurtz is soooo beyond what the Feddies would find tolerable so that would be cool to see. Plus, seeing the people who go after him lose it too would be a really twisted slant away from typical Trek.
Granted this wouldn't work because of the people who "Own" Trek now but I think the contrast between the Ultra-light of the Federation and the dark of Kurtz would be cool.

By the way, how are you liking Apocolypse Now Redux?
I liked it alot. I always thought the first one was cool, especially ending with the Door's The End but I think the redone version really ends on a mostly dark and downer note, which I thought really fits with the theme.
The oringal movie and Full Metal Jacket always went well together IMO because FMJ ends with the Rolling Stones Paint it Black while AN ends with The Doors tune.

I haven't seen Redux...only the original cinematic version...
Though I have just finished reading Heart of Darkness. which was rather good...
You could have a sci-fi version, though it would have to be very dark...
Interestingly enough the fluff regarding the Night Lords traitor Space Marine legion in 40K is heavily influenced by both HoD & Apocalypse Now...
Eg their Primarch is called Konrad Kurze (Joesph Conrad & Kurtz)
Their homeworld was called Nostromo - another Conrad novel...
Basically Kurze or Night Haunter as he called himself, acted like Kurtz in Apocalypse Now...

I might add that the assassin who killed Konrad Kurze was called.... M'Sheen = Martin Sheen
