[ST] Galaxy vs. Soveriegn

Post by Uraniun235 »

It's really probably that a Galaxy would be defeated by a Soveriegn class, but the question is, by how much?

Would it be an easy, quick win? A challenge for the Sovvie, who takes a little damage? Or a near-even fight, with the Soveriegn limping away bruised and battered after all is over?

This assumes that both ships are commanded by competent people who will exploit the full strength of each ship, i.e. NOT William T-for-Turn-Tail Riker.

This ALSO assumes that the stupid "Warp Core breach in three minutes" bug on the Galaxy is NOT in place. (so no retarded "HAHA WARP CORE BREACH STUPID STARFLEET LOL OMG LOL" comments)

Sovie gets the edge because of armor, and better structural design, besides the fact that it is strictly a mil ship

Sovvies have phasers that are normally meant for starbases (I think), that should be all you need to figure out who wins.

If I were to guess on the edge, I'd say out of 6 matches the sovie wins 3, the GCS 2, and Mad for one.

This is assuming that the GCS has all the Dominion War advancements in place.

What about the alternate GCS from the Enterprise-C time travel episode, how would THAT sucker stand up in open combat?

For War GCS vs. Sovereign, I'd give the Sovereign the win with no less than 30% shields remaining at the end.

Someone please provide canon evidence that the E-E's phasers are more powerful than those of the E-D?

Probably can't be done. However, we do know that the Sovereign is a more war-oriented ship, that larger phasers exist, and that each new generation of ships brings new phasers.

An upgraded Dominion war Galaxy might win, the GCS is quite a bit more massive than the Sovvie so a war-orientated one could have bigger shield generators and more weapons than the smaller Sov. It'd be pretty close though...

If you go purely by the VFX in the episode, it's even worse than the standard GCS (as seen in The Survivors) because of the atrocious photorp firing rate, and because "continuous fire, all phasers" meant "fire the forward phasers for a few seconds". It also doesn't help that the warp core was going to breach even before the shields were knocked down.
