I have been into many Chat Rooms about Star Wars vs. Babylon 5, and most of the people say Star Wars universe wouldnt stand a chance. Sense i now nothing about B5 i was wondering what your thoughts would be on this topic?

They're utterly deluded phanboyz with no numbers. The Mimbari flagship was destroyed by a pair of two megaton bombs. The laser cannons of even the most limp dicked Star Wars vessel can beat that (Acclamator laser cannons 6MT per shot).

the people told me that B5 had a species that called Cultures or something to that effect. They had said they could whipe out the Vong? (i never even watched one episode so i have no idea who the Culture are).

?? There is an entirely seperate sci-fi universe called the culture which can beat SW easily- but as to what they're talking about *shrug*

a mod should move this into other sci-fi.

Go to the Other Sci-Fi forum. There is a sticky on that page that tells you more than you would ever need to know about the Culture. Also in the Other Sci-Fi forum, there are endless debates about B5 vs SW. One of the best site is (I hope I get this right);

It's litterature. Paper only universes are the strongest in scifi. Asimov's Empire, Eternity, Foundation, Marvel comics.

A wing of Star Wars fighters would give a Earthforce fleet a very bad day. And even the New Republic is likely to have a rate of production that far outstrips that of all the major B5 powers.

In B5, 500 mt bombs are considered doomsday weapons. In Star Wars, 600 gt weaponry is mounted on capital ships, and there are ships around that would laugh at that kind of weaponry.

The saddest part is that most of those people look at Shadows and read some stuff about the other First Ones(I remember something about the origins of Techno Mages and the ones who taught them their art have some neat abilities) and go they can do Q level powers(not really, when you read it and not skim it you realize they have some interesting tech).

Like said before they think 500MT is a doomsday weapon(big yes...but compared to SW...not much to even give a second glace).

Overall I think too many love the series too much that they get blinded that B5 gets it's ass handed to them by many of the other Sci-Fi series with ease.

Dramatically it's head and shoulders above most sci fi shows. But technologically it's way behind.

I agree. I love B5, and think it one of (if not) the greatest sci-fi series ever produced. Part of that is because of its comparatively low technology levels, but the merits of a show are generally quite independent of the technology demonstrated in that show.

One of the many rationales for my belief that will suck. The chief one is that SW is about a few, mythical heroes. What're they going to do now seems to be to cram five hundred of these heroes together in the same spot. It won't work. NPCs or not, the beginners are still gonna get their asses handed to them.

For me why it won't work is that too many will want to be smugglers ala Han Solo(or wannabe Jedis...and why can't you be a Dark Jedi and swear fealty to the Emperor?) and believe they will granted Character shields along with it.

Seriously the role I'd rather have is a n Imperial Stormtropper or some such...the ability to call for back up and have a squad at my backs is a bit more preferable.

I've yet to see any successful character playing in a MUD or a MMORPG. Usually, all we get are pathetic teenage twits who might just as well have been playing Captain Keen.
