Saving Star Trek

Post by Sothis »

Some of you may already be aware, but if not, there is presently a campaign underfoot to 'save' Star Trek.

http://www.startrekcampaign.com/index.html

I've decided, in my own limited way, to throw my weight behind this campaign, but I need help. I'm preparing an open letter to Paramount for the campaign, in which I hope to point out the various inconsistencies and plot-holes that have plagued Berman and Braga's work. Does anyone know of a site that lists any of these?

I don't mean to sound down about this because I love Trek or at least what Trek used to be but I sincerely doubt that Paramount would give a shit about plot holes and inconsistencies. The decline of Trek did not happen overnight, its been a steady plunge into the depths of mediocraty but with Voyager and especially Enterprise it has broken through that and entered the pits of TRULY GODAWFUL.

Paramount was a willing accomplice and not an innocent victim. They knew that the product is shit or at least should know and they don't care - because what really matters to them is still rolling in - the green.

I think the first thing to do is get those zombie Trektards to stop supporting the franchise, stop making it the cashcow that it is. Once the money stops rolling in I can gaurantee you that Paramount will take notice.

Until then, Paramount will look at the numbers and say that they can slap the Star Trek label on a steaming pile of shit (ie. Enterpise) and people will still watch it and pay for the merchandise.
Wherever you go, there you are.

I've just left Paramount to it.

There is no reasoning with them, they're too stupid.

Networks and ditributors often don't seem to be capable of reason even shows that get good ratings get canned (I remember hearing that SAAB got higher ratings than both DS9 and B5 yet it was canceled), you have stations putting shows in the time slot equivalent of a firing squad (Fox and firefly (plus Darkangel before that although that show did decline some what)) not to mention the way Fox treated futurama.

They care about two things - ratings and internal politics anything else is of no interest to them however good luck with the campaign I suppose theres always the chance that someone with brains will slip past the net that keeps them out of the positions of power.

Even though I don't think it'll matter, I'm going to be throwing myself behind the campaign. If there's a chance to salvage the quality of Star Trek, I think that I owe it to them to offer my support. Star Trek has given me hundreds, even thousands of hours of free entertainment, and I think that the least I can do is support it in its waning days.

This is about as pointless as digging up a dead body thats half decayed and attempting to reanimate the body.

Throw your weight behind a campaign that has a real shot at succeeding and supports an already excellant and established sci-fi show.

I didnt think that Voyager was bad, and I really like Deep Space Nine, but I think that the new show, Enterprise, really sucks. I think we should all support this, to try and hope for a better future of Star Trek.

DS9 was really good, Voyager had potential but rarely lived up to it.

Enterprise is the retard child that was born but nobody wanted, but is kept alive anyway because of them getting some sort of paycheck from the hospital for it.

The reason why, is because I have arranged a meeting between the campaign administrators and Mr Berman, Majel Barret-Roddenberry, and Mr. Braga. This meeting will happen in a few short weeks, and we intend to bombard them all at once with stacks upon stacks of your letters. Mail letters to anyone you think will listen... Make sure, though, that you send at least one letter to the campaign address below -- that will be the most help.

Good luck. They wont listen to you.

You really think all of them would be in the same room at once? What if the trekkies go berserk? It'd be like Bush, Cheney and Colin Powell attending a meeting arranged by Iraq and Al-Qaeda

Nothing wrong with a bit of necrophilia as paramount is happy to demonstrate....
