Favorite battle of Sci-Fi\Fantasy movies?

Post by Gandalf »

Of all battles protrayed in movies and TV, which is your favorite(s) and why?

I personally liked either the Battle of Dgaorlad from the first LOTR movie, or Helms Deep from the 2nd one. Basically because they were cool large scale and still focused on individual characters.

If you count Anime then I'd take the last battle between the Earth and the Zentraedi at the end of the Macross Saga. Gundam also had a lot of great battles, especially Solomon. And the free for all at the end of the Escaflowne series. Definitely.

In terms of actual cinema though I would have to say the Battle of Endor. It had everything, a raging space battle with the most bad ass superweapon ever, a vicious ground battle, a lightsaber duel, and the most Memorable ending to a film ever in my opinion.

Battle between the Whitestar fleet (under Ivoniva) and President Clark's Omega-X class destroyers (the ones with Shadow Bio-Armor melded to it). Definatly a fast paced battle that sucked you right into the T.V. and easily my favorite.

Hmm...

In no particular order:
The Battle of Endor - Return of the Jedi
The final air battle in 'Independence Day'
The Shadows' strike against the Narn task force - Babylon 5 (season 3, I think)
The battle in the nebula in the past - Andromeda

Sorry that I can't remember particular episode titles or locations for most of these. I can't ever remember such things.

Battle of Endor (mostly for "Into the Trap")
Mogadishu (As seen in Black Hawk Down)

Can't think of anything else right now, I'm probably late for school anyways.

Battle of Helm's Deep

Warg attack (Two Towers)

Last Alliance vs Sauron's forces at Mt. Doom

Pretty much any B5 battle :D

Mogadishu

Ia Dang Vally (We Were Soldiers)

Matter of fact, any WWII movie will do

Hmmmmmmmmmm.............

I'll get back to you when I can think of anything else :)
'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

Gandalf Vs Balrog - Lotr:FOTR and bits from TTT

Gandalf leading a cavalry charge into a pike block - LOTR:TTT for being so laughably stupid.

Not in order.

AOTC large scale battle scene (as well as Yoda v.s Dooku).

The whole of the Moria scene in LOTR. (The troll, the Balrog, and the old school sniper battle between Legolas and the orcs :) )

All of the fights in Gladiator (about the Roman Empire maybe, but still fictional). Particularly the Maximus vs. Tiger (the person, not the animal) fight.

And while not really a favourite, honourable mention to the Neo vs. Morpheous sparring match. Just fun to watch.

Endor just plain rocked. The episode of Firefly where Serenity's crew storms a space station to rescue their captain was pretty kickass too.

Ehh, I wouldn't feel too bad about that. I dug 'em too. Especially the first Klingon attack on DS9. Really, when did we see a battle on that scale until then in ST ?

Best Battles

Endor
Attack of the Clones Battle
Most of the Battles in DS9
Most of the B5 Battles
Kirk vs Kahn
Kirk & Sulu vs Chang( another great TOS Movie battle that gets overshadowed by Kirk vs Kahn)
Balance of Terror ( the effects weren't good but it was still a nice 1 vs 1 fight)
ID4 Final Battle

Honorable mention

The Nemesis Battle

Worst Battle

Ent-D vs a BOP in Generations ( come on the GCS was a Flawed ship but a 20 year old obsolete BOP killing one? BAH!)
Born of different worlds, woven together by fate, each shall rise to face their destiny- Grandia II, one of many reasons to be a Dreamcaster
