Here is the full text of the rambling diatribe which led us to conclude that he had made the transition to full-blown troll.
Keep in mind, all this was over a
temp ban for repeatedly flaming mods and admins for doing their jobs, which was in
turn over the mere act of moving a thread from the N&P forum to the HOS forum. Apparently, if you move a thread from N&P to HOS it's censorship, and if you give a guy a 1 week temporary ban for refusing to stop flaming the entire staff over it, it's the Holocaust.
Axis Kast wrote:Let us first clarify what this e-mail is not: an attempt to better understand the chain of events just passed. In fact, I must insist that I have been treated too well: a friend of mine was tossed out in his ear for supposed transgressions far inferior to what you insist was my own unacceptable behavior. I can only conclude that you are, in fact, hesitant to see me go, as at least one of your former "senators" has suggested to me in private. I honestly cannot begin to imagine why.
I take great and ironic delight in being accused of "insulting" a moderator for "doing their job." As I recall, the insults made were ancillary to my main point, which is that Edi clearly did not exercise sound judgment. And so, you see, I was not merely insulting him -- a time-honored tradition on your boards, and one which you and others defend with a striking vigor -- but also accusing him of bias and emphasizing his rank incompetence.
Your custom, when confronted with an opinion which is not your own, or even facts that are inconvenient, is to vigorously assert your intellectual superiority and then pitch a right good fit, using all sorts of colorful language. My custom, when confronted with the insulting and idiotic behavior of a tin star marshal, is to make my feelings known directly.
The seven years spent on StarDestroyer.net has certainly been an education. There is an old saying first offered by Martin Niemoller: "First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out." Being assured so many times that I was incorrect, dishonest, inarticulate, and plainly misguided, I frequently asked from other members -- those not involved directly in the many discussions in which I participated -- their honest opinions regarding the issues and the arguments. The replies were never once, "I don't understand what would compel you to hold such views," or, "They've laid out plainly enough why you are wrong," but, "You were dealt with unfairly and your arguments were sound, but I don't think it's worth making a fuss, because this isn't a battle you can win," or, "Nobody ever addressed the argument which you were making, and it appears that you are being accused primarily of not balancing out comments critical of liberals with those critical of George Bush, but I don't want to jeopardize my standing on the forum. I require their community."
Others may require your community. After seven years of shabby treatment, I've come to realize that it's less a society of people interested in discussion of issues than an angry circle-jerk of persons who simply cannot understand why it is that the world cannot also recognize their great genius, and who cannot be bothered to behave with a scrap of civility. You could say that, "This is the Internet. Anonymity breeds assholes. Somebody insulted you? Get over it. You were warned when you arrived." I would say: I am over it. However, it seems to me that if one cannot resist the temptation to sneer and leer, curse and spit, on the Internet, one is obviously a troubled individual with a great deal of pent-up resentment toward society at large. I imagine you feel that people just don't give you your rightful due. What a sad life you must lead! The fact that some of you -- Edi and Mike in particular, given my recent second reading of threats in which Jason_T was run out of town for a rail for what amounted to sharing an opinion which he freely admitted could not be substantiated by evidence -- also have such thin skin when you perceive that you have not been given the same lack of politeness is purest irony. Guess what? Star Wars is science fiction fantasy. Not everybody is going to agree that it is quantifiable. Shocking, I know.
In conclusion, do have fun. You have successfully driven out every voice of contrary or alternative opinion, or sat silent while it happened. What an accomplishment for men and women of intellectual and moral vigor! I am sure your track record in that respect will remain strong in the future.
"Drama queen" is an understatement. Chmee (a very left-leaning person) was banned for
much less obnoxious behaviour than this, and right-leaning individuals such as Count Chocula were never banned. Even full-blown fundies like jegs2 were never banned, although he does apparently prefer to be active in forums where you can get praised for saying the sort of things Glenn Beck would say.
In any case, right-wing persecution syndrome has become a full-blown pathology, where their
first instinct is always to cry "Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!", but the fact remains that if you actually observe the rules, we don't care whether you lean right or left. Kast was given free reign for
seven years, never getting kicked out until he finally started telling the staff to go fuck themselves over the mere act of moving a thread from one forum to another, and yet he still had the gall to accuse us of keeping right-wing voices out. Oh no, if you're a right-winger you better not sign up on stardestroyer.net, they'll only give you seven years!
