[Vote] Ban Poll for Jedi Guardian
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Imperial Senate, today I present to you the case of Jedi Guardian.
With the approval of the Mods, I hereby propose the punishment of PERMANENT BAN for the following offences:
Plagiarism (a bannable offence as per the case of Lord_Jax)
Brown-nose spamming
Hijacking a thread with worthless bullshit
And, my personal favorite,
Either admitting illegal activity (PR2) or lying his ass off (PR3), or both. (If he's 13 then he lied about owning a gun. If he owns a gun, then he lied about being 13. Either way, he lied, and possibly committed a felony).
As well as the creation of numerous stupid threads, and providing absolutely no benefit to the board, with no desire or ability to change demonstrated.
This poll shall be open for 3 days.
Have a very nice day.

If one of my students pulled that little Wikipedia stunt, he'd fail. He wouldn't get a warning, he wouldn't get a little nametag with an insulting name, he wouldn't get special classroom privleges taken away. He'd simply fail the assignment, and if it was a test or a major project, he'd probably fail the entire marking period. In fact, I DID wind up failing two students last quarter because they got zeros on exams upon which they cheated.
If my students get real life consequences for plagarism, then Jedi Guardian can deal with getting kicked off a message board. He can consider it a valuable life lesson, and maybe think twice before he does it in high school and maybe wrecks his GPA, or college and gets thrown out of school entirely.
Permanant ban. We don't tolerate plagarists here.

Do we know he actually plagarized the wiki article? By that I don't mean prove he copy pasted it, we know that; but if he contributed to the article would it not be more quoting himself instead of plagarism?

No, he pretty much admitted he C&Ped it and tried to pass it off as his own.Ender wrote:Do we know he actually plagarized the wiki article? By that I don't mean prove he copy pasted it, we know that; but if he contributed to the article would it not be more quoting himself instead of plagarism?

what the fuck, what an immature little stupid teenager. (deal with a lot of them at work), unfortunatly he looks more like someone who just needs to grow up, he's definatly suffering from adolecent testoserone poisoning.

Even if he hadn't admitted it, the shift in vocabulary and writing style, and the sudden absense of spelling and grammar mistakes, was a dead giveaway it wasn't his. It was immediately apparent it was plagarized before it was even known from where he'd plagarized it.Ender wrote:Do we know he actually plagarized the wiki article? About the gun thing, he said he "was just kidding." So he was either trying to talk big about having a gun illegally (I wouldn't really call that "kidding"), or is lying about not having a gun.
The illegal gun incident was made on February 14th. On February 7th, he said he was "going to even memorize the rules."
Now, in addition, Jedi Guardian has also stated that "this is one of the only sites that [his] computer will let [him] go to." I'm not really sure what kind of Internet filter would filter out most of the Internet's web pages but still allow much access to SDN, especially since the filters I have seen tend to block a number of topics due to the language used. I'm not sure if he's being honest here, or he's just trying to gain sympathy points.

That was totally nuts. I was scrolling through the thread, saw that post, went back up to make sure it was the same guy who posted that other stuff, laughed at his (lack of?) effort, and then read down where people were citing the source for his plagiarized bullshit. It was blatantly obvious.RedImperator wrote:Even if he hadn't admitted it, the shift in vocabulary and writing style, and the sudden absense of spelling and grammar mistakes, was a dead giveaway it wasn't his. Jedi Guardian is a bit of a queer duck, a neophyte obviously desperate for attention and belonging, but evidently unwilling or unable to make the slightest effort to straighten up and fly right. Not only has he failed to meet his responsibility to read and obey the rules of his own accord, but he has in fact disregarded numerous corrections by senior members of the community. He has been given numerous opportunities, and has consistently demonstrated that he is not fit for participation in this community. This Senator votes that he be permanently banned from this board.

Yeah its a bandwagon vote but he's shown less than zero tendency to contribute positively while displaying a knack for adding pointless orotherwise worthless shite. The rule breaking just makes it easier, drop the hammer on him.

Ban.
My reasons:
1) Failure to read the fucking rules despite more than one occassion when they have been pointed out, explained, and linked.
2) Failure to learn to behave, indicating no potential to become civilized or inability to absorb knowledge and education.
3) Multiple hijacks - this asswipe simply can't take a hint, can he?
and the biggest reason of all:
4) PLAGARISM - intolerable. Unacceptable everywhere.
Boot his ass into next week, make him walk the plank, drop the hammer on him, etc., etc. IF he learns anything from it, the next message board he posts on may thank us for the effort. If he can't or won't learn, we don't need him anyway.

At first, I was thinking maybe a nice, long temp ban. He's 13, after all. Young and stupid. (Or stupid and young, as someone in chat put it.) Maybe when he's a couple years older if may still be interested and perhaps become a productive member. And he did apologize for the plagiarism and I expect that he won't repeat that mistake. However, he did ignore Surlethe's advice. And, after Jedi Guardian's latest flailing, what can I say, but...
Ban.
Ban.

Bydie-bye, Jedi Guardian. Your theme song shall be Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, "Don't Come Around Here No More".
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

THE TIME OF JUDGMENT IS HERE.
The user known as "Jedi Guardian" has been found GUILTY of the charges presented in this thread's opening post. For a serious violation of the following rule:
PR3, for the charge of Plagiarism, in the case of posting a Wikipedia article as his own words:
DR1, for the charge of Thread Hijacking, in the case of hijacking a thread regarding another user's real-life military promotion to talk about his own postcount and stars:

If it is found that you have lied about your identity, your background, your accomplishments, or your status in life, you may face disciplinary action. If you are found to be consistently dishonest in forum discussions, that may also lead to disciplinary action.

PR2, for the charge of bragging about an illegal activity, specifically illegal ownership of a firearm:Do not "hijack" threads by trying to change the subject in mid-stream. However, there are times when, in the judgement of our staff, someone has deliberately ignored or tried to change the subject of a thread.
AR1, for the charge of Back-seat Moderating, for posting a pointless thread warning newbies who were "worse off" than he was to read the rules:This forum is not an "underground" forum. This means that you will refrain from bragging about serious violations of the law that you have committed, you will not solicit or offer pirated software of any kind, you will not incite criminal activities, etc.
The user known as "Jedi Guardian" has been BANNED, as judged by this Administrator pursuant to rule IR2:If you have a complaint about another member, contact one of the moderators of the forum in which the alleged offense took place.
