Trade Control Alliance:

History in Brief

The Trade Control Alliance (TCA) was formed shortly after the Givin started to tax trade moving along the Corellian Trade Spine and the Rimma Trade Route. Once the amount of revenue being generated was high enough to cause other planets to start questioning their right to tax such major trade routes. As pressure mounted they calculated the odds of war as being far lower with an alliance and the infulence it would bring so they petitioned other nearby worlds to join them in exchange for a share of the revenue gained by taxing the two rich space lanes. The debate was short with only the Atzerri and Devaron showing any resistance to joining the alliance of worlds however the threat of embargo and a convincing speech by President Eizen Acker of Teyr both planets reluctantly signed into the alliance.

With the alliance formed they knew they had to start building up a force to ensure that their taxation of the space lanes could continue. To this end they looked to purchase Old Republic equipment used in the clone wars due to both ease of acquisition and the fact that it was rugged and easy to use. The price was right and soon worlds were garrisoned by troops using clone wars era blasters and armor, and with clone war ear fighters. Over the coming years they purchased heavier ships favoring, favoring the older clone wars era fighters, high end Marauder corvettes for custom duties and Dauntless cruisers and Carrack light cruisers for their reliability and good reputation. Space stations and planetary shields were also purchased and installed in this era.

Now that they have the might to defend their claim they aggressively capture trade with their gravity well station. However the mainly human soldiers of the TCA disliked living on Yag'Dhul with the stuffy and non-interactive Givin. This lead to the creation of a large space station capable of holding a large population this station has been expanding since it's creation and is now a mini system consisting of 20 large asteroids and many smaller habitats and space stations. Recently a planetary strength shield generator has been added to defend this important outpost.

With the alliance established the Givin were slowly removed from power, their math based system of government not being understood or wanted by their allies. While Yag'Duhl is still the nominal capital and the most important world in the alliance, it is Teyr where the power lies after their bureaucracy slowly consolidated power. This shift hasn't yet caused destabilization of the alliance, but it remains to be seen what the future might hold.

Persons of Importance

Prime Calculus Yandor Fthul

The most mathematically inclined of all the Givin and the nominal leader of the alliance. He knows his power is eroding but has been busied with theoretical maths and is getting data feeds from research stations monitoring the edge of the universe and searching for the hyperspace barrier. He is far more engaged in this task and has let the ruling of the alliance fall on other shoulders.

President Eizen Acker

An ambitious Teyrite who rose to the position of President of Teyr shortly after the alliance was formed. He chaffed under the rigidity of the Givin system of government and slowly brokered power for himself in a series of back room deals. His official position within the Alliance is Minister of Trade, but in reality he sets foreign policy.

The Rachuk Republic
A New Republic splinter faction

History

When the New Republic's leadership was destroyed by a singular incident in the Coruscant system, much of the galaxy fell into disarray. The Rachuk Sector, however, benefitted by having the worlds of Commenor and Vladet, who through their many years of civilization and establishment, had seen many regimes come and go. With the proper resources in hand, leaders from both planets decided that a new direction should be taken, and that they should finally try their own style of government. The Rachuk Republic was born, and both Hensara III and Damoria, other key players in the region, joined the forming Republic to protect their interests.

It has been two years and the Republic has done well, preventing beaucratic rot and corruption, in addition to building a formidable military. However, as it is the case for all governments, many problems sit on the horizon, and only time will tell how this nation fares in addressing them.

Political System

The Rachuk Republic is organized into a bicameral legislature, with both a House of Representatives, and a Senate. The House of Representatives is composed of representatives from each member world and colony. The amount of representatives is determined by population. The following is a list of member worlds, and their rank, in terms of numbers of representatives: 1) Commenor 2) Vladet 3) Damoria 4) Hensara III 5) Chorax 6) Darek 7) Talasea.

The Senate is made up of four senators from each world, for a grand total of 28 senators. While it had typically been the custom of the Galactic Republic to have only two senators per world, the lower number of member worlds in the Republic prompted the ratifiers of the Charter to allow for a higher number of senators per world. The Senate is generally considered the more prestigious house, given the lower number of members.

The Republic is led by a President, who is both leader of the civilian government, and commander of the military. While both houses must vote in favor of new legislation, the President has the power to either ratify or veto it (although his veto can be overridden if a piece is put up in both the Senate and House again and voted through in both house's with a 2/3rd's majority).

The House of Representatives is the only house with the power to impeach the President, although the Senate is the only one who can confirm Ministers.

Each section of government is run by a Minister - covering such things as Health, Education, Finance, Defense, and Energy.

Political Parties: Socialists (Major), Reformists (Major), Militarists (Major), True Commenorians (Minor), Populists (Minor), Authoritarians (Minor), Justicars (Minor)

Socialists - Strong central government, belief in social welfare.
Reformists - Desire to reform government, and rely on more capitalistic ideals.
Militarists - Strong belief in central government, although they believe the nation should be a military state, with compulsory armed forces service, and civilian life abolished (at least for now, with the galaxy in a state of crisis).

True Commenorians - Supporters of Commenor - they have an intense dislike for the other member worlds, and want Commenor to secede from the Republic, taking the military. While a decidedly minor group, they bear mention because they are quite vocal in their opposition to the Republic.
Populists - They want the government to switch from a representative democracy, to a true one - with every member voting on issues.
Authoritarians - In favor of a police state, Authoritarians are similar to Militarists in their belief of compulsory military service, however, they believe the head of government should be a strong and benevolent dictator to eliminate bureaucratic waste.
Justicars - The Justicars believe the government should be run by a council of judges, and other wise officiates. Similar to the Authoritarians, they do not agree with the democratic direction of the Republic.

* Note: There are other political parties that do not have memberships of significant note.

Key Figures:

President - Zhovan Andrak - Party: Socialists - Platform: A firm believer in the Republic, President Andrak has guided the Republic well during its formative years. Although a source of contention for the Reformists and Militarists, President Andrak still commands respectable popularity amongst all parties, and this is reputed to be part of the Republic's political stability. He is a firm supporter of the Jedi, although this position is starting to cause contention amongst members of the Senate and House.

Judicial System

The Republic maintains a supreme court composed of fourteen justices (two from each member world), the Supreme Court is the final arbiter on all matters of law, and has the express ability to interpret ambiguities in the Charter.

The Charter

This document outlines the functions of government and citizen rights, it may only be modified by Congress, and only if each house ratifies a modification with a 2/3rds majority.

Member Worlds
There are seven member worlds, each is denoted on the flag of the Republic. Commenor is by itself at the top of the flag, the three industrial and economic powerhouses of Vladet, Hensara III, and Damoria are to the left, and the three other worlds, Chorax, Darek, and Talasea are to the right.

Commenor (Capital - Homeworld) - 600 points
- A civilized world that has existed for thousands of years, and a beginning point for the human race, Commenor - although not technically in the Core, has enjoyed the respect of a core world for milennia. With a powerful industrial base, and prominent shipyards, Commenor is a founding member of the Rachuk Republic and one of its most powerful components. The Congress assembles in Chasin City on Commenor, and the 1st Fleet calls this world home.

- The former capital of the Rachuk sector, Vladet is a world full of wealthy humans and hearty laborers. With a strong industrial base, and a healthy financial footing, Vladet is a critical member of the Rachuk Republic and a key contributor in the formation of the sector's government.

Talasea (Colony) - 50 points
- Formerly a prestigious world in the Colonies territory of the Old Repblic, this planet lost much of its population throughout the years until the final segment that inhabited it was eradicated by Darth Vader during the Jedi purge. It is not actually located inside the Rachuk sector, but resides in the Morobe system. The Rachuk Republic has started a colonization effort as there are many raw resources to be used, and it is hoped that, like Darek, that this world will be properly developed and become a valuable contributor to the Republic in years to come.

Problems

Illegal activity in the Chorax system - Despite many attempts by the Republic to squash the illegal activity in the Chorax system, there has been little progress. Piracy, spice and slave trading still occur rampantly, and while the piracy can occasionally be hampered by a strong showing of the Rachek Defense Force - when units are pulled away from the system it swiftly returns. There is no clear idea of how to solve this problem, at the moment, and some have even rumored that the Hutts have their hands in the dealings on Chorax. Regardless, Chorax's senator has pleaded fiercely for additional military forces to end the rampant crime, but his pleas have fallen mostly on deaf ears, as the insular and powerful major worlds that compose the Republic appear content to ignore the problem at the moment.

Mistrust of the Jedi- Although the establishment of the Rachuk Jedi Order was seen by many, including the President of the Republic as a positive and a step in the restoration of the old Galactic Republic - there are many who do not trust the Jedi, and are fearful of the growing academy. A few representatives have even launched motions to the exile the Jedi, claiming they're a threat to the security of the nation. For now, the issue is at a stands still, but a few government insiders speculate that any major slip up of the Jedi could have disastrous consequences for political stability.

Security - While the Rachuk Defense Force has one of the most advanced and powerful force compositions of the known Republic factions, there is great concern over Imperial aggression. While the Defense Force is quite able to hold its own against most fleets in the galaxy, even with a slight numerical disadvantage, the potential for several Imperial factions or neutral factions to assault the Rachuk Republic's interior exists. Both representatives and senators alike have been pressuring the President to find regional powers with similar ideals as the Republic, in the hopes that defense or at the very least, trade treaties can be established.

Political concerns - For the most part, The Republic is remarkably politically stable. The government functions as it should, without much corruption or bureaucratic delay. However, as the President nears his third year in office, many senators and representatives are starting to question his leadership policies. One subject that has recently been brought to the attention of the media, is the question of the Republic's role. For the last few years, The Republic has acted as a sort of intergalactic peace force - resolving trade disputes, providing natural disaster relief and conducting humanitarian efforts, and lastly - defending territories outside of the Republic from pirate activity. And while this has gained the Republic some favor in it is region of space, there are those who feel the Republic should focus on the issues inside its own border, including the criminal activity in the Chorax system. Additionally, while it is rarely discussed in session, it is well known that Damoria and Hensara III harbor a bit of ill will towards Commenor and Vladet for both their affluence and political position (both worlds have a higher share of representatives in the House). Secondly, leaders on Vladet are privately angry with the Commenorians, who - when the Republic was formed - demanded that Commenor be made the capital, despite Vladet's role as sector capital for hundreds of years.

Military technology - While most agree that the Republic's military is one of its strongest assets, and most are pleased at both the speed and strength of the Republic's militarization program, many of the top brass feel that there is still alot of work to be done. In particular, all five fleets still have several legacy ships, such as the Dreadnought and Assault-class Frigates, and the top admirals in charge of the navy would like to see these replaced by newer Majestic and Corona-class frigates, as they become available.

Rachuk Jedi Order

The Rachuk Jedi Order (known only as the Jedi Order to its members and citizens of the Republic) was formed by two Jedi Masters that saw a need to rebuild what had once been a great and powerful organization for Jedi to gather amongst. The President of the Republic has supported this effort so far, and provided the Order with two military ships to use for its own purposes. In exchange, the Order has agreed to assist the Republic military in times of need.

There is, of course, a bit of contention about the Order and its role in Republic society, but the debate regarding its existence is still being resolved.

The Rachuk Republic

Military
The Rachek Defense Force is the military arm of the Republic. It is composed of a navy, army, marine and starfighter corps. While the Navy and Starfighter Corps handle space superiority, the Marines are in charge of ship security, and planetary invasions. The Army strictly handles planetary defense. The Defense Force is led by a supreme commander, who is selected by the President from the top echelons of the Navy, Army, Marine, or Starfighter Corps. The current supreme commander is a naval officer.

The RDF has a very advanced and powerful force composition, a result of an expensive and hasty militarization effort by the member worlds of the Rachuk Republic in its early months of formation. The Navy fields several advanced New Republic warship designs from the New Class program, and each fleet is composed of a multitude of ships that serve a variety of roles, making the effective battle strength of each fleet quite formidable. While the number of vessels in the Defense Fleet is more comparable to a single New Republic battlegroup, what the Defense Force lacks in numerical strength it makes up for in technology and training.

The pride of the military is its Nebula-class Star Destroyer program, which has managed to put six Nebula-class Star Destroyers in each fleet, a tremendous feat that gives each fleet impressive firepower. Current issues that face the military, however, are a need to finish the modernization plans enacted two years ago, and to further evaluate and expand the defensive capabilities of the Republic.

Branches

Department of the Navy - Tasked with handling all issues related to space superiority, the Department of the Navy has the highest defense budget and is the most technologically advanced of all defense forces. The Nebula-class Star Destroyer is symbolic of the Navy and military's commitment to a strong, advanced and lasting defense.

Department of the Army - Tasked solely with ground defense on all Republic worlds, the Army specializes in fighting conflicts on foot. Unlike most other powers, the Army does not handle invasions of other planets, rather - that is the role of the Marine Corps.

Department of the Starfighter Corps - The Starfighter Corps encompass all starfighter craft attached to naval, army, and marine assets. Only the most individually talented and sharpest members of the military qualify for pilot assignments, and in the Starfighter Corps they field a variety of craft, including the famed X-Wing, and experimental E-Wing. The Endurance-class Fleet Carrier is the symbol of the Starfighter Corps, as it is assigned to all major fleets to supplement their standing star fighter capacity and it is the only patform from which E-Wings launch from.

Department of the Marine Corps - The Marine Corps is one of the most dangerous components of the military, being tasked with the dreaded prospect of planetary invasion, should it prove necessary. They are under the command of the Department of the Navy, and handle ship and installation security when not needed for other missions. Each planetary assault force is equipped with the best gear and mechanized units available.

Special Operations Command - Special Operations Command is a special branch of the Defense Force responsible for manning all re-supply bases, shipyards, planetary weapons platforms (such as the Golan Stations), planetary defense weapons (ion and laser cannons), shield generators, and also manning the Jedi fleet (consisting of a Firestar-class carrier and a Corona-class Frigate). Special Operations Command also provides staff and crew for the Republic's research station.

Organization

Naval Prefix: RRS (Rachuk Republic Ship)

Naval assets are organized into five fleets of identical composition. All fleets are capable of being deployed rapidly throughout Republic territory, and while each fleet does have a home base that it is generally found to be defending, there are no formal defense assignments for the Navy.
