Just a note, Lancer: the support cruisers picked up on your initial communications, not the tightbeam. The message wasn't intercepted, either way.

Darkevilme, want to discuss casualties so far? On one hand, ranges are still pretty far, minimizing damage for both sides. On the other, you are outnumbered 2-1. I'd say, how about, the loss of 1 thrall ship with four damaged in exchange for the loss of 1 "Light Against Ignorance" frigate and damage to the Assiduous, a "Soaring Grace of Freedom"-class armoured cruiser.

Or, if you'd like, we can up the lethality of the exchange and assume that that past exchange encompasses the entire long-range part of the battle.

Quick question, though- are your main warships in range of the engagement, or is it just the thralls? My post was written on the assumption that your main warships are in range and are firing as well, with you placing your thralls ahead of the main fleet in a picket formation.

Probably in a few hours or even a day or so... after all, ships don't just sit around at full combat readiness all the time ready to leap off on a major operation.

The thralls are basically there to die in the place of the chamarans, i dont expect any to survive. And the chamarans are firing at long range while running the hell away. Your fixation with realspace engines means that this will get to the messy short range battle though the chamarans will be choosing a vector to run away from about a third of your fleet seen as you split it up. Also uh, what's producing this heavy interdiction field as by my read the only thing you have that does interdiction is 1 points from the pickets. which isnt going to stop the chamarans with their upped hyperdrives from pulling out after taking some, admittedly painful, losses. Which means you get to launch your 'proper' ground invasion to liberate your mates down there on the planet.

OK. I've got 8 of the little 1-pointers, together that's not enough to stop your escape, of course, but it does muddy it up and give me more time- especially because my rabbit-fast realspace engines will let me close and kill.

As for the split up, my force is still mutually supporting, it's just arranged in three seperate battlegroups, with two forwards groups and one a little behind- a shallow U shape, if you will.

Thoughts on the losses so far as I suggested?

So far sure, the makay thralls arent going to last much longer but with any luck the threat of a close range missile barrage is enough to at least give your ships pause to finish them off before moving in to nip at the chamarans with oversized guns. I reckon one of the thrall ships will ram the Assidous if its trying to go by.

Space combat takes place at ranges of hundreds of thousands of kilometers; "close" range means that the ships are merely tens of thousands of kilometers away. In other words, ramming tactics don't make a lot of sense, at least not against an armed, maneuvering warship.

OK, quotre function isn'tr working for mee at this computer, but this is in response to thirdfain...

Im going to have to disagree.. This is set some time after the first attack at Makay, and in that time ive been gather my fleet together.

I HAD planeed to make several posts statting in fact that my fleet WAS ready to jump at a moments notice... indeed you would have to pass by or near my space to Go to makay... I would KNOW the moment you were getting close and would Choose THAT moment to launch.

The fact that you went ahead adecided to ghun by in the first few posts shouldn't nagate that fact that my forces SHOULD have been prepared to jump, and would leap with you to arrive...at the latest, withen an hour or so fo your forces.

After all, I don't want to miss the fun by showing up late...

It also takes place between ships that can take single digit GTs and survive. Ramming isn't a great tactic, but a few million tons of guided wreckage coming at you is still a major concern. No captain in his right-mind would do it, but in a pinch, ships are tough enough and fast enough that they can make an attempt.

The bigger thing to worry about is just that the ship is going to keep coming closer and closer while firing, and not worrying about the fire its taking. If it hits you in the end or not is another story.

*contemplates writing Legion as a full power, has lost count of how many ships are heading the kitties way* soo am i to take it that the syndicalist war fleet is basically bullrushing through the thrall formation to get to the real targets, who are currently fleeing for their lives towards where they can punch a U-space portal?

If you pull back home you are pretty much fine until your next noticed incursion. The Internationalle and Kushawni combined don't have the man-power to militarily search the several billion cubic light years that you can hide in to the northwest of Makay.

Hoo boy, are they brushing aside the pickets- though keep in mind, your thrall ships are actually light cruisers- pretty bulky, and probably armed with some nasty close-in armament. However, they're not going to put up much of a fight, really- I'll post my next actions after you post a response to my attack.

Longest. Minute. EVER!

Anyway, the Sonya O. is gone (do I mark that on my OOB?) and the Virginia is going to try to sneak out of Megasrl (though the Kushawni patrol know where it's starting from).

Also:
1. I'm going to update my OOB with info on syndicalism in Alpha Cephi and Theta Mira. (the situation on Alpha Cephi probably won't sit well with the Dawn Star folk if they catch word of it)

2. I've got an idea for a minifac, but I'd like to know if it would be okay for them to A. have a functional 60pt imperial ship, B. have a shipyard which can build more, and C. try make a business out of building 60 pointers for the highest bidder.

I like the mini-faction idea. Just don't give yourself very many industrial points, then you'll have to recieve points via +T vessels to make them.

Yeah I just based my points off what you gave your two. (10 pt bigass shipyard 400pt fleet 100pt improved shipyard) So I'll just make sure it's all functional within the rules and finish up their background fluff.

I'm going with Legion having no upkeep, no planets and only possibly getting new ships sent in from legion space(ie if they're all sploded i actually probably wont say there's more of them). So there's just six of these ships that'll go cruise up to various powers to try and spread the song, cause first contact looks fun. *Writes up Legion's tour schedule, humanist union, Syndicalist union and possibly Moloch for the last two*

Ohma: Just to inform you, when Brookes says she's ordered those acts, she's done it via "machine-speak," which you occasionally see mentioned in my posts. It's basically just implant-assisted communication.

Okay so barring any unforeseen incidents along the way ( ) the Aaronsohn and the Hall are heading back to Bara where they'll be debriefed and refitted for their next patrols, probably to Makay (where they'll be lucky to not run into Crossroads and Thirdfane's fleets) and Malacaster.

I think that with the Sonya O. and the Kawashima won't be considered overdue for another few days real time, so Tan and I can finish up any loose ends with that probably well before a small Dom fleet comes knocking at the edge of Dayab.

EDIT: and Lancer too probably, sorry for forgetting about you dude.

EDIT2: Err, I mean Moloch, the Doms don't know Malacaster exists.
