PeZookia declares neutrality in Shepistan-Old Dominion conflict

In a public adress made today, King Paul declared PeZookia will remain neutral in the conflict between MESS and Shepistan.

"No hostile action of any kind will be authorized by my government against Shepistani forces. All Shepistani merchant ships currently in PeZookian ports will receive 24 hours to leave before being interred for the duration of the conflict.

For all other matters, relevant conventions will apply.", said the press release issued shortly after the televised statement.

The government has also assured the Japanistani consul that Japanistan is not considered a belligerent in any way, shape or form, unless it allows bomber strikes against the MESS from its territorry. Normal relations with Japanistan will continue, including negotiations regarding flyovers of manned spaceships made in pursuit of the FASTA Moon Program.

1st Hussars Division withdrawn from Zagor, to be redeployed to Jerusalem

OEN reporters were informed today that the 1st Hussars Division, currently stationed in the Socialist Republic of Zagor, will be withdrawn and redeployed to Jerusalem along with the 122ns Armored Cavalry Division, as part of an international SNC command authority.

Reasons for this decision were not disclosed, but assurances were issued that there is no offensive intent.

PeZookian liaison officers leave for Astaria

Boarding a military transport plane, a team of sixteen police officers and technicians left for the reclusive country of Astaria, to liaise with authorities there in search of PeZookian students kidnapped in summer of 2008.

"The Sovereignty of Shroomania will not be a participant in any war between Shepistan and the Old Dominion. Instead, we implore both nations - and the leaders of their governments and militaries - to cease these pointless hostilities. There is nothing to be gained from this conflict, there is nothing to be had in perpetuating this decades-long string of violence. The loss of life from this latest war will only add to the accumulated death toll of half a century of violence."

To the Imperial Japanistani Government

The Sovereignty of Shroomania joins Japanistan's commitment to peace and the cessation of hostilities in the Shepistani-Old Dominion region.

However, we cannot pledge a military force to oversee a demilitarization of the disputed territories if both Shepistan and the Old Dominion continue their conflict - as it represents an undue risk to Shroomanian personnel and risks undermining Shroomania's position of neutrality.

The Sovereignty of Shroomania would also like to ask for a formal clarification of intent from Japanistan in regards to the Shepistan-Old Dominion situation as Japanistan has neither announced its neutrality nor has it announced its support of either nation.

Shroomania, on its part, has declared its neutrality in the conflict and fully intends to continue normal relations with Japanistan.

Both the Serenity and Mangka Carrier Task Force began moving, with all eyes and ears watching from skies to surface to the deep sea, Homewater Defense vessels accompanying them until the edge of territory while patrol aircraft flew around.

Far behind them, the Kingdom seemed extremely quiet. But in truth the Air Force was all over the sky while the Good Mountain Squadron was primed for their own attack run. Ground forces were moving to their defense points and air defenses were on full alert.

Presidential Palace, downtown San Dorado

Out of the blue, the PSS-men burst into the presidential bedroom with precious disregard for protocol or decency. “Sir, the Paragon has declared a level one emergency”, stated the senior agent, who tactfully ignored the scarcely dressed presence of Director Daphne Sinclair in the kingsize bed. “We need you to come with us immediately.”

Half a sleep and muttering a series of increasingly rude curses president Hank pulled himself upright. “What’s the matter? Have the commies finally come for us?”

“No sir”, the security agent shook his head. “It’s the Old Dominion and Shepistan. MIC and EIA both report planes in the air and missiles being launched. It’s war sir – possibly World War Three, even, because the Old Dominion invoked article three just minutes ago. We’re evacuating all key personnel to FOOTHILL.”

“She’s coming with me”, said the president, pointing at Daphne and already getting up from the bed to put on some clothes. The PSS-man looked like he wanted to object but Hank cut him off. “Don’t be an idiot, man. ‘Everyone’ includes the entire Board, which she’s on. She’s coming with me.”

“What’s FOOTHILL?” Daphne asked, sliding off the bed to hurriedly put on some clothes of her own.

“You’ll see soon enough”, muttered the president.

Both the director and the president were hushed through the luxurious corridor by PSS agents until they came to the Presidential Library. A book case had pivoted aside on a hidden mechanism to reveal a waiting elevator behind it. Entering, the president put his thumb against the finger print scanner and sent the elevator swiftly sliding downward.

“It’s not common knowledge”, the president said to no-one in particular. “but the Palace is built on the very same spot where Sir Siegfried Shroom erected his first fort, and where later the mansion of the governor of San Dorado stood. Keeping in mind the possibility of mutiny or worse, the governors built a series of escape tunnels that would allow them to vamoose in case their control over the populace slipped. After the independence the knowledge of these tunnels was lost, until construction of the Palace’s foundation began and they were rediscovered. And, well…”

The elevator came to a halt, and with a merry chime the doors slid open, revealing an underground train station bathed in a dull yellow light. PSS agents mulled about a beautifully crafted art deco coach. President Hank smiled. “My predecessors and I thought it would be quite handy to have a quick and secret escape route in case the shit hits the fan. That railway leads straight out of the city and into the emergency bunker in the Kirkwood Mountains. So, darling, hop aboard!”

Followed directly by the security agents they boarded the train. The doors were closed behind them. Inside the well-appointed carriage another agent was waiting for them next to a radio set. “Sir, communiqué from the FTO. They ask if we want to stay neutral or declare sides.”

“Are they nuts? Have you looked at the state of us? Tell them that of course we stay neutral!” The president sat down into a comfy seat and pulled up a cool decanter of wine from the train’s minibar. “As long as the big boys are playing, we keep our heads down and hope for the best. Under no circumstances should we let ourselves be pulled into this conflict. We’d be crushed like frickin’ bugs.”

The train jerked into motion, rolling swiftly down into the dark of the underground tunnels. The president swallowed a mouthful of wine and offered Daphne a glass as they began their hour-long journey to the emergency bunker. They were both silent. That was just as well to president Hank. He knew there’d be clamoring alarms and yelling people on the other end. Best to savor the quiet whilst it lasted.

No prior posts in which anything less were used against them that supposedly resulted in kills will have that specific section valid, though the rest of the posts will be valid, but players such respectfully increase casualties to their raids if they continued through a defended zone.

CSR 2nd Carrier Group, fire trials in the Northern Sea just off CSR coast

The Su-33s of the 1st Wing test-fired the missiles against a "target" - an old bulker which was outfitted with multiple transmitting videocameras and other sensors.

The 1st Wing scored multiple hits.

But the stress data and the speeds and vectors of missiles were more important.

Next stage of trials included launches of air-to-air counter-missiles versus several old-stock Harpoon missiles provided by Byzantium.

Indhopal Oficially Neutral is MESS Shepistan Conflict

Indhopal's Government released a statement saying they were neutral in the conflict brewing halfway around the world. Indhopal's military would maintain a high level of alert, especially with a MESS puppet in the neighborhood. Indhopal would also not tolerate belligerent aircraft or ships in its territory.

It was a dark rainy night, not a star in the sky could be seen. The streets were wet and deserted, with only the occasional stray dog around. Ivan ran down the street, looking for shelter from the rain. He found it under the balcony of a two story house. He shook his hands to get rid of some of the water and then proceeded to remove a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, he looked at the sky and lit his cigarette. Soon his contact would arrive, he hoped it would be before he froze to death in the cold rain. A few moments later a black car came around the corner, escorted by a military Jeep and and APC. It was Ivan's contact, General Alexander Romanov the commander of the Sjenska Armed Forces.

Ivan stepped out into the street and waved in a strange way, the small column of cars recognized the signal a soon came to a stop in front of the house. As soon as the cars stopped soldiers from the APC spread out into the surrounding area, two of them approached Ivan and searched him for weapons. This was a risky meeting and General Romanov didn't want to take any chances, betrayal was far too common in Sjenska and he didn't like that. He would change it, if the plan worked but for now he had to prepare everything for his new allies, and he did.

"Comrade Romanov.", smiled Ivan, "Please follow me, the meeting is in the house behind us."

Romanov and his men followed Ivan into the house and then down into the houses basement. Ivan opened a secret door in the basement, which apparently led to a large room. In the room were three men and a strange looking women. Ivan gestured for the General and his two bodyguards to enter and then closed the door behind them.

"Comrade General, it is a pleasure to meet you.", said one of the three men to Romanov, "My name is Mirza and I will be your contact with the Brotherhood."

"Yes sire, we suggest expanding the divisions as that. As per normal, the THEL batteries will be deployed to defend each bunker. Typically 2 per hardened bunker. The 12 Air defence divisions have finished their training and are rapid deployment divisions. Further another 36 have begun training and should be ready by the end of the year. They will also be located in hardened bunkers. And yes, 4 launchers per bunker, along with their reloads, which are in hardened units as well. That applies to all the existing divisions."

"A shell within a shell..."

"Yes sire."

"What about the Aegis systems?"

"Existing 25 systems have been upgraded to house some 128 more cells. All hardened of course. All the systems will as per normal operate a mix of SM-2ERs and ESSM, and some SM-3. More of the first two of course. So in all, they will operate 256 VLS cells, all hardened, 4 VLS cells per hardened bunker, as well as their radars. We plan to build another 24 Aegis systems over the next 1-2 years."

"How about the Legions?"

"They will continue to operate their existing medium air defence brigades, operating their 4 batteries of Pantsyr S1 batteries and 4 Patroit PAC 3 batteries. I might suggest that each time a legion goes to battle, send one of the mobile Air defense division to accompany them."

"Alright. Organise some exercises."

"Yes Sire. Also, we have begun trying to get the F-15Es to accept FAST packs, and also, getting our fighters to use CSR air-to-surface missiles."

"Good. Tests have begun?"

"Yes sire. At the Ikonium testing range."

Shadow Industries deliver MiG-31

The second batch of Mig-31's has been completed by Shadow Industries and has already been delivered to the Air Force. In total 40 new MiG-31 were produced. The factories are now beginning production of upgraded MiG-31 for Byzantium, the first order stands at 96 aircraft but it could possibly be doubled. In the meantime the USSR's Air Force will begin a gradual upgrade process on it's current MiG-31's using the Byzantium provided technology.

After Byzantium's order has been completed additional aircraft will be produced for the USSR and possibly other members of the SNC.

Shadow Industries Tank Production

After the last batch of 200 T-90 MBT's were delivered and the process was perfected and expanded the second group of T-90's has been delivered to the Army and is already being integrated into service. The second group consists of 240 tanks. This brings the total number of T-90's in service to 500 and production continues.

War!
The cold war between the Old Dominion and Shepistan finally turned hot today. Station One has received reports of massive bomber attacks by Shepistan on Old Dominion ground and navy assets. MESS assets are now steaming toward the conflict zone. The Board of Directors has stated its intention to remain neutral for the duration of the conflict.

Byzantine Aircraft Arrive
The 204th Close Air Support Squadron returned back on San Doradan soil today after six months of training in Byzantium. They brought their new Sukhoi ground attack aircraft with them. At San Dorado Skyport the Patriarch of San Dorado could be seen waiting alongside a CORDEF delegation, since apparently a number of pilots have taken a liking to Orthodoxy whilst in Byzantium.

All Quiet on the Central Frequesuan Front
Peace and quiet reign in Easter-Occidental, the CFR province where the heroic men and women of 2nd Mechanized keep the peace. Training of local troops is progressing on schedule and word from the Paragon is that the 2nd will soon be rotated out in favor of the 1st Mechanized. Rumor has it that the 1st’s job will be to expand the stability zone out into the neighboring province of Western-Occidental.

Officials of the Tanstaafl Raj today made known their intentions to buy two Standard class Guided Missile Destroyers. The buy is intended to bolster the insular Raj’s naval presence, which right now is best described as ‘minimal’.

Leaked DIFEI documents in possession of Station One seem to suggest that San Dorado’s military expenditure in the next fiscal year will focus on rockets, rockets and more rockets. Apparently the expansion of space lift capability has been made an absolute top priority by the Board, with various types of new rockets and satellites being designed right now.

Jerusalem Space Center, January 30th 2009

The capsule was mounted carefully on top of the newly modified Atlas-Sputnik rocket. With succesful orbital tests in 2008 using a capsule-shaped lead weight, it was deemed acceptable to conduct the next test with an unmanned, but fully functional Mercury starship.

All the bigwigs were gathered at the JSC this day, forgetting about the spartan quarters and muddy ground turned into mush by heavy construction equipment. The launch pad, located far away from the temporary control bunker, looked pristine enough - which is why all the TV cameras were pointed towards it.

"We are go for launch! T minus two minutes and counting!"

Launch sirens began wailing, and ground personnel hurried towards their bunkers with practiced ease. At the guest tribune, located five kilometers from the launch site, applause erupted spontaneously.

Finally, the moment came.

"Ten...nine...eight...", counted the steady voice of the Chief Launch Controller. After he reached the sacramental "Liftoff!", the rocket rose slowly from its mooring and began its ascent. The guests cheered wildly, clapping and shouting into the air.

Inside the control bunker, lots of people were biting their nails, and smoking like chimneys.

"Velocity on the line...pitch on the line...", the nervous Ascent Control technician reported on each stage of the flight. Common Carter Connoway was pacing nervously, waiting for some incredible catastrophe to happen.

"Booster separation...", pause, "...nominal. Staging..."

TV cameras were showing the Korolev Cross now, with four rocket boosters separating from the rocket body and falling to the ground. Some engineers wanted to make those reuseable by fitting them with parachutes.

"Uh...we have a problem...", came a report from the booster station.

"What's the matter?", CCC approached the console, looking at the readouts.

"Thrust is below nominal parameters...I have some vibrations in the fuel pumps..."

There was nothing they could do but watch.

Thirty seconds before planned MECO, the final stage engine gave up the ghost.

"Well, at least it didn't blow up", commented that irritating Japanistani colonel.

Connoway growled.

"How's the orbit look?", he shot a question towards the tracking station

"It will deteriorate in four hours"

"Well...we can still run some tests if we hurry up. Have it release the capsule, and let's figure out a way to power it up...fast."

Result: Mercury 1a, the first test flight of the Mercury capsule ends with partial failure. Only 10% of planned tests are conducted in orbit due to booster engine failure. Re-entry is succesful, the capsule is recovered from the Atlantic Ocean by the SSS Murderous Von Schrom.

The general took his seat at the table while his two bodyguards stood next to him. Across the table from him sat Mirza and his two companions, the women was sitting on a couch in the corner and apparently thought this was a good time to play with her gun and clean it. Mirza leaned forward and offered the General a drink, and then poured one for himself.

"Comrade General I trust that the necessary arrangements have been made, the operation must begin within a week."

"Yes, everything is ready Comrade Mirza. Most of the troops are loyal to me and will support our cause, but Karic has his own elite guard and they will be a problem."

"They will be a much smaller problem without their leader, Comrade General."

"Indeed, but how will you get close enough to do the deed. His guards are paranoid and do not allow anyone close, without checking them and he is never without them."

"We don't need to get close, we just need to bring him out into the open and Natasha will take care of the rest. Isn't that right my dear?"

The women simply nodded and continued to play with her rifle.

"I see. In that case, there shouldn't be any problems. Karic visits a brothel every Friday and that is an excellent opportunity for us to get him in the open. I will arrange for the details to be delivered to you."

"Good Comrade General, Natasha will be ready."

"And what of our support forces, in case there are unforeseen problems?"

"Do not worry my friend, the fleet will be in position within a week and the army is already on the move."

"Very well, I'll make sure my people are ready for the transition. I hope Comrade Shady appreciates my help."

"Oh he does, he appreciates you a lot. Once the annexation is complete you will continue to serve as a glorious General of the USSR."

"That is good to hear. A toast Comrade Mirza, for the motherland and the new order."

The two men raised their glasses...

90th Blackrazors F-22 Wing
Love AFB, Old Dominion

The "Blackrazors" squadron had known war was inevitable, but once the ball started rolling, even they were a bit surprised at how quickly it picked up speed.

The F-22s of the 90th Wing --a 'short wing', to be sure, made up of only two full Squadrons-- had taken to the skies as the declaration of war erupted. They'd flown in a defensive CAP, ready to swat any Shepistani birds that came to them, but despite the eager rush to war, the sides were at first very careful, almost chivalrous in avoiding other nations' fighters until the actual declaration of war came from the individual nations. Who will sit it out? Who will try to avoid escalation? was on everyone's mind.

Shepistani aircraft avoided the Blackrazors until King Arik Coyotus-I's official announcement that the Royal People's Republic of Canissia would support their MESS allies in the face of the Shepistani attack, although the Canissian forces would also endeavour to keep the conflict confined to the actual zone of discontent-- the formally recognised zones of conflict, as far as Canissia was concerned, being the Fuckland Islands, San Fuego, and the New Continent border area.

King Arik made it explicitly clear that he did not support the notion of expanding the conflict outside of those areas, and that ideally a cease-fire should be implemented so that discussion of the matter could be used to resolve the dispute. In that, King Arik joined the chorus of nations that supported the Japanistani call for a cease-fire...

With that announcement, the leashes on the dogs of war --those in the region, at least-- were loosed.

“We were aiming at the moon, we were shooting at the stars,” Brandon paused, and nodded to the two men entering the temporary office, Brandon rarely indulged in his pastime of annoying the shit out of his employees, only saving it for special occasions, which this was the most special, “But the kids were just shooting at the buses and the cars, so don’t drink the water, don’t you breath the air… Hello Senator, Deputy Minister…”

“Uh, your move sire, you called us,” responded Senator Alexander Mason, one of the major players in the Republican Revolution. Mason was known amongst the masses for his Socratic wit and his adherence to the Revolution during its tenure. Behind the doors of the Senate, Mason was known for his powerful adherence to Machiavellian principles, and the common knowledge that he saw the Revolution as the way to gain the support of the masses.

“Oh, yes. Well, pack your bags, the three of us, Ambassador Tenenbaum, after she returns from the Coiler Peninsula of course, and an Agent,” Brandon checked his notes, “Arca will be heading to Seattle for the Neutrality Conference in Cascadia.”

“The Conference is being held in Seattle?” asked Alexander Luzar, the Deputy Minister of the Army, and heir apparent for the Minister’s position once Barr retires. Luzar was a very moderate politician, only joining the Republican Party out of necessity. During the Revolution Luzar was a mid level member of the Ministerial bureaucracy, attaining his current position due to his support of the Republican Revolution. While Mason had been a powerful support, Luzar had bought his time, and when the coup forces were in the Palace, he, in his capacity as head of Palace Security, had ordered the troops to stand down, earning him a place amongst the Republican elite.

“I don’t know, but I do know that we will be spending a week in Seattle, as both a sort of calm down period so we can decide what to do rationally, and to act as a little good PR for us in Cascadua,” and to see where the greatest style of music was invented, Brandon added silently.

“Interesting idea, and it would make sense if this were happening in Frequesque,” how the fuck did Luzar pronounce that, Brandon mused, “but it makes no sense to take us away from our homes in a time of war.”

“Ah, but it does, here, I have the domestic issues weighing down my psyche, out in Seattle, it won’t have as much of an effect, I can effectively determine our future when I don’t see what we have at home. Plus the conference makes a good place to start on a round the world tour, a way for me to get to know the various operations across the globe, hopefully making some new allies, and keeping the old.”

“So, you will be leaving us, during a election?” asked the Senator.

“Obviously, this trip allows the new PM to get settled in with his way of doing things before I rush in and knock his papers around.”

“You truly are a sadistic loon, sire.”

“Just remember, this could all have been yours, if you idiots didn’t want a figure head.”

“Yes, truly, we are all sadistic loons.”

“Got that right, so, you have a week or so to prepare, oh and happy Day of Judgement.”

“::audible sigh:: Happy Day of Judgement, sire,” Mason responded.

”Yeah, happy birthday, sire,” Luzar threw in.

Brandon laughed, it was good to turn your birthday into a religious day of reckoning.

AEW&C order increased and new trainer aircraft ordered. Air to Air munitions production increased.

Reports are coming in that the Ministry of Defence has increased the AEW&C order from 4 A380AEW&C to 12. 96 AT-45D aircraft were ordered to train pilots. Along with existing expanded production of long range air to surface missiles, R-77, KS-172 and AIM-120E missile production has been increased.

An old faith was gripping the people of the Vineyards, while the monotheistic religions dominated cites, out in the country the relic of a time before Shroomainia was alive and well. “We shall send it back to the twilight,” the others shouted in unison.

“In our reverence, my brothers and sisters, we have forgotten the purpose of Azura’s star,” the head monk stated, “In fact, Azura must receive her gift back after use. So, who will make a pilgrimage to the Badlands? The Deathlands?”

“I shall take the Holy Star to the Badlands, and I shall use it,” came the shout from the crowd.

“Thank you, now, we pray for the Star’s safe return to the Twilight”

OGONEK: Military rumors flow - R-14 missile design abandoned in favour of R-36

The Comrade Stanislav Rocket Design Bureau, using the engine developments on the current space programme, proceeded to design a larger and more powerful version of the planned R-14 missile which was thought to be an R-12 successor.

The new missile code is R-36. Apparently it's creation will give the CSR "a long arm and the ability to defend against adversaries based in any part of the world", General Ryabinov, the commander of a mysterious branch of the CSR military called the "space forces", said in an interview.

The technical requirements for the missile call for a range of 15,000 km. So far no examples of such a missile exist. Apparently the technical specification for the missile was crafted somewhere in the higher circles of the CSR military. The "Space Forces" have been only recently established, but much is being said about their close relationship with Comrade President.

No real explanation has been offered by the Crimson Star President and Supreme Soviet as to how such an imprecise weapon like a ballistic missile is going to be useful for our military in possible conflicts.
