This attack was launched as part of the mutual defense pact with Byzantium.

But if the FUN upholds this idea of dealing with you, I'm pretty fine with it. :P

So a nastyish laser installation? Yeah I can see how it works against a bomber; you put enough energy onto it to burn through the aircraft outer skin and ignite the fuel tanks. I'd probably say at 60% of the range for a missile intercept, due to the inherently tougher skin etc of a bomber. I don't think the Crowbars will be able to be killed by it, I mean, the Crowbar can withstand the skin heating of Mach 3 travel at 100 feet.

EDIT: Hey wait! If it can shoot down aircraft; it can easily destroy ballistic missile RVs; which are coming in at hypersonic speeds; you just need to unbalance the RV by burning away a little piece of it; causing it to become unstable and wobble and basically tear itself to pieces

Nothing more than a bit powered-up (2008) version of a 1980s weapon.

It's a blinding weapon mostly.

Actually not. Well, at least my version can't.

A rough clue as to what is deployed. Black thingies are S-300PMU and S-400 systems. Orange are ASM Blackbeards.

Red are open airfields, black are hardened UG airfields (which you don't know about, since I constructed them in railway tonnels).

PILLBOX, I'm sure you know what that radar is capable of. In fact that's paramount to the spacial attacks and defense.

There are 3 nuclear plants and also a VX plant in the East-North.

This is from a general defense plan, but since I'm alone waging this war (so far), I'll just show what I have.

The grid is the RLS Duga type ("Russian Woodpecker").

P.S. A rough calculation. 400 kgs of cobalt exploded over a city area of 1000-2000 sq.km would result in 0,5-0,2 grams per square meter of fallout. In several hours, around 20 of your largest cities are dead (the sheltered population will be too, dead in two weeks or so). Also, rivers are contaminated, but that's a more long-term effect.

Keep in mind though, that my main force is manned bombers, with a lot of the force having excellent ground mapping radar, etc; so there is a decent chance they can find the airfields, mainly by looking for stuff flying out of it....Some tunnels might be hit anyway, as strategic targets to block off railway links in important areas.

So Shep, you had suborbital craft like the Tu-2000? :? Did you announce that you were making such? Looking up "RB-73", "suborbital", etc. doesn't yield anything... at all.

Basically this is how my bomber development was going to go (I guess it's immaterial now that nuclear war is on!)
RB-72: Original MiG-105/SPIRAL development. Retired to Museums.

RB-73: Development of RB-72 to use Nukistani Solid Rocket Boosters for orbital insertion. Six Built. Capable of delivering at least two nuclear weapons to any point on earth. Silo Based for improved protection vs open air launchers.

GB-74: Manned flyback booster stage for RB-75 based on greatly modified B-1C. Cancelled.

RB-75: Development of RB-73 for air launch from GB-74s using a chlorine trifluoride kicker engine. Suborbital only. Cancelled.

RB-76: Multirole aircraft developed from Multi-Role Heavy Naval Aircraft Program. 230,000 lb MTOW. Powered by three J100 turbojets; each providing 30,800 lbs dry and 43,400 lbs wet thrust. Combat radius of 2,500 miles; unrefuelled range of 5,600 miles. 12 x SRAMs carried internally on rotary launcher. Wing area of 3,200 square feet. Cruise speed of 2,000 MPH at 83,000 feet. Service ceiling 90,000 feet. Cancelled, due to development of turboramjets.

B-77: Multirole aircraft developed from RB-76 program. 330,000 lb MTOW. Powered by three turboramjets; each providing 40,000 lbs dry and 50,000 lbs wet thrust. Combat Radius 2,200 miles; unrefuelled range of 5,300 miles. 10 x SRAMs carried internally on rotary launcher. Wing Area of 4,500 square feet. Cruise speed of 2,700 MPH at 100,000 feet. Zoom Climb Ceiling 137,000 feet.
The B-77 wouldn't have been in service for a couple more years at the best.

Are you sure you can have a 1MT warhead there? The entire missile carried by the craft is around 1700 kg, and it's missile cargo weight is 2 tons tops I fear. Kinda unfair all in all, since you never listed the development effort or even hinted at it. ;)

I can retcon the warheads to 225 kilotons.

As for not hinting about the development effort; I just kind of assumed that it was only logical that Shepnukistan kept a SPIRAL prototype or two and the documentation from the OMSK Pact program to develop it after I went and created the UAR, since we did contribute a lot of money towards it...

Well, so that's that. PeZookia was powerless to do anything substantial, anyway. And BTW, you should've nuked me first, Shep. I was thinking about wiping out the UAR first. Surely, that's an international thoughtcrime?

So...seeing as this is agony, do we:

1) Start another such STGOD?

2) Retcon the whole thing into a TV movie or a nightmare?

or 3) Commence with a real-life year of posts like: "Day 241. The death rate keeps rising. Poisoned water and ground makes it impossible to farm. The conditions are said to be stabilizing, though - in 10 years, we may be able to start moving back into the cities."?

Flip ahead 100 years. We can let the Duchess go in and decide which countries got hit the worst and assign new industrial potentials, ranging from early 19th century (1860) to early 20th century (1905)

EDIT: Naturally, Shepnukistan and Saddamistan would be at the bottom of the scale; seeing as how they'll get hit really hard by just about everything.

I'm not really interested in playing an early XXth century postnuclear country, though.

Then reboot the STGOD and start fresh, albeit in a slightly modified time frame?

I'd be more than willing to take the job of RPing the pirates or whoever for the second time around.

What's the point of an early postnuclear country? There will be little commerce, little trade and what? We are going sell each other pitchforks?

Seriously Shep, what did you expect? You boasted about an airforce that would "win" a nuclear war, that nukes are "ordinary weapons" and the UAR can militarily annihilate any opponent.

It's easy to see how the opponent decided to center the strategy around permanent destruction of Shepnukistan and Saddamistan populations.

However, that didn't stop you, so... too bad.

Producing thousands of Scuds is not hard, they are very cheap to make and proliferate, we had some trouble with VX but then decided to make a sulphur reporcessing factory in RT and gather the crude materials needed from all around the world.
