OK lets recap, Beowulf decides that drones sent over his country take out some civilians despite the statical long-shot of this happening.

Whatever
Stas calls him on it, things deteriorate and now two country's are not talking to each other. Meanwhile the other Mess and OMSK nations sit on the sidelines, despite this origional being about Shepnukstain and the Lone Star Republic, it's now about Tian Xian and the Red Technocracy.

Hmph, stay the course people

I know I will at the very least overhaul my civil defence plans and start building fallout shelters.
As shall I. A nuclear war with Shep involved is just about the scariest thing I can come up with.

See, this is why I built five percentage points of slack in my budget.
Now I can start building fallout shelters, passing out iodine pills, and stockpiling food, water, medical supplies, fuel and other things, without totally crashing my budget.

I think i will up my spending by 5% of the economy and commission a new aircraft carrier and new ABM missile units and more fleet units. The population would be evacuated to the mountains in inner Anatolia as well if things get worse.

As for Shep having nukes.

Each nation in OMSK is more or less specialized with particular industries being more developed.

Shep knows nuclear arsenals, how to use them and what they can do best among us all, which obviously makes him the candidate #1 for the nuclear programme.

Me and Bean have enough of a drain with the space programme (Bean spends a few billion on launches of Energia yearly ALONE, not counting the 3 cosmodrome maintenance, the actual satellited construction (costs of upwards 100 million to 2-3 billion depending on complexity of a sat). I spend billions to further the space ship technologies: space planes, scramjets, etc. as well as making and selling aircraft.

Shep makes nukes and missiles. Note that back in the game, he only violated your airspace after you violated his.

Frankly, I wouldn't paint Shep as some sort of a cackling maniac who is just waiting to nuke everybody. He's a ruthless genocidal warmonger, not an insane one.

What I'm worried about are fallout clouds resulting from any possible nuclear exchange between OMSK and the MESS. This is why I'll be overhauling my civil defence, not because I'm afraid I may get hit directly.

For what it is worth, I'm not taking any special precautions. I firmly believe that war can be avoided in this case, as in the others.

I am also adding a statement to what I said in the game thread. I'll edit it in, but for those who may miss it, take this on to the end of my brief public statement.

"And to my fellow world leaders, let us remember that while this may be the 'SDNet World' it does not have to be the same as the original SDNet. Being absolutely right and proving the other wrong could come at far too high a price for it to be worth it, just to satisfy your pride. Sometimes being 'right' is not the best option."

My statement will depend on what Lonestar actually says.

But I can assure everyone that we do not want war over it. In fact, our military is not put on high alert, no CVBGs are deployed, and OMSK Space Forces Units 01 and 02, "Coelo" and "Fulmen", were not launched into space today.

I don't even know if I even have to make a statement.

All actions have been pretty much done by now, and the fallout is breakoff between me, Lone Star and Tian Xia. I'm not resuming communications with them any time soon, but everything else is just running it's course.

Unless someone actually declares war, I see no immediate war threat here.

EDIT: Regarding New Patria - Qudlivun row. It was kinda obscured but I see it leads to tensions.

Here's the problem. In this world, we can have an "arms industry" of the XX century Earth. And corresponding designs.

That means multiple nations can have a vehicle so designed as say a Tu-160. And even though I have the most Russian infrastructure of all in this new world, I can't sue other people for using it. Byzantium for example has similar weapon designs to mine.

Therefore, I find the row pointless. I'm expecting Qudlivun and New Patria to resolve these tensions.

The OMSK is a military alliance whihc will support it's member in case of war. So far I do not see any war between Qudlivun and New Patria. Therefore, I'm actually thinking Qudlivun's position is more reasonable since it reflects the way things are in this world.

There is no weapons IP so far because new weapons are not yet developed by any nation.

Let me reinforce that if those nations(New Patria and Quidvun) go to war, OMSK will be doing jack and shit. New Patria if you start a war, your on your on.

However New Patria, if your invaded(ahahhah) by Quidivun then we have your back, mostly because your in OMSK and Quidvun has to kinda invade past us with it's two cannon armed rowboats.

Seriously, this is a Dutchy VS a Principality, even without OMSK New Patria's has five times the population and a much heavier navy, so in a strait fight Quidvun would lose and lose hard.

Except... the countrys in question are over a 1,000 miles apart and that's as the crow flies, to detour around Red Technomancy territory adds another 700 miles to any trip. Avoiding all other nations adds another 400 odd miles.

Meaning the people fighting this possible war would be over 2,000 miles away from each other, and at best your talking ten or so Patrol boats vs fifteen patrol boats and a pair of Frigates. Except whoever attacks the other is going to lose being that they are far FAR out of the range of any patrol boats, and a Frigats can't exactly haul brigades of invading troops.

This war is not going to happen, at least between those two, all we are going to see is Posturing.

I concur the row is pointless and I do hope that I've expressed such, but only New Patria can resolve the issue by dropping the claim. I have no intention of engaging in shooting war over an UAV design for obvious reasons and will simply choose not to deal with the Kingdom until they do the right thing.

I'd agree. They're both basing it off existing Real Earth technology. Claiming you have IP on that is silly. That would mean the first person who had declared they had F-22s got exclusive rights to it, or the first to say they had a Nimitz CVN and so on.

If you're going to base it off existing Earth tech then you can't really claim a patent I'd think.

Well Stas, it seems OMSK has been rational during this entire dispute. I want to formally lend my support and join the OMSK pact. Is there room for one more?

All it takes is two senior members of OMSK to approve and no objects be voiced and your free to join. In this case assuming Stas, Shep or Fingolfin wanders by consider yourself welcome since you have my support.

As for the Drone Conflict, Patria really needs to lay off the rhetoric. I really hope they don't get any stupid ideas like starting a shooting war.

That's nice. I'm intent on modernizing my country. I've got plans for nuclear power, internet access outside the capital, free national healthcare, and an army that won't instantly have to resort to guerilla warfare to defend the nation.

Unfortunately, that takes time, money, and expertise I don't yet have.

I would like top point out that I already made a counter-offer, which would have been a good deal for him. I make the drones and sell them to him at 11 million a pop, verses the 16 million he would be spending to make them himself. The fact that he didn't want to save money, or respond to my offer, makes him, in my eyes, the unreasonable one. As for a shooting war, I wasn't, and am not going to start one.

Heck if he commits to a purchase of say 20 UAVs I'll offer a discount of 1 million per drone. That would save him a total of 120 million on his order compared to what he could make them for.

1) I don't recall any such offer.
2) True, my solution is more expensive but the money goes back into my own economy rather than funding a third party, especially a third party prone to outrageous claims.
3) No deal will even be considered until your publicly back off your claim of IP theft and issue a formal apology.

Okay, we have the following issues in order.

1) OMSK now has border citizen movement laws similar to the EU; trade and capital movement laws stay in effect, but people now can simply ride around without any visas. Status [complete]

2) Vedra needs to be placed on the World Map. For that I need some sort of map of your Republic, Setzer. Status [map pending]

3) OMSK Security Council expansion: As me and Bean voted to include Byzantium, a major and active nation in the the Security Council, I see it has passed and now the OMSK SC is governed by 4 instead of 3.

To have tiebreakers, unless 2 explicitly object to a measure another 2 support, we have the "weighted vote", i.e. older OMSK Members have priority in case of a tie vote.

In case no objections are raised, a vote of 2 (50%) is enough to pass a motion through the Security Council. Status [complete]

Out of curiosity, just how much would it cost to build something along the lines of a Braunschweig class corvette? I'm considering naval expansion for FY2010, and I'd like to know if the costs can be accomodated by a nation of my size; if it's somehow not economical for me to make my own ships, I may have to look around for people who have surplus ships they need to get rid of.
I ship Eino Ilmari Juutilainen x Lydia V. Litvyak.

I've seen anecdotes for the K130 unit cost to be around EUR 3-400M or so.
