Shroomania applauds Vanaheim's willingness to join the Alliance of Advanced Nuclear Research and Space (headed by Surlethe who also calls it the Technocratic Greater Co-Prosperity Alliance) in its peaceful and noble endeavor to conquer space for all humanity!

If the Grand Duchy of Vanaheim is still interested in joining the FUNGAL AXIS, it is still welcomed - hopefully with its recent actions, Shroomania has shown its intentions of mutual prosperity to be sincere. Both of our countries are equally committed to peace, as seen with both our missions to Zoria and Syndromia.

World Map 1.0.1 (sadly only mapped nations so far available) (hit Shift+Reload if the old map gets sticked in cache to renew to last version)

I'm putting locations arbitrary, so if anyone wishes to be relocated, feel free to do it. Just as I put areas arbitrary for some - those who did provide a rough area though are good. I tried to scale you down fairly precise

Also, what is the fitting format for this SDN interactive world map? I put a 800 pixel peg, and did the nations as small as I can - perhaps 1024x768 would be more fitting?

Latest news from the II Republic

Internal affairs/economy

Republic government announced today a government initiative to establish a domestic electronics industry. The initiative is a set of laws aimed at engineering students, offering research grants, low-interest loans and housing subsidies for enterprising citizens, immigration exceptions for foreign specialists, establishment of student exchange programs and creation of three government-run facilities to aid the fledgling industry:

- National Information Technology and Electronics Research Facility in Astoria

- National Electronics Factory in Minehead

and the Military Guidance Systems Development Bureau

All to be established within four years.

The newly appointed Comissioner For Industrial Development was quoted as saying: "The Republic's ongoing endeavours require a robust technology industry. If we are to become productive member of the international community, we should put to use low labor costs and a large pool of bright young individuals, who can greatly contribute to the world's space and energy development programs."

The National Amelia Shipyards have laid the keel for first four Fast Commerce Ships. These 15-thousand ton merchants will bolster PeZookia's merchant marine. The shipyards have announced that they will start accepting foreign orders shortly.

Military

PeZookian military has finished the first series of tests for the Zorian Advanced Anti-Shipping Missile. Test results were, as one military officer said, "very satisfactory".

The ZAASMs shall be used for coastal defense as part of an integrated network of air-sea defenses.

The Republic's Defence Ministry is currently seeking co-operation with other LUN member states for creation of a centrally co-ordinated defence network. The final shape of this network is still a matter for consideration.

Also, the Navy has announced signing of the conract to purchase four modified Poseidon-class Submarines from the Kingdom of Tiriola, and the training of future crews to operate these vessels.

International matters

The LUN peacekeeping force has been dispatched has been dispatched to Syndromia. Current size of the LUN's commitment to the reconstructoin effort is 15 thousand men, forming one light infantry division, one motorized brigade (II Republic) and two light brigades (Vanaheim) in total.

The II Republic proposes to co-ordinate all efforts by means of a joint forces command in the APCS, which would have the authority to command all occupation troops.

The Duchy has also re-considered it's thoughts on the matter, in light of the recent conflict over Syndromia, the nation of Shroomania's patronage of the sciences and the earlier assertion by the Shroomanian leadership of deployment of a Stonehenge-type asteroid-defence system. A vocal minority in the parliament questioned the wisdom of us attempting to order one of our own on top of the creation of the Victor radar array atop Mount Craddock. Proposals for an Excalibur-type asteroid defence system have met less resistance, so as soon as they are available for purchase.

As such, we feel that signing up with the Fungal Axis will be beneficial.

Well, you actually have stated your area, so I did a rough art. Zor's areas are more of a general upper limit for a poster category, just like the rest of it. It's actually better to have a smaller nation.

See, I have ~30 million on the territory equal of that of the USSR, and it's still half my upper territory limit! Damn, but infrastructure will get very costly pretty fast. Or leave huge swathes of land unsettled, which is bad too.

The II Republic would like to clarify that we meant to establish a central command for Syndromia Occupation Forces, and a central command to co-ordinate air-and-sea defences between LUN countries.

EDIT: I agree that our countries are sparsely populated. Damn, I'm the size of the Netherlands and only have 5 million people. There's probably huge unsettled, wild-west style areas.

His Majesty's government supports the idea of central co-ordination command for air-and-sea defenses. While the good people of the kingdom of Tiriola are against joining the occupation on Syndromia, the government expresses the desire to at least help in peacekeeping operations there to express our willingness to work alongside our allies - and as such, central command for occupation AND peacekeeping operation might be warranted.

Furthermore, His Majesty personally wishes to inquire what shall be the fate of Syndromia - will it be allowed to finally gain independence, or will it remain a vassal of the occupiers?

We propose a multi-target plan:
1) establishing territorial security of Syndromia from internal destabilizing factors
2) bringing to justice the military leadership of Syndromia which engaged in war crimes during the unwarranted agression against peaceful Zoria: crimes of agression (1) and crimes against humanity (2)
3) disarmament of Syndromia
4) establishing political stability in Syndromia with a provisional government

The Duchy agrees on both accounts. The Occupation forces should, at the very least, be in communication with each other over and possible sources of disruption to our attempts to ensure a peaceful future for the Syndromians.

As for a centralised LUN command, our previous comments remain appropriate. We would suggest to our new friend in the Fungal Axis that any Duchy military deployments on behalf of the FA will only be conducted either with the agreement of the LUN member nations or under the auspices of the LUN.

Edit: For the attention of the International Cartographic Society:
The first orbital photographs of the Duchy have been received by the newly-opened Mount Antana Radio Telescopes and amended for interpretive purposes

While the resolution this image of our south-eastern island remains poor, we cannot help but congratulate our scientists at the Observatory for their efforts in bringing these telescopes online in record time.

The Republic of Vulpesia is now offering some nice vacation spots. Come to Nova Seattlum and relax on our sandy beaches. We have 4 star hotels and good dining in the city. So if any of your other citizens are feeling a bit stressed, come to Vulpesia for a nice relaxing trip.

I am also letting "Frostwolf Inc." a company that produces high end gaming PCs along with other types of PCs have their main headquarters in Nova Seattlum and a few of their factories in Keros.

The kingdom of Tiriola humbly offers its capital, New Helsinki, as a place to establish the HQ of the LUN Defense Central Command and the LUN Council of Nations.

In other news, Tiriola opens trade routes to Syndromia's pacified areas to better help the local economy to get back on its feet. Furthermore, various civilian projects are started to weed out the cancer of militarism, jingoism and lack of education.

In yet other news, Tiriola opens several uranium mines and builds a new nuclear facility to ensure continued access relatively environment-friendly energy. We are willing to offer this relatively cheap energy to other nations as well. Furthermore, we open a new naval repair facility to be used by Tiriolan Sea Defenses and visiting vessels of allied nations.

The League of Extraordinary Gentleman Nations has decided to invite the honorable Republic of N'ton and the respected Republic of Vulpesia to join the merry band for mutual protection, economical benefits and closer relations between our respectable countries. Should the Republic of N'ton decide to join, His Majesty's government is willing to consider joining the NAFTA.

The courtesy of invitation is extended to the protectorate of the honorable Buddha, should he decide to take on the mantle of leadership under the benevolent guidance of His Majesty the King.

In other news: the Tiriolan Defense Forces have now completely separated the Royal Guard (full name being Most Honorable Knightly Order of Sven Duva) from its formal hierarchy, although the Order still only accepts members who have served in the military. The Order's strength is 300 and due to the ceremonial masks they wear during formal processions, they are often known as King's Immortals, for it is said that no one who has worn the Mask of the Guardsman shall never truly die, but his or her spirit will live on to serve the King and country.

Tiriolan Defense Forces will still maintain its volunteer nature, although if more notable foreign involvement becomes necessary, this might change.

Under the proposed legislation, all students from the following entities:

- LUN member states
- The Fungal Axis
- Syndromia
- The Red Technocracy

Should they decide to move to the II Republic and enter one of the following university courses: electronics, information technology, mathematics, physics, naval engineering, mine engineering, nuclear engineering and aerospace engineering, they shall receive basic accomodation at the government's expense, and be automatically granted limited citizen's rights.

Upon completion of the course and a two-year period of military service (unless he completed military training at his home country), such a student shall be eglible for accomodation stipends for the following six months, and be granted full citizen's rights upon receiving a diploma.

The parliament feels this legislation could trigger a sudden influx of impoverished students, especially from war-torn Syndromia. However, the King's position is that the benefits would outweigh the problems, especially if other allied countries granted similar incentives to PeZookian students, thus opening additional educational opportunities.

The Foreign Ministry therefore wishes to formally inquire about the position of other countries on this matter, before enacting or dismissing the Student Immigration Act.
