Modern era.
Continents & Islands/Archipelagos both (ie, mixed. This could also accomodate Marina's "cracking Pangea" scenario, which sounds cool).
1 month = 1 year. If we go too fast we'll quickly have all sorts of "I have t3h future tech! Pwnz0rz joo!" arguments).
Some sort of 2000's-era tech level to start with.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

I vote for a modern setting.Mr Bean wrote:A few things we need to get layed out before we go into the details of what size things are and who gets the bomb first, or similar
1. What year do we want?
The two options on the Table are 2008-2012 or 1930's
We might try a normal world, with continents and islands.2. What will this new world be like?
Some people have throw around a Pangaea type world, one super landmass with everyone squeezed in somewhere. Last time we went with islands for everyone, do we want that again or the Pangaea idea?
Doesn't matter to me, but it might be easier for timekeeping purposes to start on January 1, 2008.3. When are we starting?
Dates have been thrown around but what's the official everyone's happy with?
The old timescale works. I say let's keep it.4. Is the old time-scale ok?
For the record it's One week equals one year so every day is a roughly 26 day period. Do we want it slower? Faster? Just a change(IE One day equals three weeks which means we would have a new year every 17.3 real days)
Timescale? What amount?
Conversion Table:
2000 Mockingbirds = 2 Kilomockingbirds
Basic Unit of Laryngitis = 1 Hoarsepower
453.6 Graham Crackers = 1 Pound Cake
1 Kilogram of Falling Figs - 1 Fig Newton
Time Between Slipping on a Banana Peel and Smacking the Pavement = 1 Bananosecond
Half of a Large Intestine = 1 Semicolon

Well, I think the "cracking Pangea" is the best compromise position--it means we have two large landmasses close together with a dense archipelago between them.

Re: SDNWorld Redux:Basic Facts
I would prefer modern era, whether that be turn of the century or 2008 is irrelevant to me.Mr Bean wrote:A few things we need to get layed out before we go into the details of what size things are and who gets the bomb first, or similar

Why not do both? Have some island nations and some on a continent depending on preference. I can work with either though an island nation might work best for what I have in mind.Mr Bean wrote:2. What will this new world be like?

1 January of whatever year is decided.Mr Bean wrote:3. When are we starting?

I prefer 1 game year per 1 real life month.Mr Bean wrote:4. Is the old time-scale ok?

I also support the "cracked Pangea" world model.

modern
Give me enough volcanic glass that I can make black concrete
lots of Tar
lots of land
I want to build this time, make so much butter, that the countries with guns will be loosing population to me while I construct things that will put anchient civilizations and FDR to shame.
you know, re-direct rivers, build through mountains, build giant walls along my borders with massive commerace tunnels, tunnels to other islands, I wonder if I can build a few "Wonders of the World"?

I'll be ready to maintain continuous moderatorial duties from the point of August 21st forward, for the record, at least until the end of January.
