Germany to reinforce Pacific presence
The German aircraft carrier SMS Graf Zeppelin, escorted by the Battleship SMS Kaiserin, has been dispatched from Pola to the Pacific. It will cross the Suez channel and deposit in two runs 24 Fokker DXI and 12 Gotha IV bombers at Dar-es-Salaam. It will then return and make a final approach towards Dar-es-Salaam carrying its usual complement of 12 fighters and 12 Torpedo bombers.
Rumours claim that all those aircraft will be finally transferred to Tsingtao. The purpose of this deployment is not clear, though many speculate the aircraft will be used to reinforce the Garrison at Tsingtao. Apparently the Reichskanzler feels that with the current war going on in the east, Germany has to show a stronger presence there.
Tel Aviv
The massive armored cruiser SMS Scharnhorst steamed into the harbor of Tel Aviv. After the usual greetings and a 21 gun salute were exchanged, the German sceleton crew departed the ship for a merchant steamer that would deliver them back to Germany. In about two months, they would return to deliver the sister ship of the Scharnhorst, the SMS Gneisenau, to the Yishuw.
The Yishuw Navy had just gained their first cruiser.
Results:
- Germany sends more aircraft
- SMS Scharnhorst is delivered to the Yishuw.

Manchurian Training Camp
"This is," said Lieutenant Ricardo Thanh of the Dominion 57th, "The Magliozzi Mk1 armoured tractor. It's built in the Grand Dominion, and the GDA has 200 of them, with several hundred on order.. The Manchurians build a version locally under license. It is rated to haul artillery pieces up to 75mm...yes yes, what?"
One of the Union volunteers was raising his hand. "We're going to drive these into battle? Without combat training?"
"Drive?" The improbably named Dominionite gave an expression of exaggerated surprise. "My word no. Everyone in this group has, by process of screening, been selected for very special duties. You will be depot-level technicians and mechanics on this, this fine piece of warmaking equipment." Have to put some of you idiots where you can do minimal harm. "Your utility uniform will be the Marienburg Mechanics Mark 4 combat coverall..."
Results: Finding uses for some of the volunteers who probably shouldn't be near firearms.

MEANWHILE, at another Manchurian Training Camp
The volunteers where shuffled into a small concrete structure. Standing in the the center of the room was a solitary Dominionite Sergeant Major in full combat kit, who had a grin on his face. Most of the volunteers had learned fairly quickly that when their drill instructors smiled it was bad. When a instructor on a specific topic smiled, it was much much worse. The structure was divided into two rooms. There was a window, and the unit's DIs were in the other room smiling and waving. Right next to the Sergeant Major was a propane stove with a skillet on it.
"You!" Shouted the Sergeant Major, pointing at one of the volunteers who he had been told spoke passable English. "Grab 2 of your buddies, grab a pail, and distribute the the contents. One per recruit."
The volunteers walked over to the door(which by now had slammed shut) and hefted the pails. Gas masks. Some still had streaks of iodine on them. One of the recruits looked at masks, at the stove, at the fully kitted out Sergeant Major...one of the volunteers had been in the Union army, and while he hadn't been in a "special weapons" unti, his brother had, and he had a pretty good idea where this was going...
"Wait wait Sergeant Major please. I were in Union army, we never do..."
"Shut it!" The volunteer shut it. "The purpose of this exercise is twofold. One:" He ticked off his fingers "To grant you confidence in your Model 1916 chemical defense apparatus. And two: So you have a tiny taste of what happens if you don't keep a fucking seal."
"Sergeant Major...this ist cruel..." The Union army vet said...
"The reason why you didn't do it in your army, recruit, is because your army didn't fight some of the most ruthless sumbitches on the planet for years and years. The Reds are a close second." He turned back to the group, and held up a small medicinal bottle. "When I drop these on the skillet, you will have less than 15 secs to put your masks on. You've all been showed how, but watch me." He paused, attached his mask in what had to have been less than 5 seconds, then popped open the bottle, dropping two CS tablets onto the skillet. The chemical had been developed as a less lethal alternative to other crowd control gases by the Dominion Public Safety department. "Go."
The recruits threw their masks on, and judging by the way some were twitching, they had failed to get a proper seal, effectively bottling up the gas within their masks. The Sergeant Major walked up and down, then spoke. "Alright....
"...commence sidestraddle hops."
[OOC: No, the Dominionite gas kits do NOT look like that, I just wanted a picture for fluff.]

TO: His Excellency Reichkanzler Sänger
FROM: His Excellency Ambassador Pierre
Sir,
I am instructed by my government to present to the Imperial German government a formal treaty of mutual defence. In the opinion of France and the French people, the enmities of a half-century ago have no place in modernity, and as such we wish to strengthen the already-strong ties between France and Germany. The treaty, then, shall consist of the following:
Article I:
Whereby, if any Signatory Power comes under attack by a foreign nation, the other shall aid it with all the means at it's disposal, economic, military, and all others, conduct the war in common and make peace in agreement.
Article II:
Whereby, all Signatory Powers shall share military information and establish means of communication between their respective General Staffs, for the purpose of better enabling the Signatory Powers to fulfill their treaty obligations.
Article III:
Whereby, all Signatory Powers shall allow all other Signatory Powers to purchase military equipment at a fair and equitable price.
Conversion Table:
2000 Mockingbirds = 2 Kilomockingbirds
Basic Unit of Laryngitis = 1 Hoarsepower
453.6 Graham Crackers = 1 Pound Cake
1 Kilogram of Falling Figs - 1 Fig Newton
Time Between Slipping on a Banana Peel and Smacking the Pavement = 1 Bananosecond
Half of a Large Intestine = 1 Semicolon

Manchuria
Colonel Augusto Silva flew the first plane of his volunteer squadron in to land at the dirt airstrip that had been selected. Three more were to follow over the next several hours. The 60 volunteers had left in more planes than strictly necessary in case of a crash on the way; no need to risk wiping out the squadron's combat capability before they even reached the theater.
Silva had just flown the last leg of a grueling rely of flight from Chilitina all the way across the Pacific on chartered planes. It helped that all the passengers were also pilots. The journey had been risky and one plane had gotten lost and almost ran out of fuel after encountering a storm. The time savings were seen to be worth the rather extreme risks however; no one wanted to wait days and days on a freighter while the war got on without them. Besides, it was quite a stunt and the Chilitinean pilots wanted to set their reputation as expert fliers immediately.
The air field was busy that evening rookie Manchurian pilots had just come in after a hard day of training and were being debriefed by their instructors. Silva and his men made last minute preparations before leaving the aircraft such as straightening their uniforms and putting on cologne to appear as fresh as possible. It wouldn't do to give a bad impression by looking scruffy.
Getting up from the controls Silva said,
"All right men, we are finally here in Manchuria. I thank god for our safe arrival and pray the other three planes with our brethren arrive safely as well. I'm sure in short order we will be showing those godless communists what real men can do. Look sharp gentleman!"
As the Chilitineans exited their aircraft a Manchurian officer with a few riflemen in tow came up to the South Americans. At first he thought the transport had been a civilian plane that had idiotically landed on his field. He was in no mood for fools today and had been about to arrest the pilot. Seeing a group of men in unfamiliar uniforms depart the plane, then salute the base's flag, he slowed his pace and approached with questions rather than thoughts of immediate arrest
Still suspicious the Manchurian said,
"You men best explain yourselves quickly. Just what in the hell do you think you are doing on my airfield?"
With impeccable manners one of the men came forward and with a slight accent he said,
"I beg your pardon sir, we are airmen from Chilitina. We heard you've been having a bit of difficulty with the Bolsheviks and we're here to help you kill as many of them as possible. My name is Lieutenant Dutra and on behalf of my commander Colonel Augusto Silva, I present you this letter of introduction signed by members of the Chilitinean parliament."
Taking the letter from the Chilitinean's leather folio the Manchu officer said,
"If even half of what you say is true we'll have a use for you. We need every aviator we can get. For now though gentleman, I'm going to have to ask you to please follow me to the mess."
"But of course."
The Manchu officer knew his headaches had just gotten bigger. For now though these crazy foreigners could stay in the mess under a inconspicuous guard while he contacted headquarters to figure out what exactly to do with this latest batch of unique volunteers.
Meanwhile some of he Manchu fliers decided to see who this new group was and went into the mess hall to investigate.

Canal Authority announces Auction for Shares
In a simple press release the nascent Nicaraguan Canal Authority (NCA) today announced the terms under which shares in the project will be sold to help finance construction. With preliminary engineering reports still positive the current projection is that the canal, designed to carry ships up to 200,000 tonnes deadweight, will be ready for initial operations some time in early 1933 if financing and support are available under the current scope of work.
Bidding terms are included as an addendum to this report...

Re: SDN World 3 Story Thread I
Interlude: A Quiet Night. The Bullet.
It was a quiet night on the Soviet-Manchurian front. The guns fell silent on both sides of the border. Thousands of Russian weapons stopped shelling Manchurian forts on the Argun. The massively huge TM-8 guns rested on the railway - they were guarded by two light "anti-air" armored trains, each train was armed with four 76,2mm anti-aircraft Lender cannons and lots of Maxim guns for the same duty.
All over the front rolled the talk of massive mobilization that the Soviet Union started; soldiers encouraged each other with simple rhymes like
"White Chinese said to their soldiers - crush Bolsheviks like glass!
But they found it not so easy, the Red Army kicked their ass"
Two soldiers rested near the occupied Manchurian fortification at the crossing of Argun. This fort was filled with supplies and all captured artillery which was not so well blown up by the Manchurians was dismantled to be used in further offensives. Some light caliber guns were left to guard the place.
One of the soldiers took off his hat. A lieutenant he was - and a veteran, which was quite the rarity. Wars took heavy tolls on the lower command chain, and not many veterans of the Soviet-Polish war were still serving. The other one was a private.
- Listen up now, I won't tell the rules twice. First - the difference between you and a Manchurian shooter from a 1902 model Lee-Enfield, which can shoot quite easily on ranges up to 1800 meters, is not great. The first shot is usually milk - being successful from the first shot is nothing but tall tales of rookies. Recharging takes ten seconds. That is a chance to move at least thirty meters - that is if you're a total meatbag - for the target, which is you. You should try and lower that pause, because your target has the same time to move. The first shot at the enemy is a dream, yeah. But it's not a bad one to have. Just remember - after a miss your target will most likely sit down - and that's the best case. In the worst case he'll fall on the ground. Next - a normal slit-eye is around fifty centimeters wide. Everything that makes him run and breathe is inside his body, fifteen to twenty centimeters deep. His chest is a circle with a ten centimeter radius. You can hit it. If you do, he dies. If you don't, you roll the dice once more, and so until one of you finally finds the mark.
- And finally, the bullet, - the lieutenant took out a box of ammunition. - See this? The usual bullet, which most of our forces have, leaves the barrel and moves at 685 meters per second. But these are your new spiky bullets here - and they leave the barrel and cover 860 meters per second. I hope you understand the difference. I will teach you. I used these bullets when they first arrived in 1908. I used them in 1918 when the Poles swarmed over Ukraine and Belarus. I use them now, and I am giving you the knowledge and power to use them. One bullet can take life and give life. Serve good or evil, without distinction - it does not care who shoots and who dies. You should be the one who shoots, and your enemies should be the ones to die. Remember it.

After some deliberations within the Cascadian government and legislature, a majority from all three parties approved the long-term allocation of funds and material to the Nicaraguan Canal project. It was seen as a way for Cascadia to maintain influence in either canal through Central America.
After the announcement was made, various companies would begin preparations to bid for contracts in Mexico relating to the construction. (Not necessarily directly related to the construction, but thinks like shipping lines seeking bids to ship needed material to Nicaragua when the time came, or medical companies lining up to provide quinine and anti-malarials, etc.).
Summary:
Cascadia buys 10 shares. 20 IBPs to be allocated from Cascadian queue starting Q3 1925.

The communist scourge advances across Asia in a relentless assault on the peaceloving people of the Manchu Kingdom. They need your help!
Why should you care?
Many members of the gangster government in Moscow have a stated goal of "global revolution". Communists follow the teachings of Karl Marx who, amongst other things, preaches the complete destruction of religion, seizure of your personal property, restriction in your mobility, enslavement in "industrial armies", and the kidnapping of your children to be "educated" in state boarding schools. This is the global revolution the gangsters in Moscow would bring to you.
What can you do?

Comrades! Russian aggression must end!
The Soviet Government in Russia has blatantly instigated a landgrab against the peaceful workers of Manchuria. Manchuria has no overseas ambitions or expansionist policies. The Soviet government claims that the Manchus were mining waterways, while true, they are very careful to omit the escalating tensions and outright fabrications on behalf of themselves in the months leading up to the mining of the waterways.
Why should I care?
Social progress has made inroads over the past few decades, even in hardline reactionary states such as the Grand Dominion. For years they have used the "communist bogeyman" as a way to impede progress. The war of aggression the Soviets have embarked on threatens to undo all of that, and stall socialist advancement for decades.
What can I do?
Encourage your government and your comrades to take a strict position of neutrality. This is not your fight, it's a fight by the Soviet government, inflicted upon both Russian and Manchu workers for the sake of a few square kilometers of land. Do not let Soviet aggression ruin international socialist progress!

Free Men and Women of the world!
Vital materials are needed for the war effort in Manchuria. Skilled soldiers and workers are needed at the frontlines. Contact your local International Volunteer Army recruitment office today!

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

The Grand Airshow
Portugal is hosting 'The Grand Airshow' in a few weeks time, there will be demonstrations of new autogyros, formation flying, wingwalking, mock dogfights, balloon rides and much more. Open to all to attend tickets are on sale now. Diplomats and other military advisers may secure advanced views the day before the main show is scheduled.
*Consider this in unreal time and announced a month aao. Any nations that wish to may send members to attend.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Grand Airshow, One Day Before Opening to the Public
An announcer speaks as the first and possibly most anticipated event of the day starts, the unveiling of the Cierva C.6 in a public display. One of them takes off on what looks to be a runway cut to an impossibly short length by a line of trucks parked across it, followed by another and another until a flight of four are in the air. Once in the air the most experienced pilot flies to his mark and cuts his engine coasting down from an altitude of nearly two hundred feet un-powered. The rest of his flight preform low and slow 'bombing' runs over a target range with flower filled sacks. After this demonstration they too land, though these are powered landings, and their craft are pushed into an open hanger for viewing.
Next up was an aerial demonstration by the Fábrica F-1 air team. They start by taking off on the full length runway and then the four man team makes a diamond formation in very close order and light smoke flares after a short distance and at decent altitude they break with the lead craft pulling sharply up, the side craft breaking of in hard turns and the trailing craft diving. All craft preform barrel rolls before leveling off, pulling into a sharp stalling climb, nosing down, and in turns doing a close fly-by over the crowd. After this they land and and are pushed into another hanger for viewing and so the pilots can be interviewed.
The Sparow hawks are next and put on a four versus four dogfight using wax pellets launched from airguns.
There is then a short break before the bombers are flown.

Grand Air Show
Portugal
German-Egyptian arms builder Klarburg Techno Waffen (KTW) had established a good-sized pavillion at the Portugese airshow. Having built fully half of the Sultanate's air force the company was ready to do business abroad, and eagerly showed off its greatest creations. One of the most spectacular of its exhibits was the massive KTW V/1500 heavy bomber.
Ordered as an experimental bomber in the summer of 1917, the large four-engined V/1500 was envisaged for the purpose of bombing Sudan and South Arabia from bases in Egypt and was designed to carry five tons of crew and disposable load. Power for each aircraft was provided by four 279.5kW KTW Eagle VIIIs mounted in tandem pairs, and each V/1500 could carry 8 x 7.7mm machine-guns and 3,400kg of bombs.
Another show-stealer at the Air Show was the airship Nakir. Built and operated by the Sultanate Air Corps for search and destroy actions in remote territories, it served as a flying aircraft carrier, launching KTW Grebe biplanes from trapeze mounts. It performed several spectacular launches and retrievals at low altitude for the Portugese crowds, many of whom seemed quite impressed with the lumbering airship.
But of course KTW was not alone at the airshow. A good distance away on the other side of the airfield its principal rival Siddiqui Mechanical Industries (SMI) had built its own pavillion. After mechanics and other employees of the two competitors had gotten into scuffles the Portugese had taken to escorting groups of the Egyptians across the grounds, in the hope of cutting back on the number of fist-fights during the show. Each of the two companies had brought guards along, so as to make sure none of their products would suffer unfortunate 'accidents' due to sabotage.
The centrepiece of SMI's pavillion was their Darda'il heavy bomber. Although it did not have the range of the V/1500 it was far more affordable and more modern. Powered by two 433kW engines it had a maximum speed of 173 km/h and could climb to 5,000 feet in 10 minutes. It could carry 1,360 kg of bombs and 3 x 7.7mm machine-guns.
Another SMI product shown at the show was the Dart, a light bomber. A flight of these nimble aircraft performed mock bombing runs with torpedos and bombs against a cartboard cut-out of a warship. It would take an expert in warship recognition to realize that the torpedo bombers were in fact assaulting the silhouette of a Shepistani Federation battleship, a subtlety undoubtedly lost on most visitors. SMI announced proudly that the Air Corps had recently seen fit to place a large order with the company, "on the order of hundreds of these craft".

Air show, Portugal
After the egyptians had had their day of showing, the German airforce had been inching to get a try.
First up was the Navy, showing of their new Dornier Do-H fighters, which had been only in service for five months, but had already replaced all former carrier planes. There were two versions, one carrier version and one seaplane fighter version. All in all, the Do-H could achieve 261 km/h with a 350 km range. Sadly, the new torpedo bomber was not showcased and the Navy retired to let the Luftwaffe claim the day.
First came the newest development of the Gotha Bomber, the Gotha G XI.
It carried a crew of 3, had a maximum speed of 135 mph, an endurance of 8 hours, a range of 800 kmh and carried 2000lbs of bombs. It was armed with three machine guns and has a sercive ceiling of 26000 feet.
It was escorted by the first of the two newest fighters of the Luftwaffe. First were the Fokker D.XIII
The sign of a fully-equipped Jagdstaffel was magnificent, as were the specifications of it. Maximum speed: 270 km/h (170 mph), Range: 600 km (380 miles). Service ceiling: 8,000 m (26,250 ft).
Already it had been used to break several world records - the airspeed record for carrying a 500 kg/1,102 lb payload (165.7 mph), the record for carrying the same payload over a distance of 200 km (164.7 mph) and at the same time setting the same records for carrying a 250 kg payload. It was the newest version of the trusted D.XI fighter currently employed to great effect over Manchuria. Link to drawing
(OOC: Do not be alarmed by the copyright - the Bundesarchiv has allowed its image to be used).
But that was not all. The final surprise came with the newest German fighter - the Fokker D.XIV.
Link to drawing
The specifications were withheld, but tests pilots commented very favorably on its performance as a gun platform and its maneuverability. To the astonishment of the crowd, famed German pilot Ernst Udet used this plane to great effect and even managed to achieve a top speed of 274 km/h in it.
All in all, the Luftwaffe retired after announcing that Germany had already procured an equal number of D. XIII and D. XIV.

Berlin, Stadtschloss
The residence of His Imperial and Royal Majesty Wilhelm the Second, by the Grace of God, German Emperor and King of Prussia, Reichsverweser Of Austria and Hungary, Margrave of Brandenburg, Burgrave of Nuremberg, Count of Hohenzollern, Duke of Silesia and of the County of Glatz, Grand Duke of the Lower Rhine and of Posen, Duke of Saxony, of Angria, of Westphalia, of Pomerania and of Lunenburg, Duke of Schleswig, of Holstein and of Crossen, Duke of Magdeburg, of Bremen, of Guelderland and of Jülich, Cleves and Berg, Duke of the Wends and the Kashubians, of Lauenburg and of Mecklenburg, Landgrave of Hesse and in Thuringia, Margrave of Upper and Lower Lusatia, Prince of Orange, of Rugen, of East Friesland, of Paderborn and of Pyrmont, Prince of Halberstadt, of Münster, of Minden, of Osnabrück, of Hildesheim, of Verden, of Kammin, of Fulda, of Nassau and of Moers, Princely Count of Henneberg, Count of the Mark, of Ravensberg, of Hohenstein, of Tecklenburg and of Lingen, Count of Mansfeld, of Sigmaringen and of Veringen, Lord of Frankfurt, was the center of the german aristocracy.
Many a career had been made and ended here and not even the Chancellor was immune from the wrath of the Emperor. And, as Sänger found out while standing only three feet from his emperor, the Chancellor was not immune from the Spittle flowing of the Emperor's mouth.
"You propose what? A treaty with the French? Mein Urahn Friedrich würde sich im Grabe umdrehen. How dare you?" This went on for a few more minutes, while Sänger did what he usually did in such a circumstance. Nod devotedly and wait for the monarch to overexert himself, which as usually happened after a few more minutes of screaming, during which Wilhelm whacked the map Sänger had prepared a few more times with his sabre.
Finally, the Kaiser's wrath abated and he sat down in his throne, leaving Sänger to take a look around. Across the Room were situated the most important members of the Thronrat -besides Sänger himself the Minister of war Paul von Hindenburg, the commander of the Navy Großadmiral Scheer and the Vorsteher des Auswärtigen Amtes, Gustav Stresemann, who had returned from the Freedom Conference.
"Well, what have you got to say for yourself?" Wilhelm asked while reaching for a glass of water.
Sänger steadied himself. "Your majesty. I feel there are larger threats to the empire than the french. We have a well-fortified border with them. Their president is a good man and I trust him." Hindenburg scoffed. "Presidents can change - and so can the Reichskanzler position".
Sänger stood his ground. "I do trust him and I trust this alliance will be most profitable. Field Marshal and Grand Admiral, I can promise you that neither one of your services will suffer from it. Indeed, I think by this alliance Germany will gain much and loose nothing." "I would like to hear more.", Reinhard Scheer interjected before Wilhelm could start another tirade. Scheer was the one who Wilhelm listened to the most besides the Kanzler, which is why he stopped and merely nodded. Sänger started once more. "Your majesty, I have never failed you before. I ask you to trust me now. By this treaty we will....."
After Sänger finished outlining the treaty Dupont and his people had drawn up and the modifications he had proposed as well as the benefits of that plan, Wilhelms rage had abated a bit. Finally, after looking at the map for a few more minutes, he nodded. "You have my assent. But it will be on you and your head only. I will make it clear this was your idea and that if the treaty fails, you alone will face the consequences." Sänger nodded. "Eure Kaiserliche Majestät sind sehr gnädig." Wilhelm just glowered at him. "I had prepared to offer you the order of the Black Eagle. I will now withdraw that offer until I get results."
After a few more stern words, Sänger left the Reichskanzlei, having just hedged his personal future and his entire political capital on the new treaty. The second morning a telegram was delivered to the French Embassy, saying that Germany would sign the treaty with the following modification:
Article II:
Whereby, all Signatory Powers shall share military information and establish means of communication between their respective General Staffs, for the purpose of better enabling the Signatory Powers to fulfill their treaty obligations. No such information gained may be passed on to any other power without the consent of the Signatory Powers.
Results:
- Sänger bets his political life on the treaty
- Germany will sign it with the proposed modification

Tel Aviv harbour, late May/early June 1925
The salute guns onboard RN Cristoforo Colombo greeted the new Yishuv flag flying over the fortifications. Sails were furled and the anchor dropped while the field guns responded to the greeting.
The ship’s commander turned to his visitor standing at the back wall of the bridge. “Giulio, I envy you – being transferred to Jerusalem would be dream posting for me.”
“Andrea, the tradeoffs are lots of consultations, meetings, haggling and making deals – I’ll have to be happy if I can smell the Sea once a month, probably. But you will visit Jerusalem anyway with the other officers; you can play tourist while I have to work - a Colonel Shaham will meet me here and introduce me to the persons concerned with the… proposal.” He hesitated, remembering that not everything should be said in public. He trusted Andrea Visconti, Capitano di Vascello (for now, Giulio Rota knew that a promotion to Ammiraglio di Divisione [Rear Admiral] was scheduled after Cristoforo Colombo returned to Livorno), but not everybody within earshot should know every part of his duties.
Portugal, before the first day of the Air Exhibition.
Five ships sailed into the Tagus, steaming slowly towards Lisboa. The lead ship was the new carrier Aquila, followed by the battlecruiser Lepanto and the two heavy cruisers Sangro and Tevere. These vessels formed the training squadron as three of them had been commissioned recently and were on their first longer cruise. The fifth vessel was the replenishment ship Al Dente, carrying fuel, aviation gas as well as food and stores. After exercising in the Mediterranean, the squadron passed Gibraltar and put into Lisboa on a courtesy visit. The carrier crew was happy that the bridge lifting mechanism had worked well this time - having only a part of the bridge showing would have been utterly disgraceful.
The whole carrier air group, three squadrons of Flycatcher-fighters and three of Dart-torpedobombers, were cruising over the ships as they came closer to the city.
Fairey Flycatcher, my standard fighter
Blackburn Dart, my current standard bomber
A squadron of Portuguese fighters kept a watchful eye on the Tuscan aircraft, despite having already made sure that the bombers were carrying no ordnance. The pilots understood, they would have felt the same way about a similar number of aircraft flying towards Florence.
Within the hangar, crewmen were polishing another aircraft to let it shine tomorrow at the start of the exhibition. After all, a prototype wasn't revealed to the world everyday, wasn't it ?

Air Show, Portugal
Captain Renato Montefiore watched with great satisfaction as the various aircraft were displayed and did their aerial acroibatics and parades. He was getting a good look at a number of wonderful designs, and was making a list of recommendations for the Yishuv to consider purchasing.
The gyrocopters, his raison d'etre in Portugal, had initially offended his sense of what ought to be in the air. The spindly blades replacing good, sturdy wings had him awash with misgivings at first, until he'd seen the flight characteristics displayed and wrapped his mind around how they generated lift. Glide properties had been replaced with something called "auto-rotation", which fascinated him. He had flown one, finally, and found it enjoyable if slow.
Captain Montefiore considered all the possibilites offered by the autogyro. It's low stall speed would seem to make it a better observation and artillery spotter platform than a standard airplane, and it might even make a decent ground-attack machine. It's short take-off space was a plus as well.
Captain Montefiore was also impressed by another attendee at the evaluations, a Professor Henrich Focke, of Germany, who had established a good working relationship with Juan de la Cierva.
"I tell you," Montefiore said one day during a break in activities, "The future belongs to the all-metal monoplane. Sure, the lift, the engines, the weight, but everyone who knows aviation knows that the time is near to draw the curtains on the classic biplane." De la Cierva and Focke had agreed, they'd discussed it at length and knew that a great many innovations and experiments in the aviation world were just around the corner.
Montefiore took a long long at the many tri-motor designs available at the show. The Ford Trimotor, stil in development stage, had been a show-stealer, as had the Junkers G.24 and G.31. The models were in prototype stages, but were going to see production as early as 1926 for sure. They'd be following in the wake of the already-established Fokker F.VII, a high-wing monoplane with three engines. Montefiore was sure to put purchase of the Fokker on his list of recommendations back home.
He also knew that the Yishuv Air Ministry was interested in the Fairey Flycatcher, but Montefiore was impressed with the German design on display, the Dornier Do H Falke. It seemed more robust, to him, and could also be converted to float plane and torpedo operations, something he felt was important if the Yishuv was to exert any influence worth mentioning in the Mediterranean or the Red Seas.
Another thing that Montefiore wanted to see was an expansion in air capability. The Fokker Trimotor seemed to be a promising military transport aircraft, something that would be needed in the future. He wa salso impressed by the concept of 'Naval Aviation', but he knew the Yishuv would be a long way from developing anything of the sort-- although he'd hoped, at least, to put reconaissance floatplanes on ships that could be recovered by hoists, or even a whole ship dedicated to just that.
He continued to make his rounds, and write down his recommendations. He couldn't wait to present them to the Council at Tel-Aviv...

"What the German people need is an outrage!" the manic voice on the radio said, "Too long we have suffered the depravities of the people of lesser mind... the immoral, the degenerates, the drunkards in our midst that tempt our spirit into the dead-end of lies and falsehood..."
Colonel Ariel "Arik" Shaham found the new radio show, "Reich Radio", to be full of pompous, bombastic insanity. Yet it was with a perverse fascination that he occassionally listened in, amazed at the bizarre and twisted visions of the far-rightists and fascist-volkisch movement in parts of Europe. It was not seen as a German, Austrian, Italian thing, or belonging to any one country-- rather, it was seen as a movement of hate that existed in dark corners throughout the world.
Many in the Yishuv followed the meanderings of the currently rising star of the movement, the one known as Hitler. The disaffected veteran had written a horribly convoluted book that was part biography and part fantasy while serving a brief stint in jail for some misdemeanor, the Mein Kampf book that had been published recently. Most people Arik knew found him to be such a wild, bizarre figure that they found him laughable-- many even liked that idea that the little Austrian corporal was the face of the hard-right, because he was such a rediculous caricature.
But Arik wasn't entirely comforted. Imagine this little hyena with actual power, he wondered.
"The Aryan people, the true inheritors of the Greco-Roman glory, have a destiny in the East... vast lands inhabited by mongrels of the lowest order; mongrel-men of Communists, Jewish Bolsheviks, and Slavic degenerates. They are at best poor caretakers of the land that is rightfully ours! Where is the outrage?" he screamed into the radio microphone. Arik could almost see the spittle flying from the man's face in his mind's eye. "I will tell you where the outrage is... buried deep inside the beating heart of every living man, every man of blood and soil, buried under layers of civility and proper manners... there beats the heart of a lion! An outraged lion! We should, all of us, every one, be out there, joining the fight against Communism, the abortionists and bankers that want only to steal, steal, steal..."
Arik shook his head, frowning, and leaned over to turn the radion dial. He'd heard more than enough.
"...we should all volunteer, great Freikorps to fight on the side of the Dominion; or like Baron Ungern von St--*" Arik turned the dial to some BBC News, where he could hear about the troop movements in the Far East War, the increased danger of traveling in the Sea of Shepistan, and the rumors of Japanese and Cascadian movements in the Pacific.
I hope we don't have anything crazy happen while Trotsky is in town... he thought, worried about the Yishuv-- and his son.

Ashekelon Dockyards
The docks were a sea of Red Banners. Signs in Hebrew, Arabic, English, French, German, Dutch, and of course, Russian all proclaimed international socialist brotherhood and common cause in the fight against the "old guard" forces of corruption and imperialism.
"This is even better than I thought it would be," Natasha Solomonova Levitina said, her face flushed with emotion as the small ship approached. It was a Russian passenger liner meant, originally, for Black Sea and Mediterranean forays; not the big liners meant for true cross-oceanic travel but a humbler vessel.
"This day would not happen were it not for you, 'Tasha," Yaakov Andreyvitch Rubenstein said, hugging her. "Here he is!" The crowd surged, the excitement palpable in the air. It was true-- Leon Trotsky himself was coming down th eramp form the small liner, and stepping foot on the docks.
Yaakov Rubenstein, Natasha Levitina and Faisal ibn-Mustafa al-Sayyedi were there to meet him. Natasha straightened and held out her hand, not realizing how she was trembling.
"Comrade Commissar," she said boldly, "We, the workers and artists of the Ashkelon people's collective, welcome you!"
Trotsky looked at her, an unreadable twitch went across his face-- amusement? Annoyance? --he looked at her and her outstretched hand, and began to laugh. He took her hand as if to shake it, and use the opportunity to pull her close where he gave her two kisses, one on each cheek.
"Comrade Commissar Levitina, I thank you!" he said, "And you must be Comrade Chairman Rubenstein, and Comrade al-Sayyedi of the Arab Worker's Collective!" he said cheerfully. "I had no idea what to expect; this, however, is beyond my expectations! The Revolution is truly international!" The criwd was cheering and calling, and the Internationale was sung, the tune recognizeable despite the multitude of langauges used. Trotsky was shaking hands and clapping workers on the back, as the throng of people made their way to the city center.
As the crowd moved, the enthusiansm picked up steam, and the three Yishuv organizers, and Trotsky himself, soon found themselves being carried onto the shoulders of their comrades to the city plaza. There, they were set back down, and Trotsky went to the top of the steps of the hotel he was to stay at, the three local party organizers stood at his side. A bullhorn was produced, which he took with some bemusement.
"I assure you, Comrade Commissar, that the rally tomorrow will have electrical speakers," Natasha whispered to him .
"Friends, Comrades, workers of the great International," he said, and hesitated a sgreat cheers rocked the plaza. A few scattered groups began a ragged singing of the Internationale but they got hushed by their eager-to-hear neighbors. "We have much to talk about, Comrades," Trotsky said, "When I began preparations for my journey, the only struggle facing us was the eternal revolution of the worker for rights, for decency, for dignity..." --cheers went up-- "...but since, the clouds of war have darkened our struggle. In the Far East we face open opposition from imperialist forces, counterrevolutionary forces..." --a chorus of boos-- "...you are not alone out here. You are part of the struggle! And we will meet tomorrow, I promise, and we will forge a new chapter in the international revolution..!
The cheers that went up, Natasha swore, made the buildings around them tremble, but it was only the tears of rapture in her eyes distorting her vision.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

High above the Ashkelon Dockyards
Yishuv Autonomous region
The airship hung high above the dockyards, far too high to hear what the communist celebrity had to say to the packed crowds far below, but then that was not its purpose. On the observation deck officers of the Mukhabarat secret police were diligently watching the throng of people through their binoculars, scribbling notes as they identified faces of known communist agitators and other notables, and their movement through the crowd.
And of course none of the secret police agents needed to know what was being said below either. There were plenty Mukhabarat operatives among the crowds, wearing red banners and worker's hats just like any other communist. None of what Comrade Trotsky said was likely to escape the ears of the omnipresent overwatch.
Few among the ranks of the Sultan's secret police considered the communists of Ashkelon truly a problem: they were a Yishuv nuisance first and foremost, and the products their factories generated were worth more than the bother it was to monitor them for subversive activities. Now, however, with the arrival of a true communist notable from the USSR itself, and at a time of war no less, the Mukhabarat had nonetheless decided it was well worth it to pay close attention to the goings-on. Just about the last thing the Sultanate needed at this time was communist unrest within what it still considered its own teritories...

Afghani Army to Hold Weapon Trials, Foreign Observers Invited
In a surprise press release today, Sub-Minister for Defence Al-Ludd announced that the Army for the Defence of the People's Republic (ADPR) would be holding weapons trials at the beginning of next month, citing concerns about the effectiveness of the nation's aging armaments and several promising new developments by the Kabul Arms Concern. 'Foreign observers', he said, 'are more than welcome to both attend and to express interest in the purchase of these new developments or the sale of extant weapons to the People's Republic.'
We contacted the public affairs officer of the Kabul Arms Concern, who then said the following. 'We have about a dozen new designs we want to trial in the field, and the Soviet-Manchurian war is the perfect time to do just that. We're especially proud of our new machine gun platform and battle rifle project - they're just great. Really. You can quote me on that. Write that down.'
The trials are expected to be held at Ohm's Military Airfield. Foreign observers are advised to bring ear protection for the machine gun trials. Cameras will be confiscated on sight and returned after the demonstrations. We also suggest that they stay in the fabulous, five-star Imperial Hotel - a little taste of Britain, right here in Kabul!

Manchuria establishes "International Volunteer Army" as separate command, places Dominionite general in charge
Even as the House of Burgesses debates plans to fund a Dominionite volunteer force of 150,000 in Manchuria, the Manchu Kingdom has placed the head of Dominionite volunteers in Manchuria, General Kyle Sanders, in overall command of the International Volunteer Army, which currently encompasses all foreign volunteers in Manchuria other than the Chinese. The Schismatic declaration of a policy of interdiction against "all communist bandits" has led some to speculate that the Shepistani Federation may attempt to deploy an Expeditionary Army to Manchuria; if so it's unknown what the chain of command would be in that situation.
In an attempt to control the flow of untrained personnel to Manchuria, volunteers from certain nations are arriving in the Grand Dominion for training and integration before sailing as IVA units, rather than head directly to the Manchu Kingdom, which is facing considerable strain as it attempts to push back the communist onslaught...[More]

Diplomatic Note to Germany
Honorable Sirs,
It has come to my attention that Germany has been selling armaments to socialist nations in South America. Chilitina finds this alarming for several reasons. Firstly, these nations like Brazil and the PBC do not share common values with Germany and why Germany would sell to them, as well as ardent anti communists such as Chilitina, is puzzling. Second, Chilitina views Brazil especially as a great threat to regional and world peace and selling arms to them is very unhelpful to say the least. Thirdly, if Germany continues to sell arms to socialist nations I believe there will be a backlash in Chilitina that would threaten our productive naval relationship. In light of these factors, Chilitina would like to request that Germany refrain from selling arms to Socialist and Communist nations in the future after all current deals from this fiscal year are concluded.
Respectfully,
Prime Minister Morales, Chilitina.

Imperial Chronicles
Byzantine companies did not participate in the recent air fair, choosing instead to keep their newest creations secret. The Emperor had spent considerable solidi, allowing the two main aeronautical companies, Byzantine Aeronautics, and Icarus Flying Company, to develop new prototypes to replace aging aircraft. The two companies were partly owned by the state, the rest either privately owned, or listed on the Constantinople Stock Exchange. A new pursuit fighter, fighter bomber, and heavy bomber, and their naval counterparts, had entered prototype stage, and are currently in testing. The Emperor stated that he would award a huge contract to both companies to produce the required aircraft to allow Byzantium to catch up with its rivals.
=====
Meanwhile, over at the Constantine Tank Factory, Byzantine Heavy Industries was working on the next generation of tanks. Emphasizing a balance of mobility and armor and firepower, new tank guns were being tested, such as a 45mm tank gun, as well as new machine guns to be mounted on the tanks. Various prototypes were tested, in hopes that in a few years time, the new tanks would be reliable enough to be put to the field.

Unreal Time
Post Freedom Conference
Roman Ungern von Sternberg was summoned before a tribunal made up of the general staff and Khan Angarag.
The Khan started the tribunal.
"Roman, we have already looked at the evidence amassed against you and, honestly, there is no defense you can mount against this. You have dishonored your uniform and your country and you are lucky that the damage you've done is as minor as it was and that we were able to issue apologies quickly enough to mend any wounds. However, because of your officer status and due to the upcoming conflict between the USSR and Manchuria, we cannot afford to lose an officer at this time. Due to this, we are hereby demoting you to Liutenant and placing you into a cavalry reserve unit. Further, due to your family's wealth, we are hereby also garnishing half your salary. Dismissed."
Roman was furious, but knew there was little he could do against the Khan, at least for now. But, he could start on that book of his, now...

The Hague, International Socialism Conference
The Mongolian delegation from the Mongolian Marxist Party was composed mainly of younger men, as the two men who were going to lead the delegation were called to their posts, as General Sukhbaatar and Colonel Choibalsan. Because they were without their leaders, they were very timid and waited until things got underway before they would dare to speak.

"That sounds dangerously close to an ultimatum mr De la Vega. The fact of the matter is that even if the republic was willing to take it's word lightly, which we would not even if we gave it to the devil itself, we don't take in the least well to ultimatums. Particularly when given by people that are aggressively anticommunist with Cisplatina between them and the communists. This being the case we shall stick to our non aggression pact with Brazil. As already said we wouldn't mind signing a non aggression pact with Argentina as well. And that's about the size of it."Raj Ahten wrote:"Chilitina does not wish to harm the Brazilian populace, a populace which is practically enslaved by a small clique of communist elites. Starving the masses of Brazil would do nothing lessen the threat of communist aggression, in fact it would likely make the Reds more desperate. Such side conversations, alas, take us away from the facts. Spain is willing to confront communists. You think they are your friends. Unless Cisplatina is willing to change its stance on Brazil, you can expect no support whatsoever from Chilitina over Uruguay. These are the facts. Once you accept them we can continue this conversation. If you don't I'll bid you ado."Lascaris wrote: "The last one to sprout that argument was the pope claiming any promises made to schismatics and infidels were of no consequence. As a catholic I'm certain you know all too well how much or a success this was for the catholic church. [1] We keep our word when we give it no matter to whom we give it.
As to the rest of your argument, the Soviets actions in Manchuria are no different than the Tsarist actions in Manchuria back in 1904. If anything they are an exact copy of them. I also note that for all your anti-communism Brazil according to our intelligence remains one of the prime customers of Argentine beef and grain. [2] Would you care to elaborate how your export of ardent anticommunism ties to the volume of trade you have with them?
