I like the shape of the southern continent but question how we're going to fill it. San Dorado can sit on the peninsula sticking out of Omnian territory.

Skywalker's on the western coast. The rest can be filled with any late-coming PCs, NPCs, ex-colonies, and I was thinking the northern part would be formed of ex-Omnian countries (including the "homeland" of our Abrahamic faiths, if that's aacceptable).

Steve, Ostrheinland is not coloured properly and is missing an Island chain to the left.

Well, Viti Levu is actually larger than the island of Hawai'i, but for the most part you are correct. I'd very much like to keep the islands the same even if the distances and relative locations change.

Steve wrote:The purple is Umeria, which Simon said would be "India-sized", although I may need to deepen it to accommodate his "hinterland" idea. He made it pretty clear he needs it at around that size though.
India is a nation with roughly the land area it would take to have about 450 million people, at roughly the per capita GDP of Brazil, (a bit better than China's but not vastly so), at the same population density as China. That gives a total GDP in line with Steve's guidelines; everything else was calculated backwards from that figure and the kind of country I want.

Making it bigger than India would be appropriate- the hinterland is not necessarily vast, but it was sparsely populated until pre-industrial times, and exists mainly so Umeria has a place it's worthwhile to plunk down labor camps for resource exploitation. The labor camp conditions are actually not bad, it's just their way of making a prison system work on a relatively limited budget.

Doing some quick math it looks like my nation would be nicely realistic at any of the starting GDP levels, with the lowest level just making it into a Spain or Greece like state thrashing to stay above water and relevant.

Yeah, sorry, forgot to recolor Ostrheinland. It's supposed to have an island chain to the west though? What kind? Just small ones I can represent with a couple of pixels or somewhat larger islands?

Yeah, just small ones. 3 dots, in a sort of string bent to the left of the map One should be large enoug to support a city.

And a tiny one in the middle between Rheinland and San Dorado (air bridge reasons from history).

I think I'll also have to revise my pop numbers but am unsure how to fit that into the storylines I have planned. For now though they are a bit too low, especially with regards to Britons.

With regards to the earlier mentioned two island chains I'd like to possess, I'd like one (Tierra Lebadeia) to be located north-north-east of the San Dorado peninsula (some ways toward the island chain between Rheinland and San Dorado that Thanas already mentioned). The other (Islas Tyche Agathe) would be slightly farther oceanward (north-west).

The names so far are preliminary and subject to change. This is purely about their location.

I attached a new version of the map to this post. I added the islands requested, added in what I think was Skywalker's desired claim, and put in an idea for the southwest continent (if anyone wants to add to it or change a part of the shape for their country, let me know).

Steve, I think you mis-coloured Rheinland islands with UOCSR colours.

Also, the Ostrheinland Islands should be almost paralel to the main landmass of the Rheinland/Kangaria/UOCSR continent, just look at the map I had posted.

Where? Ostrheinland is marked with the red you picked, the same with the middle sea island for your air bridge to San Dorado.

I missed that, I put them in the new copy.

Roughly what latitude is the south coast of my continent at? Should I be picturing something more like the southern coast of Australia (Roaring Forties) or more like the northern coast of Canada (arctic and icebound)?

Have you decided where my country is going to go yet? And what about that idea for an NPC I suggested?

Edit: I'm talking to Steve, in case that wasn't clear.

Hm.

I think the gray bubble on Australis* is too big to have been a single coherent empire for any real length of time- maybe something briefly united by conquest like the Mongols, but not for centuries at a time.

That's probably a good thing.

The gray is temporary, more countries will go in over time, after we have all the PCs set.

RR, you wanted the ex-colonial island, right? Where did you want the island located?

Actually, this reminds me that Isla Aurum needs placing too. I need a location for both.

I want an island or small group of islands somewhere tropical for the ex-colony NPC. Other than it being tropical and somewhere that won't get invaded immediately, I don't care where it is.

I wish for the map to show that Granadia has at least two small enclaves at the north of the Southern Continent, to represent the Ceuta and Melilla analogues.

Could we get rid of Turky/Syria etc on that map? Looks really unnatural.

I can change it, but I do want some kind of landmass there.

Although... maybe it's just me, but how is it unnatural? It looks to me like a large, curved peninsula.

It looks pretty bad to me, considering that there are no natural fault lines and how it looks like somebody had just chopped turkey in there. I find it jarring.

Turkey itself looks fine. It's the little pieces of Iran, Georgia, and Azerbaijan that weren't properly trimmed that make the whole thing look unnatural.
