Things to consider about corvettes, also, is that they are very hand politically. You can show up in a region and fly your flag without getting in everyone's face. A corvette says "I'm paying attention to things in this system" in a cheap and inoffensive way. If things go poorly, you can bring in a Frigate... then a Cruiser... and finally a Star Destroyer.

For the money/points spent on a Star Destroyer, you can buy several corvettes-- which means you can be a presence in several systems at once withut being overbearing (potentially starting feelings of resentment). A US Navy patrol ship, with a crew of 12, making a stopover in a foreign port is one thing, having a Nimitz-class carrier take up residence in your port in something else.

OK, I'm playing catch-up here, and it looks like we lost our Bothans before any treaties could be sealed & delivered. That's whay these early meet & greet posts can be so haphazard; one never really knows how committed another player is until a few posts have gone by... so I'll have an envoy stay there but I won't give myself a trade arrangement with them until I hear back for sure.

That's....quite a lovely sentiment, considering that a lot of people have not given any indication of having finished their OOB.
On this note, I sent a draft to the other mods for a finalized ship list, eliminating some fanon designs and organizing the fighters into the Standard/Advanced/Experimental categories. Hopefully we can have a working copy ready by Wednesday, and then give until Sunday to finalize/check out OOBs. Then we can start the game, on the timescale probably stolen from the SB version. Either that or we translate a "Galactic Standard" time that is the official game clock. Or whatever. Either way, hopefully it'll be ready by Sunday. :)

Just note though that some things are likely to be determined by mod fiat in order to get this game going. Whether for virtue of simplicity, gameplay balance, or whatever other reason, you're just gonna have to live with it (and so will we, for that matter).

So let's not get bogged down into arguments and flamewars before the game even gets off the ground, please?

I've also finished tweaking my OOB, so that too is ready for approval (or summary dismissal, but I'm hopeful :)).

My OOB needs a fair bit of work, but nothing I can't finish over the next couple of days.

I've really really fallen far behind, and I have been meaning to catch up but I have been easily distracted, sorry. (I'm still on page 1)

Actually, the cost of a corvette is quite expensive compared to the fact that a Venator cost mere 10 points versus 2 points and a Venator can do hell a lot more things than a mere corvette, like destroying 5,6... etc. corvettes in one go and not even fucking sweat it. Star Wars happens to be one of those series where size does matter, and matters a lot.

Quick note, in this Fingolfin is pretty correct. Anything under a cruiser can't mount the Heavy turbolasers you need to tear up a Star-Destroyer. Star Destroyer's need a full minute to batter down the shields them themselves have. A Star-Destroyer on Star-Destroyer fight in EU is rare but it's happen once or twice and it's been a several minute long slugging match both times it occurred.

Could we just.. list down the list of states we wish to have treaties with and so forth? It's tiring and monotonous to cut and paste the same damn thing again and again.

I support this plan. Largely for selfish reasons - Namely, I don't have the time right now to write lots of identical diplomacy posts - but still.
Conversion Table:

2000 Mockingbirds = 2 Kilomockingbirds
Basic Unit of Laryngitis = 1 Hoarsepower
453.6 Graham Crackers = 1 Pound Cake
1 Kilogram of Falling Figs - 1 Fig Newton
Time Between Slipping on a Banana Peel and Smacking the Pavement = 1 Bananosecond
Half of a Large Intestine = 1 Semicolon

What Coyote said.

I need to add a few details to my OOB, but point wise I think it's done. I suggest we get moving with the game, as soon as possible.

How hard would it be to get into this now? I have an idea for a faction I'd like to try, but just noticed this subforum today.

Not that hard, just design yourself an OOB and we're good to go.

However, note that the following NPC factions are already designed or are in the process of forming:
- The Yevetha (Koornacht Cluster)
- The Hutts (Nal Hutta, Nar Shadda, Varl, Rodia, Sevarcos II, Chalcedon, Deysum III, Kadavo, Orvax IV, Zygerria, Nar Hekka, Nar Kreeta, Nyrvona, Sleheyron)
- The Mon Cal (Dac, Ruisto, Krinemonen III, Mantan)
- The Hapans (Hapes Cluster)
- The chiss

So you might want to stear away from them...or PM me what planets you'd like from them and we can work it out.

Also:

Please read this and this thread.

Well my OOB is final, stamp and all on that. Traded in a few more things to pick up a few more Star-Destroyers and Frigates which my original OOB ignored. Threw in some Lancers for kicks and 1986 is my Fleet total.

Right, then. I'd like an exchange of ambassadors and trade pacts with all Imperial factions and with the Concordat.

OOB revision has started right now.

Meanwhile, I would like to offer trade pacts to Darthkommandant and Karmic Knight.
