Yes, that's Grand Junction, formerly Prajuk's Horizon. Since it's still very close to Prime Refuge (the one in the middle) there will be a lot of (internal) back and forth transport between the two. I will get my wiki page up with a map and OoC spoiler info and stuff by sometime tonight. Bear with me, everyone, as I'm a bit overwhelmed and it's been a long while since I did wiki editing stuff.

It's a shame I'm not closer to that action; there are definitely elements in the Union that'd be less than pleased to see extragalactic aliens squatting on "sovereign human worlds." Then again, such protests are bound to get me mauled by a bear, so I suppose I should count my lucky stars, too. :p

Draft Wiki page for the Refuge up. There's more to add and rearrange and clean up but now you have a map and general idea. Lots of spoiler info but we'd be getting into that soon anyway. Yeah, the Refuge isn't quite as tough or crazy as they'd really like to project.
If everyone's fine with it, can I skip the diplomatic responses (we got your message and we'll be showing up at this time, etc.), assume it happened, and go straight to the first contact stuff? I hope no one minds because I'm a rather slow writer and it wouldn't be adding much to the story.

Precisely. Mayabird's implication about the setting is that the malevolent AI reality warpers attacked and killed benevolent ones in the indistinct past... but any entity capable of defending itself from their attacks might well still be "out there." They might not be as totally sadistic as the ones the Refugees are victims of, after all.

The music (from the point I start it) actually plays over the scene pretty well, IMO. The timing is about right, depending of course on how fast you read and/or how you give a "voice" to Admiral Leo (naturally, in my "voice" the timing works out pretty well ).

Hey Fingolfin, I've been under the assumption that these Tau of yours are pretty much one of those strawman versions of the Warhammer 40K Tau Empire that Connor prefers to the ones I know from the Codex (with the sterilizing and giant lasguns instead of pulse rifles and all that stuff), but I noticed you have Ethereal pheremones working on human beings, whereas Codex Ethereals only have power over other Tau.
Was that an intentional difference? Because if you're doing that, I want to know more about them before I start accepting their refugees...

I wouldn't say they have no effect. The Ultramarines novel definitely had the human governor reacting to the Ethereal in some way.

They are based on the 40K Tau in some way, with all the arrogance and technology etc. that comes with it.
But of course, they wouldn't exactly have the same history etc. I don't think I care to write all of that up to be honest.

Also, bear in mind that the pirates are operating in two entirely different regions of space several sectors apart. Some of them are operating out of the areas around H-6, right next door to Sorchus's Eoghans and Zor's Atlanteans- this includes the "Q'Blort Raiders" I mentioned in my recent post, the ones Zor's destroyer beat up. Since they're so close to two major regional powers who are actively operating against the pirates, I figure you two might well devote most of your efforts to handling them yourselves. It's not likely you'd want the Centrality snooping around with major fleet units in your backyard when you have perfectly competent navies of your own to do the job.
That has the added bonus that Zor and Sorchus are free to do their own thing without worrying too much about what I get up to in my own posts; I'll take any cues on what happens in H-6 from them and try to avoid writing anything that imposes constraints on them.
Then there are other pirates (including the ones based on Zebes itself) who are working out of H-12, which is closer to the Idurans and the United Sectors. Since the United Sectors is something of a no-show and the Idurans are politically fragmented (and Dave, of course, is low-availability for the time being), I figure that it would make the most sense for the Centrality and its allies (me included) to operate against those pirates.
The Boskonians are an overarching organization with ties to pirates in both H-6 and H-12, along with many other areas of space; I'm planning to use them in later story arcs (and quite possibly loan them out to other players as well, so to speak). However, their involvement in H-6 is much more limited than in H-12; the pirates in H-6 are mostly on their own except for a thin stream of Boskonian support, whereas the ones in H-12 are being directed by a fairly important Boskonian executive.
As I said, Zebes itself is physically located in Sector H-12, I believe, but there are other pirate worlds and many pirate bases not located on an inhabited planet- space stations, asteroid bases, and the like. Zebes is neither the only nor necessarily the largest pirate installation in the region, just the one that was easiest to find.

It's true; something like 97% of our ground forces by numbers is made up of conscript troops that are... how did Pollux put it... proudly shitty by USMC standards. The Intervention formations are more or less up to snuff, and the Strike units are actually pretty good, but there's only about fifty million of them out of an overall ground force of 1.7 billion.
