By the way, how should we handle the counter offer to Japanistan I made a while back? (This is probably something I should have brought up sooner, actually.)

Hey, does anyone have any relatively modern but affordable SSKs for sale? I'd like to have some for my, eherm, Coast Guard.

EDIT:

FINGOLFIN, how about letting Shroomanian companies into the laser-tech pie? Shroomania would like to mount SHEL lasers on rail platforms and have them patrol vital places like, say, Farbanti (Shroomania's capital) in case if incidents like the Warden take the turn for the worse.

A rail-mobile laser grid would be a great form of "static" defense.

Kraken-class SSGs are designed for pretty much exactly that.

Indhopal produces type 212 U-boats (look it up on wiki), if they at all interest you.

It interests me very much. Especially if Shroomania can add an RTG atomic power source, and the nifty features like the mast with guns and UAVs, plus tube-launched cruise missiles, and stuff.

Does anyone have a superior offer, or are the Type 212s the hottest shit there is?

Well, I dunno about the atomic power source or the guns, but the Kraken can do, well, everything else with certainty. I just need to figure out how much it'd cost, mind...

It's like a larger 212 with vertical launch tubes for cruise missiles and the like.

Oh, and an air defense radar, since we have sub-launched SAMs.

Ah, but Indhopal's subs are available for production right now. It would take several years for a new sub to be designed and even more time for a yard to start production. Then you have to work the kinks out! The 212 is a proven design ready to go now.

Sorry - I meant a generalized design with design changes as needed. Think of it as a sort of MEKO-SSK.

You need a better cover story than that. A submarine can do none of the jobs a coast guard ship needs to do.

Well the 212 has short a range (20km) IR guided AA missile in the works in real life. The SD.net version is a few years ahead of that so Indhopal's boats should have that capability. The 212 definitely doesn't have a cruise missile capability though.

Something to consider between any offer that Indhopal makes is I might have a good reputation for submarines. Indhopal was heavily involved in the FTO's submarine projects bankrolling a big chunk of it and providing a lot of the technical expertise. So that could be proven product and producer vs. a relative newcomer.

Indhopal could also provide somewhat competitive prices vs whatever design the IRT is trumpeting simply because I am producing a damn lot of the 212. As long as I get fairly close to breaking even on the order it might be worth selling some to shroomania just to get a better economy of scale for Indhopal's domestic production.

edit: added more details on the missiles.

Raj, good luck getting anything from Cascadia with regards to the MESS. They aren't members.

As a producer and operator of the F-15 Eagle (or at least an enhanced combat-capable version of the ACTIVE), Shroom might be interested in the Silent Eagle upgrade pack. For those of us who can't afford full-fledged fifth-generation fighters like the F-22 Raptor or the Su-50, a MacMillan-built F-15 ACTIVE with Silent Eagle upgrades would make a serviceable substitute; current users of the F-15 in CATO, such as PeZookia and Byzantium, may find the upgrades worth acquiring as well.

Huh. Guess I must have overlooked the appropriate Ares Blog entry you made, seeing as you're already in the process of refitting your Eagles Mudhens.

Shroom should still consider offering his own version of the Silent Eagle, though. Maybe Shady would be open to offering similar upgrades for the Su-27 family as well...

Also, geographical correction for Steve: Considering the way Messica's borders are drawn on the world map, all of California south of San Luis Obispo and Bakersfield would actually be part of Wilkonia.

I'm pretty sure Rogue said LA was in Shinra, though it might be further north on Messica than in North America.

To be fair, Cascadia does border two MESS nations, though I doubt Cascadian diplomats would be privy to what information Cascadian external intelligence gathers from said MESS nations.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

Cool. I'm not expecting Japanistan and Indhopal to become allies but somewhat friendly relations might be in the offering.

I'll be replacing my Eurofighters and F-15s with CF-01s on a 1:1 basis quite soon.

On the uboat front, why buy foreign when CATO has perfectly good Lada and Amur classes? All they need are AIP modules like the RTG plug and hydrogen peroxide fuel cells :D
