However, the military balance of power strongly favors Alexander at the moment; the Diocese wouldn't want to piss off Alexander when they have huge problems of their own.
Unlike Alexander, the Diocese has a protector.

No. The capital is a coastal city as well.

Oh, good.

I suppose it's a good thing the city wasn't directly, though. It's still the biggest humanitarian crisis ever, though.

It's a fucking mess however you look at it. The worst part is that area where the fallout is borders not just Alexandria but also the Sultanate.

Oh what fun.

Freetown's the other Seaport.

Of course, St. Basil's would be contaminated within a few days, and it's a governmental object with C&C bunkers, so we need to send people there first.

And Alexander really is an idiot. The plume will run along the coastline with the wind, right into his New Delphi.

Er, Shep's weapons are efficient, clean ones, aren't they? (edit: hell, they'd have to be to fit on that weapon system) And a high airburst will generate minimal amounts of fallout, by that time it should start dispersing. Frankly, the fallout plume is of minimal importance right now ... the big issue is all the people dying from poisoned water from the Black Rain, massive burn casualties and other nasty things.

If it was an airburst, there is going to be little fallout beyond the immediate area. The thousands of burned and mained people are a far more pressing concern.

Uh, yes.

I also think you were overstating some of the effects - remember that weapons effect scale roughly to the 1/3rd power in yield (since they're spreading in three directions). Now, the terrible infrastructure will screw them over, but even terrain effects can mitigate the losses. Look at Nagasaki, for example, which missed its optimal aim point.

Well, the Hiroshima bomb was merely 16 kTs, right? And far more deaths than Nagasaki. The Diocese is for the most part a plain, whereas Alexandria has a mountain range in the middle of it. So I presumed flat territory.

I've seen yield estimates from 12-20kT for the Hiroshima device (and similar for Nagasaki).

I thought I'd point out that, because we from the MESS and FUN have been doing relief operations, it is entirely possible any number of foreign nationals outside of Byzantium (whose culpibility in the aircraft shootdown has yet to be established) probably died in Magalia, as well.

It was also a simple gun-type device which was detonated over the optimal point over the city, and still didn't produce as many deaths from fallout as it killed via blast wave and fires.

So it shouldn't have to be said, but just in case: now is definately not the time to try and make further trouble in Terra Libertia. The Shinra Republic is not exactly in a very giving mood right now.

And I'm pretty sure we're not the only ones.

I don't know why, but I like this subplot from a storytelling perspective.

Well I know I get to indulge in a little investigative sideline. Where basically what's happened has happened, unlike the SERPENT thing where I'd have to make stuff up.

Plus it's that whole "post-nuclear" stuff people wanted earlier. The difference is we are in a position to help because of the limited effects. Whereas if it were full-scale we'd be trying to empty the ocean with teaspoons.

So, uh...vitality in mass death? :P

Hey, I've got an idea. You know that this Shepnukistani crew could've ejected from the plane, right?

And then watch as their government blasts a city in retaliation? How about we find them? :D

Well the Diocese was sending out a BTR-90 to snatch them, and probably anything else they could get from the wreck.

Actually it strikes me that BTR-90 crew could be vital to the investigation regarding the shootdown! Hmm, they're quite important. Hopefully they survived.

Also, Alexander and ProTec also went out to look for them, IIRC. So it depends on who found them first I think.

Ironic, yes. Although frustrating to my investigative efforts if the Diocese BTR-90 and the Shepnukistani aircrew got blown up. :|

They probably weren't, though, since they were still Alexandrian airspace. At most, they'd get burned or temporarily flash-blinded if they were looking at the flash.

Or...kidnapped by mountain bandits and held for ransom?

It's good now that we've got contacts with Indhopal - and by extension ProTec - yes?

This was why I want Indhopal in the FUN. I want Liquid Ocelot's PMCs.

Maybe I should have read this before sending Shep's aircrew back to him. But my main concern was having Shep conduct more strikes in order to get them back. Of course, the wreck and any flight recorders (which may have ejected with the pilots?)are still down there.

Alexander's response will be forthcoming.

Yes Shroom, you would have contacts with ProTec. (you can always just dial the corporae HQ :P )

Aw, shucks. We could've had a hostage rescue with Shep's aircrew and returned it to him with a note saying "You're welcome, dickhead" :D
