Arcadia's GDP is reasonably at the limit I can reach without going either absurdly prosperous (~45-50k per capita) or jumping the population up, which is difficult considering being an island nation (large or not).

Even with 8 trillion as the top-limit, I think that 3.5 is still fairly mid-tier personally.

EDIT: On second thought, Simon's link gives me an idea...

GDP: 4.08 trillion

That's taking the population of 95 million, with the IMF per-capita of Canada (43 thousand). That's quite literally mid-tier if we take 8 as the plateau

It sounds like the 8's are going to be a nonstarter, and we're more likely to see the 5-3.5-2 breakdown.

The thing that always confused me is, how/when are we actually going to see the "which GDP do you get" thing decided? I'd originally assumed such decisions would come in a timely fashion when players described their nation concept, but that hasn't happened. As a result, people are making things up for themselves, trying to make intelligible assumptions and plan ahead.

Except that it's hard to plan ahead when your nation might unexpectedly halve or double in size because of what Steve/Siege/someone decides about how good your nation concept is.

Basically, Steve's original concept required a level of fast moderator input and decision-making that did not materialize, so we've been operating in a state of uncertainty.

Aside from Thanas, is anyone playing a country that is 'too big?' Because if not, then maybe we should just scrap the GDP guideline except to say "somewhere in the 2-5 terabuck range." In which case... awk. There's a serious error in my original calculations I'll have to redo. I'd prefer to hold off on that till we get some definite answers regarding whether we set our own GDPs or have others do so for us.

I want the map to be finished before setting GDPs. It would be highly dumb to just start slapping numbers on nations without regard for their surroundings. So if you don't want to do work you might have to do over, don't do your OOB until we tell you to.

Any numbers I've made up have just been spitballing. I was already waiting to do anything really detailed until I knew for sure anyway.

There's gotta be at least one or two communist NPCs out there that Komradistan would support, giving us some room for interesting proxy wars, and nations getting snarly about the Komradistani navy sortieing out to assist...

I posit that some of the territory of the "Great Plains Republic" or whatever it ends up being called contains some pre-GW2 Klavostani territory that the communists now are interested in reclaiming - you may recall that my draft of the map earlier had part of the NPC brown colored in with stripes of my nation's color. So that's a potential flashpoint for the Probably Inevitable Land War, Maybe.
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

Komradistan can sail it's navy where it likes. As long as it isn't near Orion.

Y'see, we don't like communists very much. All that "we're equal" crap is clearly disproven by the fact that some (like us Orion's) are smarter than others (you dumb commies). :D

Thankfully, Orion is a little island in the ocean and the UOCSR can give it a wide berth...

Map update Post:

I was able to tweak some stuff around to solve a few of the problems:
  • Southern Coast of Eurasia now looks like Fin wanted it to. I stretched the coast he wanted, and moved some of his territory east further, while reducing the size of the unclaimed area.
  • Eurasia is now 6.75 degrees south of where it was. This solves some of the climate problems that would have happened with Thanasia & Pezookia
  • Austrailius now sports a nifty India-shaped peninsula. This breaks up the ocean paths between the Atlantic and the Pacific. No sense having a hurricane start west of Klavostan, and have it get to run all the way around to Tiangao.

Just to make something directly clear - and it might be something fun to play off of.

Even with the sea lanes between Fiji/Samoa & the Hawai'ian Islands open The Unified Kingdoms can not feed themselves.

The best case scenario is that they have ~500k people in the Hawai'ian Islands that have to be fed from imports. Expect that the Government has stockpiles to deal with shortages, but still, it's a known problem.

Many many thanks. :D

Hm. That area between the coast and the the UOCSR might be a good place to insert a NPC there. Or is it possible to shift the border up to the coast?

I had an idea for an NPC to take up some of the eastern region, it would essentially be the "Canada" of the world, that is, where the Crown Loyalists moved to when Cascadia won the War of Independence against Britonia. It would be the main reason why Cascadia didn't take anything significant of Nippon in the war; its Pacific offensive efforts were devoted to knocking the Dominion of New Britonia out of the war while it used bomber fleets to suppress Nipponese productivity and ensure Fusan troops could finish their operations with minimal Cascadian Army participation.

We're in a similar situation and import our food from all over the place. We'll be happy to ship some to you too.

Frankly I don't think that region of the world jives with a Canada at all. I propose a Himalaya-esque mountain range at the eastern edge of Kagaria/UOCSR to explain the abrupt border. Beyond the occasional tiny mountain kingdom the plains are essentially Tundra-Afghanistan: a lawless frigid 'graveyard of empires'. There could be some Britonian loyalists holed up in the interior as just another faction amongst many vying for control, but honestly I think there's quite enough history tied into Britonia already without introducing even more colonies/remnants/successor states.

Part of our problem is that we seem to only have the now-conquered Britonia as a colonial power in our 19th century. Who else was playing the Great Game at the time?

Tianguo was, but in the late 18th.

Well, that was pre-industrial times. I was thinking in terms of the industrial era, when the French, Spanish, and to a lesser extent the Germans, Dutch, and Portuguese all had substantial networks of far-flung colonies around the globe.

Well between 1556 and 1645 (when the treaty was signed with Britonia) Orion was visited by 8 different national expeditions, all of which tried (unsuccessfully) to claim us. Granted some may have been from the same empire, but that gives at least two or three other empires besides Britonia.

Rheinland was a colonizer in the 19th before Britonia and Nippon stole our colonies. *grumblegrumble*
Earlier on, Francia was another colonizer before they conquered. I'd imagine either Granadia or Britonia took their colonies.

If we are talking about NPCs then I would suggest two former Rheinland colonies (taken over by Britonia and then released after 80yrs war) on the southern continent. Maybe make them Namibia/Tanzania analogues.

Also, Rheinland would be happy to sell its food elsewhere.

I know, we've discussed that. :) Let's talk more about it when IC happens but I think we got a general understanding.

Actually I wasn't talking about the carriers, but rather some fighter planes. Or rather, a license to build the design in Orion for our own use.
