On the other hand, making the world bigger would allow us to A) introduce a whole bunch of new NPCs that could potentially make the game a lot more interesting and B) save us from this silly "our world is wee small!" sillyness. I really don't care much for the consequences of dealing with a world of Mars' general gravity myself, and all this ocean gets quite boring real quick...
I suppose if we were to do that we'd have to invoke Q upping our world. But instead of the Total Reset Button (I don't want to have to redevelop all our stuff, do you?) he would do a sort of shift into it, with our nations basically being as they are, but now it's a bigger world stage. Or something along those lines. Of course we might have to alter recent events a bit to account for it, and I suppose that could be a way to bury some of our OOC unpleasentness by having some kind of MESS/CATO tensions...just not to the utter depths we've managed to sink ourselves to.
Not that we probably won't find a way to get there again, but it's worth a shot.
If we did do something (SDN World 2.5 instead of 3.0) I think it would be interesting to have at least some (but not all) of the NPCs join a Japanistan-led alliance that is at least somewhat competitive with MESS and CATO. That way they can be dicks but nobody can claim an easy curb stomp on them, because they've got allies. Of course there should be enough unaligned NPCs out there so we can get into trouble without running into World War 3.
And of course we'd need some ground rules on NPCs. You can't just have them up and declare for an alliance because you want a power boost or any nonsense like that. Or easy land/resource/whatever grabs. But we obviously need real consensus if we're gonna shift into any SDN World 2.5 scenario.
EDIT: Which is not to say I'm not gonna go for upping the Velarian states instead. Just that
if we decide to play in a bigger world, I'm shotgunning some ideas out there for it.
