Over Shepistan
Big Smoke angled his F-22 to follow the path the compute told it to. The GPS constellation hadn’t been put up yet, so the computer was adjusting by Dead Reckoning as he headed towards his target: The Shepistan nuclear power plant at Calvert cliffs.
“Target reached…release release release.” Came the computer’s voice. He opened the bomb bays and the two 1,000lbs bombs fell out. Behind him the two other F-22s following him did the same. Below the bombs went crashing into the control facility, as the reactor itself was too heavily shield.
“Alrighty, let’s head back.” He said, the 4 ODAAF F-22s turned around and headed back…
+++
“Black Eagle One, Shepistani Interceptors incoming!” The Tian Xia F-15 pilot said.
“Yes, but they seem to be ignoring the F-22s. Stay on course!” The Pilot cursed, his HUD was dancing with warnings from the Shepistani air defenses.
Abruptly the computer began chirping, they were over the dam on the Patapsco river. He released the GBU-27s and watched with Satisfaction as they impacted the dam, which, true to intelligence estimates, proved to be made of substandard materials and began fall apart, with the river rushing down towards Baltimore…
+++
For once, Shepistani air Defenses seemed to have been caught flatfooted as ODAAF and Tian Xia fighters cleared the skies of interceptors. On the ground, ATACMS slammed into air defense assets…

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

The High Seas
Canissian ships at sea went to damage-response-ready modes, and merchants began high-speed runs to friendly ports. Naval vessels on routine patrol or training went to live ammo, and those that were in positions to do so went to escort nearby Canissian and MESS merchanters.
Beneath the waves, the SSN fleet went into hunting mode; the CSS Tiamat maintaining a close eye on the suspected Shroompeace sub which may, or may not, be an enemy sub or Q-Ship.
Royal Navy ships at port surged, active sonar pounding the depths of their home ports and comparing what they saw with known charts. Live ammo was readied and ASW assets launched.
The Skies
The Royal Air Force knew what to look for, and what vectors they'd likely come from-- the Shepistan base in Japanistan; long-range strikes from Shepistan itself... possibly Japanistan, but so far it was hoped that the Emperor would stay out of it.
Not that anyone was really placing hard money on that bet.
On the ground, B-1B and B-1R bombers prepared to sortie.
Maritime patrol aircraft and the Royal Home Guard scoured the seas around Canissia for evidence of submarines, mines, or infiltration.
The Ground
The Canissian Army was readied to repel invasion, but in truth their primary task would be to support the civilian population in protection and retaliation from air attack. Mobile anti-aircraft units were especially prepared, as were emergency responses, MASH units, and in particular, CBRN response resources.
Veleria
Canissian units in Veleria were dug in, and CAPs flying carefully within Katangwan territory. Surrounded by Japanistani forces, with only a handful of token Shepistan forces, the Canissian military forces there took defensive positions and waited, tense, coiled and ready to strike should it come to that.
So far, however, Canissian intent was to keep the conflict contained to the zone it was started in, and that message was made public as the Civil Defense emergency announcements made their first broadcast on public media.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

Skies over Shepistan
As the smoke cleared from the ATACMs strikes; the heavily hardened Super BOMARC sites began returning fire, the hardened bunkers opening up to reveal the waiting F-99s within.
While the F-99 didn't lend itself well to high energy short range intercepts; nothing could match it for sustained long range performance, as dozens of TXAF and OODAF pilots found out when the F-99s began to chase them around the sky and generally perform incredible feats of endurance.
In one instance, an OODAF JAS 39 pilot was downed as he formed up 300 nautical miles inside the Old Dominion by an F-99.

Over Shepistani Skies
Major "Brickhouse" Al-Opelm grunted as he took off from the runway on full afterburner; and took a little under three minutes to reach 40,000 feet, and then another minute and half to hit 50,000. From this altitude, the sky above him was a dark blue, and far off in the distance, he could see his wingmates, silver dots glinting off in the distance. As they burned off their fuel, the F-106H Delta Darts continued to climb ever higher, until they were at an astonishing 60,000 feet above the earth.
Now that they were at combat altitude, Al-Opelm and his wingmen got to work; lighting off their huge AN/ASG-30 radars; the huge 40 inch diameter antennas pulsing away with energy. Several seconds later, the datalink between the three F-106Hs was established. This was a feature that had been put onto the F-106Hs by Japanistani engineers; it was the same thing used on the JI-75 Demon Queller heavy interceptor; allowing a combat flight of three F-106Hs to share information between them, and in the case of aircraft like the F-101G Voodoo and F-105K Thunderchief, which weren't equipped with ASG-30s, to act as mini-AWACs for them and relay targeting information to them. (MiG-31 has this capability, and the JI-75 is a renamed MiG-31).
Compared to the old ASG-18s that it was derived from, the ASG-30 was a monster of a fire control radar; with an average power of nearly 7 kilowatts and a peak power of 14 kilowatts. This all translated to ungodly amounts of radar energy being emitted from the three F-106Hs, and since they were flying in a loose formation spread across the sky, and sharing data through their datalinks, they in effect became a flying bistatic radar array flying higher and faster than just about anything in the air, with the exception of the TXAF's SR-71s and F-12s, and some Japanistani experimental aircraft.
Like magic, the F-22s of the TXAF appeared on their radar displays. The Interceptor pilots synchronized their targets, to ensure that their weapons were spread evenly and no target was missed; and then fired off their missiles.
First off were the two FMRAAMs on the outer wing hardpoints on each F-106H, then the side weapons bays opened, and another two FMRAAMs entered the fray. Finally, the central weapons bay on each plane opened, adding a final two FMRAAMS to the mix. Now, some eighteen FMRAAMs were on their way to targets a hundred nautical miles distant, adding the altitude and speed of their launching platforms to their own liquid fuelled ramjets, extending their range...

Conference Room, Fort Farragut
King Brandon had heard the address to the Dominion about three times during his train ride from the Capital to the Military Command base at Fort Farragut. The base contained both the best military minds the Vineyards could front; it also was built into a mountain, adding another layer of protection to the fortress. Brandon addressed the staff, “Well, pray to ‘em if you got ‘em.”
Edward Mujica was the first to speak up, “Sir, are we going to respond to what may possibly become World War Three?”
”Not if I can help it, I assure you,” this revelation may not have had the right effect on Mujica, but it did quell other fears.
”sire, how do you intend to keep us out of World War Three?” asked one aide.
“Simple, by hoping our neutrality sticks. Honestly, how can we maintain our neutrality, other than by hoping no one attempts to invade us?”
“And if it comes to war, who do we support?” asked Mujica, nearly foaming at the mouth.
”We’ll face that hurdle if the time comes,” Brandon had specified if, making sure that the people knew it wouldn’t happen, “But a more pressing issue is stopping our more, rash, allies from deciding the fate of our continent. So, ideas?”
“We could, call for a meeting to discuss our fate, and decide our options,” a random voice called out.
“Good idea, but how can we get the people together, it took us two tries to get a official conference,” the king responded.
“It would make more sense to send out a message, and see how the leaders respond.”
“That is an idea, anyone see any problems?”
“Well, sire, I don’t think we could convey an appropriate tone in a letter.”
“No, we can, I assure you.”
Brandon then sent the military leaders back to their duty, and sat down in a chair in the auxiliary throne room. The ATR was a location in the Royal Retreat at Azzan, the place he had exiled his uncle to just one year ago, the ATR was the only part of the facility not open to the deposed King, he thought it was due to spite, but in actuality, Brandon still used the area for operating his duties when he made trips like the one he was currently on. He was now using this area to begin writing to the members of the FTO. Brandon could, conceivably just have an aide write up drafts for Brandon to approve of disapprove of, but Brandon felt this would be much faster, and ultimately better.
“Some things in life are bad; they can really make you mad…”
Brandon almost laughed at the wonderful song now playing on his computer, but he strove on, trying to figure out just how to word the question to the FTO. He ended with:
EMERGENCY COMMUNIQUÉ TO THE FTO
In case it is unknown to you, Shepistan and the Old Dominion are now at war. History now sees two options before it, a quick, bloody war between Shepistan and the MESS, resulting in a total Shepistani defeat. The other option is that of World War Three, the unthinkable terror that looms in every conflict. In this conflict, World War three may erupt from the joining of Japanistan in the war. This would be devastating, and may lead to the SNC going to War with Japanistan, or joining them in waging war with the MESS. The second part of the scenario is the most frightening, as it would lead to war on our shores, between the forces of the War in Westchester ’08.
What I see, it that the FTO has three choices, six if we add possible chronological changes to the decision. The first option is to join the MESS in war with the Shepistanis. The Second option is to back the Shepistanis in their fight with the MESS. The third option, the option I have been attempting to champion since I have came to power, is neutrality. I advocate neutrality on the grounds that it will allow the FTO to have its roots in peaceful coexistence, a skill that could win us our goal, stability, and non-interventionist ideologies.

Response - Vinish Message
FROM: His Grace Duke James of Baerne, in consultation with Their Excellencies the Ministers of All Relevant Ministries
TO: FTO Central Command
We support neutrality at the present, and the joining of the MESS faction should WWIII break out. Japanistan and Shepistan, after all, have no qualms about completely destroying the world to ensure their preeminence, a problem the MESS does not share.

Indhopal's position is that the FTO should mantain neutrality. One of the prime reasons for it's existance is so its members can avoid such pointless and destructive wars as are now unfolding. As I see it, we have no dog in this fight. We should mantain a high level of military readyness in case it threatens to spill over into Frequesue, however.Karmic Knight wrote: EMERGENCY COMMUNIQUÉ TO THE FTO

ADDENDUM TO THE INDAHOPAL MESSAGE.
The VEIL would like to inquire as to the reasoning behind the increased disease control operations on the Untamed Continent.
Edit: IF it comes to new "World War" I seriously doubt that Shepistan or anyone else will be able to destroy the MESS as a apower bloc. We shoud mantain strict neutrality unless we ourselves are threatened.

Near the Fucklands
The PB-56s, flying at 45,000 feet, their engines straining to put out maximum thrust to lift them and their heavy loads up high, where they could have longer range for both their missiles and their search radars, began to pick up the faint electromagnetic emissions of the Lord Fairfax CVBG, and quickly triangulated it's location, assisted by the faint returns they were getting off the BIG BULGE surface search radars in the noses of the PB-56s.
This was enough for a bearing only launch, and the information was rapidly put into the computers of the Igo-6 missiles. Moments later, the first drops began from the PB-56s. Within minutes, a hundred eighty Igo-6 missiles had been released from their carrier aircraft and acclerated towards their targets some 300 nautical miles distant at cruise speeds of Mach 3.5 and altitudes exceeding 65,000 feet.
Their task done, the PB-56s and RB-56s turned away for home, with the DFB-56s circling back every couple of minutes to check the raid's flanks from the F-18Fs closing in on them at full afterburner. Elsewhere, the same process was also repeated with the other raid group tasked with striking the Bulwark CVBG.
As the missiles screamed towards the Fairfax and Bulwark CVBGs, the F-18 and A-6's missions changed from intercepting the Shepistani bombers, to shooting down the enemy missiles before they could reach their home bases. The Igo-6 was already at the bounds of the maximum engagement envelope for the AIM-120s that they carried, even taking into account the fact that they were coming in straight with little or no manouvers.
But still, they had to try to stop the missiles before they entered the CVBG's outer engagement envelope, because while AIM-120s were easy enough to fly in to the carrier via CODs or brought over from AOEs, Standard Missiles couldn't be reloaded except in port.
Out of the 200 AIM-120s launched at the incoming Igo-6s, about one in four managed to hit their targets, due to the difficulty of the pop-up attack approaches against the high and fast flying Igo-6s, leaving 130 for the Lord Fairfax's defenses....
DNS John Smith was the first to open fire with her SM-2ERs at 130 nautical miles; expending nearly all of her 110 SM-2ERs in the process, downing forty missiles in the process. A period of silence then passed before the missiles came into range of the SM-2MRs on the destroyers and frigate escorting the Carrier at fifty nautical miles.
168 SM-2MRs were fired in two separate salvoes, downing sixty five missiles in total, before the computers controlling the weapons stopped assigning targets to the Standards and began giving them to the ESSMs, due to the close ranges.
Still 25 Igo-6s remained; and they were now in their terminal dives; exceeding Mach 3.5 as they dived from their 65,000 ft cruise altitudes onto their targets, having briefly exchanged radar images amongst themselves and cooperatively assigned themselves to the targets judged to have the most value.
Defeating such an attack was a herculean task, and the AEGIS combat networks of the Lord Fairfax CVBG strove mightily to make it such, but alas; there were too many missiles and not enough time or weapons that could be brought to bear.
Thus it was that no less than six missiles made it through the last ditch hail of fire from the ESSMs, RAMs, and Phalanx systems.
Three struck the Lord Fairfax in a staggered pattern along her flight deck, the huge 2,200 lb semi-armor piercing warheads punching through the flight deck and detonating within the hangar deck, quickly setting the carrier ablaze from stem to stern.
One struck the John Smith, which quickly settled to a dead halt in the water, burning fiercely. Another one hit the York, causing more damage to the lighter frigate. The final missile exploded several feet away in the water from the DDG Norfolk, having been clipped by a 20mm round in it's final dive in a sheer act of luck. Unfortunately for the Norfolk, the missile was close enough for the water pressure from the nearby explosion to pop weld seams in the Norfolk's hull, knock a shaft out of alignment, and cause the AEGIS system on board to go out from shock damage.

RSS Jack SSAN - Cruising somewhere near New Sumatra
"Sir," said the radio officer of the Jack as he entered the wardroom, where Captain Kuzmina was talking with Reserve Colonel Tenchiro, Nakattackajima's military liason to the Shepistani military.
"What?" asked Kuzmina, clearly annoyed at this interruption.
"Sir, the MESS has declared war on Shepistan. We've received word of large scale air attacks on the Homeland, and the sonar shack has picked up multiple screw noises from what appears to be multiple carrier groups transiting at high speed."
"Great," muttered Kuzmina. "Just great," he added as he dismissed the radio officer.
"Why are you so glum, Captain?" replied Tenchiro. "We now have the opportunity to actually do combat trials of the new Igo-26 anti-carrier weapons system, instead of simple work up trials against mock targets!"
"Because Tenchiro, I was hoping for some time to work up the system, get to know it's fallabilities, any quirks with it before I use it in a life or death situation."
"A true samurai will always triumph, Captain!"
"Perhaps. We have a lot of work ahead of us though. We have to check the 26-inch weapons, of which we have 64 of, and then the Special Type 26-inch...."
At that, Tenchiro snorted.
"Sorry. I mean 40 inch weapons. Secrecy is no longer a concern since we're in the big one it seems..."
Kuzmina sighed.
"I'll have to issue work orders for the Sea Stallion missiles to be pulled and inspected on a rotational basis; we need to be sure they work; then we'll have to inspect the Igo-26 weapons. Lots of work there."
"Hopefully, we can expend them soon in glorious combat."

Armament:
6 x 40" Torpedo tubes containing the following munitions in that hull's magazine:
8 x Sea Stallion 40" inch SUBROCs. Similar in concept to ASROC and SUBROC, except this one is big enough to throw a full sized 21" heavyweight torpedo the size of a Mark 48 to possibly the third convergence zone. Armament of six 40" tubes on later SSANs dictated by doctrinal need to bracket no less than two subsurface targets (Submarines) with triangular pattern of three Sea Stallions each, ensuing 100% probabilty of kill (the target submarine is bracketed; no matter which way he turns, he's going to be in a closing pattern with a Mk 48 sized heavyweight torpedo.)
12 x Igo-26 Anti-Carrier Ballistic Missiles. Launched from 40" Tubes, joint development with Japanistan. After launch, floats to surface in encapsulated container ala Tomahawk tube launch, where solid rocket motor fires and kicks the Igo-26 high enough off the surface for it's main engine to ignite. Igo-26 is essentially a navalized version of the Russian SS-26 Iskander SRBM. Range of 215 nautical miles, and is equipped with a radar-guided anti-carrier semi-armor piercing warhead with a weight of 1,050 lbs.
12 x 26" Torpedo tubes containing the following munitions in that hull's magazine:
14 x Misc Weapons -- basically 21" torpedoes, etc in sleeves to allow loading in 26" tubes.
50 x 26 inch torpedoes: 6,987 lb weight, 1,200 lb HE warhead, 36 nm range at 40 kts, 23 nm at 50 kts, 16 nm at 60 kts, 11 nm at 70 kts.
NOTES: Both 40 inch and 26 inch torpedo magazines are fully automated with power and mechanized loading, meaning they can be reloaded in less than a minute or so.
10 x Multipurpose Silos Can be used as lockout chambers for special forces, can hold one Trident II D5 sized SLBM in each one, or seven Tomahawk sized missiles.
56 x Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (clones)
8 x Surface to Air Mines.

Allegheny Mountain Range, near the Shroomshir Glacier
"Alright, what do we got?" The Captain said. The Mountain troops were edging forward through the nearly impassable mountains, where the altitudes were so high there remained tropical glaciers.
"Looks like the Rock-chuckers have set up guards around the mine." The staff sergeant said. "About a company." Looking through his field glasses, he could see a Shepistani 1st Lieutenant being throughly engrossed with what he was picking out of his nose. "The A-Team, as usual. Schmuckatelli's squad reported that the Shepistanis were asleep at the switch over by the AA gun."
The Captain nodded. The El-Kamino Palladium deposit was one of the biggest in the world. It also earned Shepistan a healthy chunk of change. The past few administrations had taken the "it ain't worth banging our heads against the wall over" route, but that hadn't stopped war plans from being developed.
"Alright, call it in."
Within minutes one of the Shepistani soldiers came running out of one of the trailers, shouting, and it became a madhouse. Less than a minute after that 2 A-10s came flying over the peaks blasting the army facilities, the security facilities, and for good measure the motor pool with dumb bombs, 70mm rockets, and the gatling gun. After 3 passes they turned and headed back.
The Mountain troops closed in and finished off whoever they found.
Results: Old Dominion forces are attempting to force through the mountain ranges that divide Shepistan and the OD *NORTH* of the Kanawha tribal area.

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
The CFR Arms Trade
All the factions in the CFR were getting more guns from somebody. The IRT and Japanistan were the biggest suppliers, flying in arms and equipment to tiny airstrips. Japanistan was the big supplier of Ammunition and weapons systems. It was hard for other arms dealers to beat out their prices on older equipment. Meanwhile the IRT was the big supplier of communications and other electronic gear.
The Revolutionary Front was buying all sorts of weapons, from rocket artillery to AK-47's, as well as upgrading its communications and night fighting capability for the Iron Tigers. Mortimer Jr's group was mainly buying small arms and ammunition to equip its militia forces with actually military hardware. The Winter Army was getting shipments of light armored vehicles in from Japanistan, as well as top of the line electronics gear, spares for their air force and lots of ammunition. Even Indhopal's client, the Yorkshire Militias, was being equipped with Japanistani stocks. Their big orders were rocket artillery and lots of ammunition of all types.
In many cases, the deliveries were very discrete using chartered flights piloted by mercenaries. In the case of shipments heading for the Yorkshire militias and the Winter Army, Japanisani freighters simply unloaded the goods in Indhopal and they were sent in overland. The commander of the Winter Army had managed to convince his old comrades in the ISIA that allowing his faction to arm itself was a good idea. The Defense committee had even approved the process.
Except for the Yorkshire militias, which were paid for out of Indhopal's pocket, Payments by the groups were made in the form of raw diamonds or other natural resources. For now things were quiet. The major groups were rearming and reorganizing, getting ready for their next move.
Winter Army Looking for Mining Contractors to Start Work ASAP
Battle hardened soldiers from the Winter Army have been recently making the rounds of the world’s biggest mining corporations, as well as smaller outfits. They were looking for someone to set up operations in the Central Highlands, which are controlled by the group. They guarantee the security of the mines. The area is known to be filled with a wide variety of mineral resources.

Weinburg Forces
Outside Baernish 1ST ARMDIV HQ
"Colonel Leino. A pleasure to see you again." The former Knight of Rounds greeted his Baernish liaison officer with genuine warmth.
"And you as well, Mr. Weinburg. I've just spoken with Count Adomu, and they're going to send some reserve units out here as cadre for your army." During Gino Weinburg's and the Commanding Officer of the Baernish First Armored Division's last talk, the idea of the Duchy providing training for his forces had come up. The Count had promised to speak with his superiors about it, and the idea appeared to have borne fruit.
"I'm delighted to hear it. When can we expect your comrades? I'm eager to begin my part of the stabilization of this pitiful excuse for a country."
"Sometime next month, I think, Your Excellency. It was going to be sooner, but what with the Old Dominion and Shepistan goint at each other..."
"I quite understand. The exigencies of war, and all that." Weinburg's grin was rueful. He knew all too well about the way war could change one's plans.
"Precisely."

------------Emergency directive to all Byzantine Units---------------
Under the Direct Order of his Majesty Emperor Heraclius IV,
All Byzantine Units are to go to Alert Level IV, i.e. to go on war footing and to be alert for any enemy units that enter their area of engagement. All Limitanei units are hereby mobilised for war. Under no circumstances are you to fire without the express authorisation of his Majesty himself, unless the enemy has violated without equivocation Byzantine Territory; i.e. Air Space, Sea Border, and Land Border. Full battle readiness reports are expected ASAP.
End
=================
With that order, all bombers and aircraft were fully loaded with ammunition and all patrol craft were launched.
Surface ships began pinging the harbors and water ways, looking out for ships.
Local radar units were running their radar and looking for boogeys.
Army units were mobilised and ready to surge if required.
Full alert had been initated.

End
=================

The hearse sped along the dusty road toward a random town in this clusterfuck of a country. The man in the driver’s seat was Arthur Dimmsdale, preacher, and hopefully, the saviour of a country. Dimmsdale didn’t have that lofty of goals; he merely wanted to help as many as he could. This was why he had sold all of the land his congregation had, and bought the equipment he had now, a pair of trucks, a warehouse, some employees, his clergy, and this hearse. The hearse was the pride of his fleet of cars, many time being the thing that got people talking more so than his message, much more so. Dimmsdale frowned at this thought, the people, would have to follow him before they followed God, it seemed.
He still maintained ties with his homeland, from what his fellow priests back in Eutopia told him, shit had hit the fan with the godless Shepistanis, which Dimmsdale regarded as a good thing, more people fighting in the name of God the better was his motto. While he contemplated the plight of the pious, he turned his thoughts back to his own plight, “A wise man once said, ‘On second thought, O Muse, sing of nothing to me. I know you. I have been bound and servant to you, O Muse, you incomparable bitch. And I do not trust you, O Muse. Not one little bit.’ Though the god is blasphemous, the message remains, let not your story be told by other, let it be told by the experienced,” the priest mumbled to himself.
“Yes, do not tell someone else’s story, tell your own,” he took a moment to pause and look at the sky, “Dear Immortal Saviour, and his son, listen to my story, not from second hand sources, but from myself. To quote the wise man, once again, ‘If I am to be the unwilling Chorus of this tale, then I can start the story anywhere I choose. I choose to start it here.’ I was once a pious preacher, in a town in the Pious Land of Eutopia, we lived our lives by thy word, holding ourselves up to your standards, if only as a way penance. We, the unworthy, worked to help those not doomed to a better place in the after life. One morning, I was simply a priest, we are a dime a dozen amongst the populace of any pious nation, and I realized it was time to change that. So, in an effort to bring people to the light of your splendour, I have forced myself to take up arms and slowly seep the influence of God into these people. I have used tactics that would be deplorable in any other section, including spreading envy, and promoting non traditionalist ideas. God, forgive ME!”
The latest outburst almost caused the self-styled prophet to crash into oncoming traffic, he cleared his throat after the ordeal, and continued placating his Lord, “Forgive Me, but I am just a member of the unworthy, though you could, in your favour, change that. As I was saying, my tactics, though deplorable, have caused a larger number of interested hopefuls trying to catch a glimpse of the man of God. Soon, we will have converts, and even sooner, we will have a following and base that will propel You into power as the ultimate leader of us unworthy.”
He was on what was technically Yorkshire Militia land, but the seditious prophet was willing to move to an area of less control if the Yorkshires got too oppressive. Dimmsdale wasn’t too afraid, he could get the people behind him fast enough to keep him from being arrested, even if it required escaping via an series of hideouts, the people were his defence.
Even with his over inflated view of his worth, he was slowly gaining clout.

Shepistani skies
The Shepistani Air Force believed that their F-106Hs were the highest flying air-breathing aircraft, barring the Habus. They were quite wrong. F-15s had the capability of flying at 60,000 feet, and the F-15Fs of 46th Fighter Wings were flying at that altitude. They had been specially equipped with the Dash-6 FAST packs, designed for electronic warfare. The ALQ-99F systems were capable of delivering 10.6kW max power.
Capt Alto Saotome was the WSO of Surprise Attack, monitoring the highly automated systems that tuned the ALQ-100 to effectively jam the radars of the F-106Hs, turning their displays into hash, and resulting in the FMRAAMs of the Shepistanis losing lock.
Five thousand feet above him, the F-22s of the 96th Fighter Wing had detected the F-106Hs long ago, and had already launched AIM-120Es against them. The four ship flight launched 6 solid fueled ramjet missiles total towards the F-106Hs.
Elsewhere, the few F-12Ds available were making strikes. Though they had been designed as fighters, it was decided to give them air-to-ground abilities as well. The forward two weapons bays were configured with six AIM-120Es, and made good use of them. The aft weapons bays were fitted 12 GBU-39s. They dropped the bombs at long standoff ranges, punching through the hardened bunkers of Bomarc missiles. They then returned to airbases in Wilkonia.
Closer to the deck, the F-16DJs of 17th Fighter Wing was having a field day against the air defense radars near the Shepistani border. HARMs were being launched like fireworks.
The biggest weakness of BOMARC was the datalinks controlling it. Jam them, and they were useless for long range shots. Additionally, they were so large that they themselves could be shot down, and were.

"We have launch confirmation. Bring us to launch depth, and prepare to launch tomahawks."
The guided missile submarine began rising. Once it reached launch depth hatches on the dorsal side began opening. Tomahawks were ripple fired out, the entire exercise being completed with in ten minutes, from hatches opening to closing. Elsewhere, four othe submarines did the same. They quietly slunk away.
A total of 770 Tomahawks were in the submarines, the targets of each varied, but a number were targetted at radar installations. They nearly universally carried submunitions, and most of the tomahawks were targetted at multiple radar sites to ensure destruction of the radars.

The four ship flight was equipped with Dash-5 EW FAST packs, giving them the capability to conduct escort jamming for themselves. The Dash-5s were similar to the F-15 Dash-6 FAST packs, giving high power jamming potential in an easy to carry package. With datalinking, the F-14s APG-71v1 radars were capable of reaching out nearly 500 miles, having a peak power of approximately 32 kW, and an average power of 5kW, and their LPI design made them exceptionally resistant to jamming, and for that matter, detection. The bombers were picked up nearly 800 miles from the combined TXN/ODN battlegroup. That fact was communicated to the carriers, where upon nearly the entire airwings of each launched.
By the time bombers were 450 miles from the carriers, the F-14Es had flushed themselves of their eight AIM-120Es, which were being directed by the radars of the F-14Es cooperatively. When the Tomcats handed off of direction, and let the AIM-120Es begin targetting was the first hint that to the bombers that they were under attack. Each of the F-14s had targetted a different bomber, though which they had targetted didn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. The F-14s turned for the safety of the carriers, then accelerated back to Mach 2.3 for the run home. They left the before the opposition were close enough to get a shot off.
The bombers weren't so lucky. Although the missiles were ballistic by the time they reached the bombers, B-56s weren't known for their manueverability. The continuous-rod warheads were lethal if they reached close enough. Most of them did. Noses were sheared clear off some bombers. Other bombers lost wings. A couple were sheared off at the tail. In all 27 bombers of various types were taken out, making the F-14E crews into instant aces. About half of them were DFB models.
Back at the carriers, the TXAF carrier wings launched. The A-7Fs weren't designed as fighters, and their radar had limited capability in the air to air role, but they were cleared to carry AMRAAMs, and could launch them. And they carried 12, while still able to go supersonic. The F-14s carried less, but were faster, flew higher, and had much, much better radars.
Nearby the ODN carriers launched their F/A-18Es and A-6Fs. They were tasked with defending against the probable anti-ship missiles. The ODN already had fighters up, working as the inner CAP.
Earlier A-7s might have struggled to reach altitude, but the A-7 had much more powerful engines, and was capable of getting to their firing altitudes relatively quickly. Of course, the F-14s got there even faster. They were fast enough to reach the 300 mile mark from the carriers before the bombers reached the 400 mile mark.
The carrier based force held over 1200 AIM-120Es. The interesting thing about the radars of the F-14E was that it was mostly limited by the fact that the Tomcat could only hold 8 AMRAAMs, not by any limitation in processing power or control capability. Thus, they were able to guide not only their own missiles, but also the missiles of the A-7Fs. And so, with the datalinking capabilites of the Tomcat, the A-7s launched their missile wave at once at the bombers, from a speed of Mach 1.6. This was almost as many missiles going towards the force as was in the force. Again, with the capabilities of the AESA radar, the bomber force had no warning until the AMRAAMs were already in the final stages of their attack run. Over six hundred bombers fell apart in mid air.
And the cats weren't done yet. The Tomcats accelerated to max speed, then launched again. They didn't need to flush their missile racks this time though. Each ended up launching 4 missiles, more than double targetting the remaining bombers. The only remaining portion of the bomber force was a single tanker, attempting to run towards home. One last pair of missiles ensured it didn't make it.
Turns out the backstop wasn't necessary.

Lelouch's quarters, Royal Palace, Ashford City
New Year's Day, 2009 [Unreal Time]
As Kallen stepped outside to check on Euphie and Nunnally (and lecture them on the dangers of letting someone like Suzaku run loose), Suzaku simply pulled up a chair and sat with Lelouch and Shirley.
"So, how's life been treating you lately?" Suzaku asked, trying to get a conversation going.
"It's actually been quite stressful," Lelouch replied. "I'll admit, leadership of an entire nation is a very heavy burden, but I don't regret taking it on. My older siblings have been invaluable in advising me; if I didn't have them to guide me, I probably would have run this country into the ground within months."
Lelouch laughed ruefully to himself at that last statement. "Well, things obviously haven't fallen apart in your presence," Suzaku chuckled. "The economy's on the upswing, the military's expanding, the common people are happy. What more do you want?"
"Like I said, it's a hard job, but it's worth it in the end."
Suzaku then turned to Shirley. "Surely you've faced accusations of favoritism, that Lelouch picked you and Milly for your respective positions simply because he likes you two in the sack, right?" he asked in jest.
"Oh, ha-ha, very funny," Shirley shot back. "We're very good at what we do, both in and out of bed."
Kallen returned to the bedroom to find Lelouch, Shirley, and Suzaku actually getting along together. "I just spoke to Euphie," she reported. "She did authorize Suzaku's temporary release. She's sorry that she and Nunnally didn't run it by you first, Lelouch."
"Ah, it's nothing too serious," Lelouch said. "Come, sit down. We're just getting started here."
And so Lelouch, Kallen, Shirley, and Suzaku remained in each other's company for the rest of the night, trading stories, talking about current events, and reminiscing of times long gone. True to his word, Suzaku did go back to his cell in the palace basement come sunrise.
"We can always find some time to visit him there later," Shirley said.

Aboard the Highwind, outbound from the Crimson Star Republic
President Rufus Shinra had departed from the CSR capital's airport shortly after receiving the word that war had begun. After a brief conversation with Comrade Stanislav - with much the same results as that had by King Arik, who had been with him - he boarded his aircraft and left. He was first escorted by Crimson fighters, a nice gesture by Stanislav, although it was exceedingly unlikely anyone would take a shot at him over CSR airspace; such an affront would likely bring the Republic into war with the offender.
Once over international airspace, Tian Xia fighters and tankers, with an AWACS aircraft keeping the gaggle together, took over. They were, simply put, closer than the SRAF. Escorted, first by a friend and now an ally, he made it safely home.
After touching down at an "undisclosed location" he got on the phone in his motorcade: "Get the president of Cascadia on the line ASAP."
When he was in the command complex, an aide handed him the phone. "President Garrett for you, sir."
Taking the phone in hand, Rufus quickly got to business. "Steve, hi. Kinda pressed for time as I'm sure you can guess, so I'll get right to it. I'm thinking of temporarily taking my troops out of Van Halstoff. Sheppard is enough of a dick to bomb you by claiming to be after them. That's why I pulled out of Syl awhile ago. What do you think?"
Steve responded after a moment's thought. "You're probably right, I don't trust Japanistan to restrain him, and knowing Sheppard..." After a moment, he added, "We've had a couple more refuelers delivered to the Air Force lately, and Van Halstoff has a small port now. If you need to reserve your mid-air refueling aircraft and other logistic assets for the war, we'll be fine."
"Thanks. Hopefully, when this is all over, we'll of course go back to help you out. Let's just pray to whoever will listen that Japanistan doesn't stick its nose into this one."
"I will be. But at this point, I'm not holding out hope."
"Well, maybe we'll get lucky." Privately, Rufus thought that it had been a long time since that had happened in these Q-damned games. "Anyway, I gotta go. See you on the other side." I hope.
After saying their goodbyes, Rufus quickly began to issue orders. "Put all forces on alert. We are at DEFCON TWO. Bring back the Airborne battalion in Velaria. Redeploy Battlegroups Three, Four, and all other naval assets near Velaria to support the MESS efforts in the war. Battlegroups One and Two will remain on station to watch out for Japanistan attack. Get everyone else ready for strikes in Shepistan, and have secondary strikes readied for Japanistan, just in case.
"Send word to fellow MESS leaders. Provided they take no repeat no hostile action, Shepistani forces in Japanistan proper and co-deployed in Velaria should not repeat should not be engaged. We don't want to escalate if we can avoid it. Presuming nobody objects, we'll send that message out to Japanistan. Let them know we do not consider them hostile, and if they stay that way we give them our full assurance no action will be taken against them.
"Let me know when our people are safely out of Van Halstoff. I have a speech to prepare for."

Shinra forces in Van Halstoff going home.
Shinra forces placed at highest alert level short of war.
Navy redeploying to get ready.
Diplomatic measures being taken to let Japanistan know, essentially, "we'll leave you alone if you leave us alone and don't let Shepistan use you as a base to strike from."
Shinra Republic is NOT formally at war just yet.
Emperor Heraclius IV issues official statement on the Shepistan-Old Dominion war
The Emperor, after discussions with the MESS and SNC members, has declared himself neutral in the matter and will not intervene in any way militarily.
In response to Japanistan's demands that Byzantium curtail anti-Japanistani demonstrations, the Emperor stated that he has only a certain degree of control over what the Ecumenical Patriarch says, but requests that Japanistani uphold their claim of freedom of worship in their country. The Emperor notes that Japanistan has severed internet connections from the rest of the world, not long after the Ecumenical Patriarch issued his condemnation.
Ecumenical Patriarch said to be angry over the severance of communications from Japanistan
The Ecumenical Patriarch has been barred from making further news conferences, but news has leaked out that he is furious over the loss of internet connections to Japanistan, and that he fears for the safety of the Christians and Muslims. He is said to have vowed to declare any Christian or Muslim who died for the faith, martyrs and saints.

Cascadian Military Communication
As of this moment, in response to the outbreak of war between MESS states and Shepistan, the armed forces of the Republic of Cascadia are at DefCon 4 (raised from DefCon 5). The Intrepid COG has moved west to give better coverage to Northwestern Veleria (with the cooling down of the al-Akharabat situation they resumed their more general patrol along northern Veleria). Republic COG has made port at Bremerton for final replenishment and pre-deployment checks before heading to Veleria to either supplement or relieve Intrepid COG. Defiant COG's R&R cycle has been quietly urged forward to ensure the COG can sortie.
In a general statement, the Republic of Cascadia has affirmed neutrality in the new MESS/Shepistan conflict. The Republic has also sent inquiries to other governments involved in Veleria (Japanistan, Zoria, Serenity, Canissia, Astaria, Tonkin, NPCs) about maintaining the Untamed Continent's neutrality in the war.
Preperations are being made now to not only host a Frequesuan Neutrality Conference in one month's time (I figured in real life we'll open the conference Saturday), but for Cascadia to provide arbitration between the FTO and the nations of Omango and Sabika in their current peace-talks.

PRAVDA: First Guards Tank Army Redislocated to Jerusalem
The transit of goods and passengers on the Vladimir-Jerusalem railway line is forcibly stopped for the entire CSR part of the line to ease transfter of military equipment.
The 1200-tank strong force is the best and most well-equipped among the CSR Tank Armies. It is half-equipped with the newest CSR tank, the "Black Eagle", with a 140-mm gun, and rumors are that a yet newer MTB, only known as T-95 is slipping into the ranks of the 1st Guards Kutuzov TD.
It's redislocation will take over two months - to transfer all the equipment, support units, several tactical PVO brigades and construct additional living quarters for the soldiers.
- The Continental Defense Plan is being put into action due to the threats which the South poses to all continental nations, - said Comrade Stanislav.
Additionally, the 37th Air Army has been even further broken up to cover and spread-out aerodromes.

With sufficient deliveries made to the RCAF, the Department of the Air Force has announced that on the 8th of February, 2009, the 10th Fighter Squadron will be formally activated into service with the Air Force. The 10th Fighter Squadron is being stationed at Gerhardt Air Force Base in Columbia Province as part of the 3rd Fighter Wing with the 4th and 6th Fighter Squadrons, and like them is equipped with the ASF-10C Condor air superiority fighter.
