STGOD 2020 Rules Runoff

No option got a majority of the vote. The two that got the highest were freeform with four votes and the intermediate complexity revision of 2k8, with three votes, out of a total of ten votes cast. I'm going to run this poll for two days and hopefully we'll be able to get orders of battle written and the game started within the next week.
Reminder of the options:
Intermediate complexity rules, containing only those specializations relevant to roleplay (stealth, counters to it, and speed).
Freeform: General don't be that guy and listen to the moderators.

I think I prefer the structured part of STGOD, and part of the structure is the numbers. It's not just for resolving conflicts, but also for guiding how the fight should logically end up.

I've been trying to get that across, but succinctness has never been my strong suit.
Since the full 2k8 rules are off the table now I'm having a bear of a time reworking my ORBAT. Like, their different Offense and Defense values were the only things that set my two escort classes apart. x_x

I voted freeform but I don't mind having rules for some things (battles, stats, whatever) and freeforming the rest. Like if you want to have a ship with some characteristic that's not covered in the points... just highlight it and say 'this ship is a stealth craft' or whatever. Pretty sure nobody here is going to fuss unduly about that as long as you aren't pulling it out of your ass.

Um... That's what all of the systems are, though. There's nothing dictating how you roleplay or anything; it's just combat guidelines, that you don't even need to take literally unless you're at loggerheads. For the most part they just get used as a guideline to guide how events should turn out rather than busting out the calculators and getting into the weeds on the nitty gritty of fractions of damage output, etc.

Fair. I think I can figure out how to rework everything but the
Binder, since I (perhaps foolishly) removed interdiction from the stats.

Yeah I mean, i think we are kind of getting caught up on semantics and such here.
Pretty much 90% of everything we do is going to be freeform Roleplay.
about the only time "numbers" enter in is in battle

We're tied at 4-4. I haven't cast my vote yet. I'll give it a few more hours since by the count of the previous poll we still have two outstanding votes (including my own) to make sure we don't end up tied. If nothing changes, I'm going to vote for rules simply to cut down on the FURTHER negotiation freeform would entail, namely how big our fleets can be and how the ships interact with each other (the standard when we did these freeform was that the more ships you had the weaker they individually were - until someone went on an unregulated shipbuilding spree, of course).

Okay, it's midnight. I've put my vote in. If anyone needs help with their orders of battle, ping me and I'll be happy to walk you through.

Ok, just so I'm clear on this. I get 3,000 industrial points to spend on ships and troops, 500 to spend on national bonuses, and 100 to spend on planets, which are on a 1-10 scale?

Yeah. Also note that ships can only be a max size of 50 unless you invest in Improved Shipyards, which have to have a designated location. Not 100% sure if that's base or total - I've calculated on the basis of total size.

The limit is total ship cost including bonuses.

Ok, I'll throw something together this afternoon. Also, VX, you stole my Battlestar!
(For reference I assume
Warspite was a Block-II
Mercury assigned to BSG-17)

It's a reference to the fanfic in-universe as well - given Endeavour's cultural archives all got encrypted and had to be manually decrypted, it's entirely possible that they haven't actually unearthed the original shows yet.

Well that's a brain-bender
Perhaps my Orions should raid your archives so I can get an advance look at how it ends
