Not sure how I missed this...Congratulations, man! I can certainly sympathize with the time issue, my 2yo daughter is sitting next to me, and my son will arrive in about 2 months. Enjoy them while you can, they grow up so darned fast!fractalsponge1 wrote:This is not really an art update, but a heads-up in case anyone is wondering: updates will be extremely slow for a while. Having a new baby boy in the family will do that. When I do get back into it, finishing touches and a gallery for the lambda and the corvette (plus a name for the latter) will likely come first. Till then, I might be lurking for a bit.

Re: Something big
Some more updates. I know the pattern is a little more complex than the reference in the ICS, but meh, that's ok, right? :p
Re: Something big
quick question, why are the treads so deep? It seems the wheels would be pretty fragile built like that.

Well, this is Star Wars. Those wheels could be stacked discs of Imperator hull material with reinforcing force fields.

Rocket/grenade launchers - these scale out to ~70mm diameter tubes - someone at ILM was thinking.

Re: Something big
Topside details - the sensor dome and the gun mount are obviously not done - debating what kind of gun to put in there (original or something bigger and more interesting).

OK, so here's the lookout thing. I thought the idea was stupid but looked cool, I decided to remake it into a sensor pod, with the "lookout" platform a narrow light mesh thing around it (~1m wide). Kept the ladder bit. Still not quite final, but this is the gist of it.

Re: Something big
Wanted to say amazing work as always Fractal.
I will admit that the tank has not been one of favorite EU designs, largerly as it just seems, well, poorly designed. The main guns are high on top and I would feel it has a hard time actually hitting anything on the ground. The side guns are mounted on those wierd stocks and don't seem to have much flexibility. I guess it works better as a command vehicle, though it is always shown in the middle of battle.
Still on your end it is the best incarnation of the thing, and I can actually imagine the thing in battle now looking and what you have done

Re: Something big
I think the A6 is pretty well designed, more or less, for a SW vehicle the size of some corvettes. It's much faster than an AT-AT, retains the ability to pass through shields, can turn or reverse much quicker and in less space relative to its size, carries a whole infantry company with a much saner method of deployment, and has a big integrated comscan suite. A lot of the odd stuff is ancillary things like the lookout tower, which I've tried to ameliorate somewhat.
Armament wise, it's probably like the AT-AT and modern tanks - designed to fight at some range. There's no hull-down position or anything reasonable for something the size of an A6; the top guns must be for fighting at distant targets, not firing up-close from ambush positions. The main gun position has approximately 360-degree coverage, with a dead zone near the vehicle much smaller than an AT-AT's entire wooded hemisphere. It's mounted higher than an AT-AT's chin guns, so better range. Anything that gets close enough to use the Juggernaut itself as cover from the top guns is likely to a) get a face-full of spinning armored wheel segment, b) get shredded by the anti-personnel blasters which actually have *extremely* good coverage, or c) win anyway having shrugged off the gatling and top gun. Note the stalk guns have the mounting articulation at the tip - near 360 degree coverage in the vertical plane, and is far enough out from the hull to cover both ends. The one sort-of wooded spot (under the "front" nose) has two autoblasters of its own.
The juggernaut is basically done, bar some touch-ups and fixes here and there.
Comparisons, which is the first time I've dusted off the AT-SE mesh in years, which also reminds me how awesome it eventually did turn out . The walker is ~24.5m tall (a little taller than an AT-AT).

Re: Something big
That it is - I believe it's just a transition animation using the old ortho render. I'm not credited, I don't think, but it's pretty minor, and it's only a 2d shot, so meh, no point kicking up a fuss. None of my meshes themselves are ever really distributed these days.

Re: Something big
Man, the AT-SE makes me wonder what it would look like if the Empire took and redesigned a Warhound Titan from Warhammer 40,000 and put their own spin on it. Which would likely look allot like the AT-SE only with heavier leg armour, no AT-TE cannon and two arms with some very big guns on it, plus the reactor of a small corvette or something.
