I decided there was to be a recess, and that said recess needed to be filled with greeble.

Re: Something big
I just had a thought, since you're not a fan of the designs of ships in the 130+ year future in Star Wars, how would you design a ship from say, 300 ABY In the TIE or Star Destroyer type lineage? Would there be any significant design changes at all? or would the Spaceframe/Hull design remain mostly the same with the main differences being the internals and component qualities/power generation capabilities? We've seen the Dagger Shape for Starships as early as nearly 4,000 BBY, and TIE like designs dating back even further.

Old? I'm talking about discussion about what he feels would be good trends for ships build long after endor and such like that. I most certainly am not requesting any examples at thiis time, I wouldn't want to distract him from his current projects.

Re: Something big
I imagine it'll depend on the security situation. If it's an Empire-like setup (maybe, if you want to go with late post ROTJ EU, a Fel-empire, etc.) with rebels, then designs will probably look just like the civil war Imperial ships - largely optimized for counterinsurgency and peacekeeping, with a few real heavies in reserve. Probably smaller and more efficient ships in each class though, since the Legacy designs were all heading in that direction. Either that, or more bottom heavy based on existing nomenclature; Pellaeon class is roughly line destroyer (ISD) equivalent, but we see a lot more heavy frigate Ardents around, which is good, because the Ardent looks kick-ass.
The Pellaeon class, once one gets over the initial sensation of "fat" (though from some angles it does look rather interesting, I'll admit), isn't too far off the mark for a late period line destroyer. It does take into account some of the trends we see from DE onwards - concealed electronics/C&C, big centerline battery (one imagines), lots of armor, but retains a hangar for general purpose work. It has grown on me since the beginning, but I still wouldn't exactly call it pretty.
If it's a galaxy at war scenario, just have Kuat spam Bellator equivalents.
Some blastboat updates:
Work on this will slow down a bit as I begin (hopefully) an honest-to-goodness paid project You won't see any of that though, well, until next March or so...

Thank you for putting the old pictures back online.
Will you be included in this one ???
If so, congratulations - and please excuse me, I have to detach a probe droid to monitor the release schedule...
not even a hint what me might expect?

And don't say anything here that could put that project in jeopardy.

Re: Something big
I'm hoping that Fractal's new designs (Bellator, Assertor, Corvette 2, Secutor etc) and interpretations of existing designs (TIE Avenger and Defender especially) become Canon, as well as hoping the Book won't be minimalist.
I'm not gonna get my hopes up too high though, my standard mentality for things is to prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and expect something in between.

The Bellator's an interpretation of an existing design as well, albeit quite a bit larger than the original.Azron_Stoma wrote:Ghetto Edit: Oops I forgot that the Secutor IS an Interpretation of an existing design rather than a brand new one...

Re: Something big
You know, I've looked at a few models now and it's the little filler greebles and attention to details that make all the difference. Anybody can start with a block and make a wedge and stick a tower on top and call it an ISD, but you seem to stick as much detail in as the guys who hand built the originals. That shows some dedication even with what must be a huge library of filler bits.
School requires more work than I remember it taking...

Speak for yourself. I'd love to see an interpretation of the Old Republic's Mandator and/or Mandator II star dreadnoughts.Ketan wrote:fractalsponge1 please no experiments in old times remain true to your line
Mainly because I'm working on a film storyline involving a Rebel faction having acquired one and its destruction by an Imperial task force, and would like to beg him to use it in the future. But hey.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Fractal, I say do what you like to do. However, if you are taking requests or ideas, I always like to see ships only described and/or rarely seen. Would love to see your take on the Mandator as well, but if that is off the table perhaps something like the Hammerhead from the KotOR series.

I can't believe I haven't seen this before (this is what I get for not using this website). You are amazing at this, I could never make something like that (tech sheets yes, actual drawings, heck no). By the way, I was wondering if I could use one of the designs (not sure which yet) for my fanfiction. Since I only just now joined this site, I haven't posted it here yet, but it is on force.net and FF.net (its a Gundam/SW, by the way). Would that be okay with you?

You can use the ideas, but if you use an image, credit me or my website on it, and don't try to make any money off of it Otherwise, have fun.
My paid project will be winding down in the next two months, so I'm going to go back to personal projects soon-ish. Updates to come!

Thanks for that. It makes my job a little easier, since I was going to make up my own design before. But knowing my mind, I will probably make one of my own anyway. Not that I would draw it. Also I wasn't planing on using one of the images anyway, just using the design in text. Unless one of my readers on Force.net or FF.net asks to see it, in which case I will make it very clear the design is yours not mine. I decided on the Bellator by the way, just to let you know.

Re: Something big
Funny to see the Blast Boat show up; many years back I did a series of embarrassingly suckful line drawings for the Rebel and Imperial sourcebooks, of which the Blast Boat was one.
This version's a lot more palatable.
