I'm not feeling good about Prop 8. I just wanted to hope that the election of Obama was more than an empty gesture, but irrationality still has the majority here in California. I wish I had done more. I still have hopes that they'll lose in the (hopefully not too) long run.

Good, very good. I'm going to call my sister tomorrow; she's been an ardent Obama supporter since his campaign began and I can imagine the tears of joy coming down her face right now.

And to the Republicans, I have a line from Batman: Year One I've been saving for just this occasion:

Your eight year reign of mismanagement and deceit is at it's end, as all things must. Adios and don't let the f**** door hit you on the way out, you f******.

Its Crimson Tide.
Thanks. I rather like the song.

Jesse Jackson is standing in the crowd at Grant Park with tears running down his face, bawling like a baby.

Of course he is. When he was a young man he was beaten bloody for daring to sit down at "whites only" lunch counters and threatened with death for demanding his civil rights as a citizen of the United States. Now, he's watching an African-American become President of the United States. He and Obama may have their disagreements, but that sort of success is exactly what he and his compatriots were fighting, bleeding, and dying for 40 years ago.

I'm getting a little choked up myself. I'm old enough to remember when blacks were truly second class citizens in this country, and now one is our First Citizen.

I just hope the man lives up to the promise and the hype.... Let's celebrate now, because come tomorrow we'll have to roll up our sleeves and do a LOT of work on this poor, battered nation.
A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. Leonard Nimoy.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid.- Malcolm Reynolds, Captain of Serenity, which sums up my feelings regarding the lawsuit discussed here.

Well, I said if Obama got over 300 EVs, I'd take a picture of me eating my own socks. And they were quite a mouthful. A disgusting mouthful. The things I do for you people.

Bon apetit!

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by McCain's speech. I was half-expecting him to be more along the lines of "RAR! We'll be back in four years!" So, kudos to him on a good speech. The crowd was filled with morons, though.

Where can we see the numbers for Proposition 8? Now that McCain's conceded, that's the only big thing we really have left to fret about.

Wow. Did they choose that for symbolism, or were they blissfully unaware of the parallels?

"Crimson Tide" was about a nuclear submarine with an older, aggressive, hot-headed white captain (Captain Ramsey, played by Gene Hackman), confronting a young idealistic black XO (Lt. Commander Hunter, played by Denzel Washington). In the end, it turns out that Lt. Cmdr Hunter was right, and Captain Ramsey was wrong. Captain Ramsey retires, and hands the reins of power over to Lt. Cmdr Hunter. In short, in "Crimson Tide", a young idealistic black man confronts an older white man and wins.

To contribute in some small way to the celebratory mood, I bring you a song I feel is quite appropriate to this event. I don't care if none of you get it or like it, it just fits the mood, even if you don't know the series behind it and why it is extra fitting.

On BBC, Larry Sabato is projecting an eventual popular vote mandate of 54-46% for Obama. He is projecting that the eventual EV total will reach around 370. Fuck Bolton —this was a crushing win for the Democrats and the pace of Obama's victory was swift and certain.

Which is why I feel like a dick right now. I mean I wish I could feel that passionate about this election, or anything in fact. I mean, I know the amount of progress we've made since blacks were treated like complete and utter scum, but knowing it and seeing it are two different things, which is why Obama winning didn't get that big of a reaction out of me. And yet that's not stopping other people my age from celebrating.

Obama has a slight lead in Indiana and NC with 97% and 95% precincts reporting, but neither can be called yet. Franken vs. Coleman is very tight.

Don't censor your fucking, man.

This multi-racial election and support of Obama's a step in the right direction, definitely. Multi-racial political progress in this fashion could, potentially, blossom into wider cultural progress. I certainly hope it will. It might be worth holding out hope for America to get over its homophobic culture, now.

We shall see.
