I propose we issue single-shot breech loaders to our native militias first.
Btw where do we get steel of the quality we need?

Because the magic to do so no longer exists. Otherwise they'd just make another sword to kill him with and then put the Ring in Orodruin with no worries.
Actually it does, they re-forge Narsil into (I forget the name) with no difficulty at all. Aragorn however doesn't get the chance to use it.

How about we just take a small piece of the broken blade, melt it, make a bullet out of it and shoot Sauron with it?

I'd prefer a few clips of them. He is after all, quite large, and has no internal organs, we'd probably need to blow him to bits with them. (the film version was based on a drawing by tolkin IIRC, so thats probably what he looks like.

So all we have to do is persuade Aragorn to give up Narsil so we can melt it into Bullet for a Sniper to kill Sauron? Yeah I can see that happ.... Hang on... Oooo "Rob Wilson Demi-God killer", I likes the sound of that.
In all seriousness, there is no suggestion that Anduril had the power to defeat Sauron though it was the reforged Narsil.

Damn hit post instead of preview.
It could cleave his body, but it was the seperation from the ring that caused Sauron to be defeated that day, not any property of Narsil itself (otherwise it looks like I'm saying the reforging of Narsil would have weakened it's magic when there's no reason to suppose such). So in effect I could shoot him repeatedly and not actually damage him beyond some holes in his armour.

We need trade, and as we have all this ammo, I'd rather we had the adequate weapons (that we know are properly made) to shoot it with to give to our trained Militia.

Probably quite a bit, but how do you aim it and ensure it hit it's target? Just have a rifleman up there.
The French had a few successes dropping clusters of small metal darts, about 500 at a time, from aircraft in 1915. Against troops massed in the open it could work quite well.
Oh yeah, forgot about that. I thought he meant singly.

Hey you make your points that's what this thread is for.
We can have the fun when someone writes a fic about this.
Yeah, but it has it's limits. Every post from me right now seems to be "no your wrong, nitpick, nitpick, nitpick!" and quite frankly I'm finding it annoying let alone anyone else. I don't want to spoil peoples fun.

Actually that would be funny, at least for the fic.
Aragorn stood up in the prancing pony. "I shall never be seperated from this sword, for it was..." NecronLord cut him off, pulling out his pistol and shooting him in the leg. Aragorn screamed, "You shall never have it foul sorceror." He staggered forward, looking threatening.
"Shut the fuck up and hand over the sword bubba." replied Necronlord, putting another bullet in Aragorn's leg...

Other than the fact that Narsil is kept in Rivendell, and Aragorn never held it until it was reforged? Just tty to convince Elrond to hand it over, and I'm sure that Arawen would not want her love's legacy handed over to strangers either.

Why not? Surely Elrond does not hate the prospect of victory, does he? When we show him what we can do, and tell him that the union of our technology and Elven magic would drive the forces of darkness out of Middle Earth, what reason would he have to say no?

Elrond would never come up with the concept of a titty-fuck or blasting your load all over an Elvish girl's face without pornographic intervention. I mean, come on. Look at his face. That's the face of a man with shitloads of sexual frustration and no way to vent it.

Go read the Book and you'll see that Narsil is revealed in the Prancing Pony After they read Gandalfs letter confirming Striders Identity. In my Complete collection editon it's Page 188 in Chapter ten (entitled Strider).

This depends on whether you go by the movie or the book, in the book Aragorn had it in the prancing pony.

The remaining shards are kept in Rivendell, Strider has the sword with a foot or so of blade still attached.

What do you need the sword for anyways? If you are fighting Sauron directly in all likelyhood you have already won, just toss the ring into the volcano and be done with it.

No your just in Mordor, and Darad Dur is locatd away from Orodruin. If you take the ring in and let him know it, he'll plough straight through your forces until he gets it, hence the need to make him look the other way and attack Gondor because he thought the Ring was there and was not prepared at that point to leave Mordor. The closer the ring gets, the faster he becomes strong again. Just marching i there with the Ring is going to end with a renewed Sauron.

It seems to me that Sauron does not like to lead his troups directly but rather from his fortress in Bhara Dur, also I don't think he can absorb power from the Ring just be being near it otherwise he would know the approximate distance of the Ring from him by the amount of power he is getting from it and Frodo and Sam would have been screwed.
