Re: [Official Thread] 2012 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Voted for Obama a week or so ago via early voting mail-in ballot. Given where I live, it will only be a small bump on Romney's road to carrying the state . . . but hey, I did my part.

Re: [Official Thread] 2012 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Yeah, not surprised my home state is Obama's, leaving aside the "liberal stronghold" thing, most voters are old enough to remember when Romney was our governor.
Hit the polls around 4 PM, short line, parking was a lot harder. Big paper ballot in broken booth, had to give old ladies at either end my address followed by name and get checked off their list. Whatever happens in the next four years, I voted for Stein.

Why? The only states that are truly competitive are Florida, Virginia, and Ohio (maybe Colorado), and all their polls are closed. What happens at 9:00?

Re: [Official Thread] 2012 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Voted this evening at a little after 18:00 at a local elementary school. Showed ID (driver's license) but doing so was optional this time around and it was clearly stated as such on the sign-in table. Didn't see anyone from any party outside the building handing out pamphlets exhorting the benefits of his or her candidate. That was a little unusual.
You press the rectangle with the candidate you want and a green light comes on next to the name. Write-ins on the machine I used are handled by a keyboard with an illuminated LCD showing what you type. It's at the bottom, out of sight here. A large, illuminated "VOTE" button (also at the bottom) completes the process. Apologies for the out-of-focus image.

Waited about 45 minutes to vote today-I never have to wait that long. Turnout, in my small corner of NY at least, was much higher than normal. (Or so it seemed)

Right now Ohio looks good for Obama, he's 57 to 41 ahead.
Florida is still shaky, Obama is 51 to 48 ahead there right now.

Yes. There are a ton of poll closings at that time and in a couple of minutes I'm going to hear the director losing his mind.Kuja wrote:Rob's probably talking about the newsroom rush to get in all the reports and give the views the big horse race finish.Dominus Atheos wrote:Why? NC is hovering at 50 Romney, 49 Obama. Very close there...closer than I expected honestly.

We might not know Florida for a while. Again. I have to wait an eternity to see how my state falls. There are drawbacks to being in a state that matters.

I on the other hand live in Missouri. Still too early to call, but I'd expect us to go Romney.

I'm seriously unsurprised that LA went to Romney. Louisiana is so deep in the national red it's not funny.

That chart was made up by someone who wants to get more pageclicks by pretending it's a close election.Lost Soal wrote:Read a piece earlier, if all the safe states go as expected leaving only the swing states, Obama only needs to win Florida to guarantee victory.Dominus Atheos wrote:Why? Under no circumstances is Wisconsin a "swing state". 538 has both Iowa and New Hampsire at 84% chance of Obama winning.
Also, North Carolina should be on that list. It's at least as competitive as Colorado, NC 74% (R) vs CO 79% (D)

Re: [Official Thread] 2012 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Just logged in quickly to point out that Romney is ahead in the popular vote despite being behind in the electoral vote, and that Florida is in a dead heat. If this turns out to be a reverse of the Y2K election, that would be hilarious.
EDIT: even if Mittens pulls ahead sporadically in the electoral vote [like he just did], he almost certainly can't win without Ohio, and it's at 55% - 44% with 30% reporting. It's not going to be easy to make up that difference. It looks like the auto-bailout is going to be one of those crucial decisions that make or break re-elections.

Re: [Official Thread] 2012 US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Hell, NBC has NC voting results at
Mitt Romney 50% 1,514,080
Barack Obama 49% 1,465,463
With 66% in.
Any list of swing states that doesn't have North Carolina on it is pure bullshit.

According to the BBC website Romney is on 153 electoral votes and Obama trailing on 123. Fun.
