Death

Post by Dargos »

Last week, the 25th of October, I had the unpleasent duty of being by my Mothers side during her final hours. She died of Small Cell carsanoma(sp) in the brain, a quickly spreading cancer. During these hours I witnessed the process of death first hand.

The first clues of her impending death was the body tempeture drop of her arms and legs as her body fought to stay alive and rerouted the blood supply to her body core. Next came the so called "Death rattle" of her breathing , as the mucus membrane lineing her throat and lungs began to detach blocking her airpassages caused the horrible sound. Her resperation began to make long pauses...I dont know the medical term for it. Ten to twenty second pauses between breaths.
I talked to her the entire time telling her that I loved her. I kept talking to her even when she stoped breathing because the doctor told me that the hearing is the very last thing to go when death takes you.

The doctor then came when I called to him. and he pronounced her dead at 14:55 pm.

Though I do not share her religion, nor do I beleave in an afterlife. I hope she is at peace whereever or whenever she is to the great mystery where will will ALL know oneday. She was a good mother, grandmother and friend and I loved her and still do.

I have read many posts on this forum, and I agree with most. However I must say, at least for my Mother, her faith and the care of her preist gave her much comfort in her last days. For that am I thankful for.

I'm sorry man. Hope you get to feel better. My grandmother's death was my first step to atheism.

My thoughts are with you, Dargos. It's always hard loosing a parent. I equate hospitals with death since all of my grandparents and my father were in the hospital when or shortly before they passed on. So, I have a huge phobia of hospitals. *knocks on wood* Hopefully, I will never have to go except for outpatient surgery in a few years to get my tubes tied.

Cancer is even harder to deal with. It's like the person just fades away. My father had emphasema and lung cancer. He was a big man until then. It hurt to see him whittle away to nothingness.

*hugs*

Witnessing the death of your loved ones is not easy to cope with.
Last year my one of my grandfathers died and it was difficult, losing a parent though is, in most cases, even worse.

My thoughts are with you.

When my grandmother died, I was saddened, but I really didn't change in my beliefs. She died at her house, and I never expected it.

Anyway, death is a sad thing, and people should view it as sad, even if they didn't like them.

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might if they screamed all the time for no good reason.

First off...I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for your understanding and I would like to say that the death of my mother HAS NOT changed my beliefs..[

b]I[/b] still do not think there is a God(s) and that there is no afterlife...however I thought that my mother's faith and her religion helped her in her last days...she seemed more at peace with herself and with the world....so I guess religion it was a good thing, at least for her.

My prayers are with you.I lost my dad a year ago to cancer. Before he passed he started to see halucinations.Playing cards with people that were not there for example.I had known he was going to go prior and prepared myself as best I could. It's never easy losing a loved one, even when you know they're going to a better place.
