Most Germans do own a car. Germans are obsessed with cars. Remember the "no speed limit" thing here? It's there for a reason.
Remember that with BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, VW (and Opel, but they're a part of GM these days) a great deal of large car companies reside in Germany.
