Good books on Science and Evolution especally
For those who don't know I'm stuck in a backwater hicktown in South Carolina.
In High School science class consisted of such "Experiments" as weighing weights and coloring pictures. Anyway at one point I asked the teacher when we'd cover evolution. A girl from the back of the class jumped to her feet stomped up to me grabbed me by my shirt color and started shaking me and screaming in my face.
The only thing the teacher did was laugh. Long story short, we never covered Evolution for it being anti-christian and any attempt to debate the matter got a response like that.
Moving on...
As of right now I can afford, nor get time off of work to return to college. So what books can I get ahold of too round out my knowledge of science and especally Evolution?

Invictus ChiKen,
I recommend you read the material on Michael Wong's site: http://www.creationtheory.org/
I don't know of any good books on Evolution besides Origin of Species by Charles Darwin. I plan on reading that after I'm finished with the one I'm currently on.

Here's a few good ones.
For a Defense of Evolution
Roger Pennock Tower of Babel: The Evidence Against The New Creationism
-This is a very interesting read which counters the new creationism and its tactics, and uses a very interesting analogy to the evolution of language. Pennock is a theistic evolutionist (he's a quaker).
Any of Richard Dawkins' books; he's a prominent biologist whose gotten evolved in the battles.
Ernst Mayr What Evolution Is.
-This book was superb for covering the whole bases of evolution, and its a pretty easy read if you are somewhat new to evolution.

I would recommend Richard Dawkins "The blind watchmaker". He covers some of the common misconceptions and strawman distortions made by creationists, while using computer models to show how something could evolve so differently.

I would suggest that you head to your nearest Hastings or equivalent book store. In the science/nature section you should find several books on evolution and creation of the universe. Most of the stores carry the same books, last time I checked they actually had a book entitled "Evolution vs Creation."

If that's what high school is like in South Carolina, no wonder there's so many fucktards living in that state.

She actually was allowed to, basically, throttle you? Compassion straight from the heart. I'm glad you only made a quick question regarding evolution and didn't ask something serious. You might have been burned at the stake for it.

I use Stearns & Hoekstra's: Evolution: An Introduction (like this copy) as my main textbook for the subject. It's quite small, but it covers everything from Darwin's initial thoughts to Fisher's hypothesis and sexual selection and the role of molecular biology in evolution research.
There's always the talk.origin.org website and newsgroup too and many other sites.
For interesting reading that isn't a textbook affair, Richard Dawkins is unbeatable, though Stephen J. Gould is also excellent.
