Africans may be the first Americans

Post by THEHOOLIGANJEDI »

A few years back I was watching a documentary about who could have been to the first Americans on TLC. It was pretty interesting, because an archaeologists found a skull (in South America) that apparently predated the Asian arrival (American Indians). Further analysis of the skull found that it didn't have the charateristics of the American Indians but of African/Aboriginal features. In fact these people believed to be wiped out by the American Indians in a War, evidence found are cave paintings of the War and remanents of the African/Aboriginal Americans interbred with the with the American Indians.

Well I found it worth posting here because it is an pretty interesting revalation on the history of the Americas, so any comment question would be cool.

I'll See if I can find a article on it.

I've heard this theory many times. IIRC its not accept for the most part because the technology of west Africa was just not up to the task, or even remotely so of traveling to the new world.

The problem with this is that it's a little tiny oddity in the face of a large body of well-documented work that indicates that asiatic peoples wandered up and down the ice-age coastline to the Americas. Occasionally you'd have interbreeding between the peoples of the Old World in the thousands of years before the first American Indians crossed the land-bridge. It wouldn't be that unusual to have the occasional person with more african than asian features.

<Edit>
And I thought that the documentary said that the skull had features that were more in common with the Ainu people of Japan than of the Mongoloid people that became the first American Indians.

Well, You gotta remember that a lot of the world was covered in Ice and Galciers. Africans were able to travel to Australia b/c of Glaciers. Some people believe they arrived in S. America by accident and even found that it's a feasable theory.

Im sure over the years we might find evidence that shows ancient peoples were more mobile than we thought.

I read an interesting account that some people believe Chinese ships once visited the Aztecs.

They traveled via a land bridge to Australia. Even with the worlds oceans at there lowest people from Africa would still need to travel by sea a rather long distance.

similarly, its also been proven numerous times that ancient egyptians had contact with central americans. The fact that the olmec heads look classical Nubian is proof enough. But some of the best proof is that ancient egyptian mummies have been shown to have tobacco in them, which is native only to america. :)

Thor Heyerdahl also proved it possible to go from south america to australia, and from africa to america, using nothing but reed boats.

Since Clovis-First is clearly incorrect (even with just Mongoloid peoples), it's pretty clear that we are looking for more evidence of early visitors. However, this new theory seems to fit with considerable evidence. Incidentally, I think there is also some genetic evidence with Native Americans living in South America that does link them indirectly to Aborigines.

That wouldn't suprise me since they both had to travel through Asia to get where they were going. Maybe a split?

I remember that. That was cool.

Oh and the thing about similarities of art is pretty circumstantial. The tobacco thing is far stronger.

These wouldn't be Africans, at least no more African than any other people. Long ago all three races were represented in Asia. For what ever reason, the mongoloids became numerically dominant. Most of the caucasoids were pushed west, but a few were isolated in Japan and became the Ainu. At least one skull that resembles the Ainu has been found in North America.

The Asiatic negroids were pushed south and east into Indonesia and India. Eventually they migrated to Australia by boat; there never was a land bridge connnecting Asia and Australia. Indonesians and Aborigines are more closely related to other Asians than to Africans, in fact, we now know that the people of Madagascar came from Indonesia rather than Africa. Some skulls with negroid traits were found in South America. If they were correctly identified and dated, it would just mean that some groups of Asiatic negroids were perhaps some of the earliest migrants out of Asia.

Aren't there some cultural similarities between very old cave paintings in Brazil and Chile and the Aboriginal art? I thought that that was some additional evidence that they were presenting for this case.

And Johonebesus is clearly correct in his statements about the races in Asia.

Do you guys realize that the Crystal Skull in the Paris Museum, the Pyramid at Teotihuacan, and the Moai of Easter Island could NOT have been built by the same civilization unless that same civilization also had time travel? Clearly they had time travel hundreds of years before the continent was discovered by Europeans.

Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond.

If you want to put some solid facts beneath your conjecturing, read this - a historical scientist has gone to the effort of putting current understanding of human development and migration into a single coherent theory.

This book is a starting point, not a destination - but for non-specialists it is the book on humanity's recent evolutionary history.
