God Smites Purveyors of SIN!!!!

An the lord did use Katrina to strike down gay parties, gambiling & hist most hated sea food!!!!!

Shrimping industry hit hard
Posted: 12:37
CNN Radio's Gary Baumgarten in Biloxi, Mississippi

While there's been a lot of attention on the oil industry and the casinos here in Biloxi, Mississippi, the shrimping industry is down for the count.

Most of the boats seem to have survived. The problem is the boats can't get out to sea because the bridges are down. They can't get under the bridges. Even if they could get them out, there would be no place to dock them because the marinas have been wiped-out. Also, there is no ice to keep the shrimp cold and fresh. There are no processing plants up and running. And they can't get fuel for the boats anyway.

Right now, the boat owners are assessing the damage to their boats and cleaning them up and hoping somebody will ride to the rescue. There is some fear that the owners of the processing plants will give up their land and walk away instead of rebuilding. Some of the shrimpers say they wouldn't criticize the plant owners for doing that, especially if someone wanted to buy the land to build a casino.

A lot of the shrimpers say they elected to ride out Hurricane Katrina on their boats in the bayou. They felt that they were probably safer in the boats than they might have been on land. They had them tied down real good and figured they could ride them up and down with the waves. Even though most survived, they are saying they will never, ever do that again.

I thought shrimp was illegal (non-kosher) only for us old testament believers?

(I love shrimp myself though), is it also illegal for christians?
(Didn't think so...)

As much as they pick and choose? I doubt they give a damn about the Kosher laws.

Shrimp tastes nasty, I think.

In the book of Acts, Peter receives a vision (fell into a trance) and saw a 'great sheet' being let down to earth from the four corners and in it were "all manner of four footed beasts, wild beasts, creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him that said, 'rise, kill, and eat'", this is why Christians don't have to be kosher. "What God has cleansed, ......"

Funny. I've known about that part of the Bible for pretty much all my life (the story itself, not necessarily when or the names). For some reason I always thought it was in the Old Testiment. Not in Acts.

Darn it doesn't like to remote link the banner, oh well.

No the point is the NT does not have any strictures againt homosexuality. One of the mst popularly cited strictures is: Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

The problem is that it is cherry picking from the OT. Because a few chapters earlier you have Leviticus 11:9-12:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

So it you opose homosexuality based on Leviticus, how the can you justify that sinful little escapade last night that you brought your children to at Red Lobster?

The problem w/ the quote (from SAB):
11:5 I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:
11:6 Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
11:7 And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.
11:8 But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.
11:9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
is that there is no mention of seafood products!

Even better NRSV translates 11:6 as:
As I looked att it closely I saw four-footed animals, beasts of prey, reptiles, and birds of the air
This translation prevents you from getting out of it by trying to interpret creeping as shell fish. (Which in my opinion would more likely get you a pass for Crabs & Lobsters, because they can 'creep', but shrimp & their ilk swim)

Oh & hate chilled shrimp, fresh shrimp, or shrimp cocktail. Give my shrimp strirfied or habachied w/ in a nice Terikaki. Or in a shrimp roll.

I'm not too fond of shrimp either. Nor crab, lobster, clams, . . . . etc. When I get seafood, it's usually something like Salmon or Roughy.

The Seventh Day Adventists, an offshoot of Christianity and most similar to Southern Baptist in many ways, is very much against "bottom feeders" and things like Ham and such. They prefer you to be a vegetarian but barring that, definately none of those bottom feeders, or seafood save for fish, ham, etc.

Well see, that's part of the problem right there.

If it weren't for the thorns and the whole crucifixtion thing he could have made the Earth a pretty groovy place.

Lobster bibs for everyone he'd say. And then we'd all sit down and eat our surf and turf. And it wouldn't matter how many of us there were because he can always make more! :D

The spin I heard on it was that really devoted Christians would follow the Kosher dietary laws, but if you want to be an ordinary, run-of-the-mill Christian than you eat whatever you can stuff down the ol' pie hole.

But yeah, Kosher means fish must have fins & scales (no calamari, no catfish, eel, etc).
Animals must have cloven hoofs and chew their cud (cows, deer, goat, sheep are in, horses, rabbit, bear, kangaroo are out).
No reptiles are on the "Kosher OK" list (no snake or gator).
Birds? No problem with birds, any normally edible birs is Kosher, the only non-Kosher birds are th eones no one eats anyway (Hawks, buzzards, etc).

Oh, yeah, no meat & dairy products together (cheeseburger, burger & milkshake).
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
