What exactly is satan guilty for? He flood the world and kill everyone, nor destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, he didn't cause the plagues in Egypts, he didn't direct the tribes of Israel to go on a genocidal campaign against their neighbors.
Now I could have missed something, but all I see in the Bible are allegations that he takes advantage of "Security Flaws" in humanity, flaws intentionally left there by their creator.
Take the story of Job if you will and look at what the compassionate god did to win a bet with satan. The devil didn't do that to the poor man, god himself did.
And no, I don't believe he lied,
What do you mean you don't believe he lied, as posted earlier god claimed that those who eat the fruit shall die that day? They ate the fruit but didn't die.
Seems like a bloody odd thing to be pissed about, being as he's angry at them for making a supposedly immoral choice before they knew what moral was... meh.
I don't see how it was a moral choice at all. If I point at a poisoned apple and say, "Don't eat that apple, it's poisoned and it will kill you before nightfall" and you eat it anyway, have you made a moral choice? It isn't a choice between good and evil, but a choice of personal survival. Had he said that eating the apple will cause a dozen cute bunnies to die, then it might be a moral choice because that is a selfish option.

Besides, why does God need to work in days? Who has the nightshift?
Like I said, God likes to play games.

No, it doesn't!
17 Nevertheless of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat, for on the day you eat of it you shall most surely die.
Just thought I'd mention this. Yesterday I was talking about this, and when I mentioned that line, someone shrugged, laughed, and said, "Maybe they died on the 930th anniversary of eating the apple."

I don't think that god lied in this sense. I think that he did indeed tell the truth from a certain point of View. I read it from a different interpretation. That is to say that once Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden fruit they would become mortal immediatly on the spot and they would be kicked out of paradise and would eventually die due to old age and natural causes.

To say that god lied is a gross oversimplification of what took place in genesism IMHO.

Genesis wrote: Genesis 2:16 Then Yahweh God gave the man this admonition, "You may eat indeed of all the trees in the garden.
17 Nevertheless of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you are not to eat, for on the day you eat of it you shall most surely die."

Gen. 3:1 - The serpent was the most subtle of all the wild beasts that Yahweh God had made. It asked the woman, "Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?"
2 The woman answered the serpent, "We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden.
3 "But of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden God said, 'You must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain of death'"
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "No! You will not die!
5 "God knows in fact that on the day you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil."
6 The woman saw that the tree was good to eat and pleasing to the eye, and that it was desirable for the knowledge that it could give. So she took some of its fruit and ate it. She gave some also to her husband who was with her, and he ate it.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together to make themselves loincloths.
8 The man and his wife heard the sound of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.
9 But Yahweh God called to the man. "Where are you?" he asked.
10 "I heard the sound of you in the garden," he replied. "I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid."
11 "Who told you that you were naked?" he asked. "Have you been eating of the tree I forbade you to eat?"
22 Then Yahweh God said, "See, the man has become like one of us, with his knowledge of good and evil. He must not be allowed to stretch his hand out next and pick from the tree of life also, and eat some and live forever."
That's not the way it happened: NOT WORK, SCHOOL, PUBLIC LIBRARY, OR YOUNG CHILD SAFE BY A LONGSHOT! (It's basically funny pr0n)

Yes, this post is spam. I just couldn't resist the temptation.

Well clearly lucifer is a christian adaptation of the Greek god Prometheus. Prometheus stole the knowledge of fire from the gods and gave it to humans, and for it he was punished. In the bible, satan gives us the knowledge of good and evil, and for it, both he and we are punished. (an untold amount of generations later, we are apparantly still being punished for it)

It's clear to me that satan/lucifer/serpent-person is the noble rebel against insurmountable odds and a tyrannical deity.

In any case...it's just a fairytale.

*shudder* That is a very, very, very, very scary thought.
Although...in that case, if you punch God, does he start whining and crying to his momma?

I tend to remember that satan always asks for permission or gets orders from the big guy before doing his stuff. In the case of job:
12 The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger."
This implies that the biblical satan is one of gods "tools" like an auditor who point out flaws in the construction and tests them for accuracy.

Or in the case of the temptation of christ
1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
This implies that the spirit of trinity led JC into the desert implicitly to be tempted by the devil.

That the devil/satan/lucifer is in the big guys employ is also seen in other passages like this one
18Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, 19holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. 20Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.
etc
