Aye, but it was a reference to BSJ of the diskworld series, yes?

Lord Zentei wrote:While PI is an irrational number and so cannot be written down completely (except as a symbol representing it or as a formula), one would think that they would manage more than zero decimal places. You know, just saying "over thirty cubits" would have been a huge improvement.

Seriously, though, the business about PI is pretty minor compared with the idiocies in the Book of Job and in Genesis, just to name two of the more egrarious examples: these errors cannot be explained away as approximations.
Ah, but scientific accuracy is all about, well, accuracy. The correctness of a scientific theory is determined by its empirical accuracy based on numbers, not some kind of simplistic "true/false" criterion.

dont you just love the way they assume that ancient people were morons?

that they couldnt figure out by pure observation, things like wind, rain or stars?

I mean people could invent the wheel, draw star charts, calenders, weave clothes but could figure out that blood is mportant for life?

The concept of figuring things out logically is completely foreign to the fundie mindset, so it's only natural that they'd assume that others are incapable of it as well.

With the Pi thing, I would think that they could have written down "thirty-one cubits and a bit) or something. Just, more than one significant figure.

I think what they are trying to say is:
"If you suspend reality, and take out all of the scientifically inaccurate bits, then with a little bit of interpretation and warping of words, the Bible is scientifically accurate."

Not really. Ignorance doesn't equal idiocy. After all, suppose you were an ancient man looking up at the sky. What the bloody hell would lead you to assume that the stars were really gigantic balls of hydrogen undergoing nuclear fusion at mind-boggling distances away? No, like everyone else, you'd assume that the stars were tiny shining things that were stuck to the big, bluish-black thing up in the heavens.

When was the OT written down? I assumed it was much before the time of the Greeks. However, you are correct that their value of pi was better. They also figured out that the world was round, and narrowed it's circumference to within 100 miles of our current estimate.
