Looking or a book author
I have several Fundy friends (don't ask) who from time to time try and convert me. One of their tactics is to mention a handful of books by former "Atheists" who "see the light" and become Christian and now attack Evolution and the likes. Anyone know of any of these authors? I am looking for some names here. I want to do a little research on one of these guys. I have a heavy suspicion they were never an Atheist and always had a terrible understanding of science. In other words I think these books and the claimed bios on the authors are entirely lies.
But I would like to confirm this by first hearing of some of these authors.

C. S. Lewis would be an obvious starting point.
"Stop! No one can survive these deadly rays!"
"These deadly rays will be your death!"
- Thor and Akton, Starcrash
"Before man reaches the moon your mail will be delivered within hours from New York to California, to England, to India or to Australia by guided missiles.... We stand on the threshold of rocket mail."
- Arthur Summerfield, US Postmaster General 1953 - 1961

Thats gotta be it. My friend wouldn't stop talking about how the author set out to disprove Christianity and then became a Christian while writing the book. The article linked too indicates that this is an intentionaly misleading aspect of the book, but the author does state he wrote it well after he converted.

There's also Evidence that Demands a Verdict, by Josh McDowell. I found it in my parents' basement a while back, and I've been meaning to read it critically; I'm pretty sure it's one of the more influential apologetics books, if you're interested in apologetics in general.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

An Erisian Hymn:
Onward Christian Soldiers, / Onward Buddhist Priests.
Onward, Fruits of Islam, / Fight 'till you're deceased.
Fight your little battles, / Join in thickest fray;
For the Greater Glory / of Dis-cord-i-a!
Yah, yah, yah, / Yah-yah-yah-yah plfffffffft!

You should accept a copy of one of Strobel's books if they offer it. Then open it up in front of them and giggle as you list the fallacies the man uses.neoolong wrote:Lee Strobel's Case for Christ is the one I've seen most come up.
There's a case against Case for Christ as well. Here.
Honestly. I have a little "Student Edition" of one of his books, and there's probably five times as many fallacies as there are pages in it... at least.
Oh, and... while he proclaimed he would "answers the tough questions", he, in fact, answered none of them. Just a lot of beating around the bush and goalpost moving.
