I'm looking forward to this. Gore's presentation alone makes me weep for the results of the 2000 presidential election...
Anyone see the trailer for "An Inconvenient Truth?"

Good trailer. What hit me the most were the Katrina scenes, for obvious reasons.
And yes, I've definitely noticed a trend of warmer winters and hotter summers over the last twenty years from firsthand experience. In March 1987 I had to wear a coat for the first day of spring in Louisiana, but in 1997 I was in shorts and practically nothing else. This year I was in my underwear and sweating!

Gore is NOT impressing me there. Gee, a politician mouthing off when he's in a position to do jack shit about it? Never saw that before...
But a highly neccesary film. I'll buy tickets to support it regardless of whether or not I watch it.

Being a resident of the Netherlands, living in a city that's 6.5 metres below sea level, i am ofcourse, deeply concerned, as are most if not all dutch people about the potential rise in sea levels. The arrogance, ignorance, and plain stupidity of those who insist we're not to blame as a species, that we have nothing to worry about and can merrily continue to pollute is something that's almost unbearable. Fortunately, my own government seems particularly sane on the matter compared to some. A national project is already underway, strengthening the coastal line defenses and dikes throughout the country. Still, i fear it's not ambitious enough. For thousands of years we have fought against the sea, becoming ever more proficient at it. Today, we are total masters of nature in our domain. Even the floods of the mid nineties that proved disastrous for large parts of europe were efficiently dealt with by us, even though they should have struck us the hardest due to us being the delta of the great european rivers. But we can only remain the masters of the water so long as the climate stays as it is now. If the levels rise, we may need to take the concepts of the Delta works, or the great rotterdam flood gate, to scales that surpass mega-engineering levels.

incidentally, the current program to upgrade existing defenses is estimated to cost around 25 billion dollars. On a further note, the current dutch infrastructure of defenses against the water has a total value of 2.5 trillion us dollars. (take that new orleans)
