Any doctors or cardiologist here...

Post by Darth RyanKCR »

I've been thinkin about the reason I had my ICD implanted. Normally from what I understand a defibrillator is implanted because the resting heart just randomly on it's own begins to race or have other arrythmia. Mine was put in because when my adrenaline gets up and the hearts starts to beat faster, it begins to race out of control. It's only gone off twice and the first time the heart began to race again but broke the rhythm on its own.

Have there been cases like this before and can someone direct me to where I could read it? I've have been able to find anything yet.

Thanks

1. Why are you asking on a message board instead of seeing your cardiologist

2. I am not sure what exactly you are asking.

A defibrillator is used to "shock" the heart back into a normal rhythm. Defibrillator's are only used for two types of arthmias, pulseless Ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation.

I would expect your heart to pump faster when your adrenaline "gets up", like with everyone else. Since defibrillation is supposed to "reset" the hearts electrical activity, I would have thought something which stimulates the heart like adrenaline would run counter to the defibrillator.

It's not gone off in over a year. I've avoided situations that would get me very worked up and I have avoided Roller Coasters (one of the hardest things I've had to do). I actually did talk to them about it and they said my heart is different then what is to be expected. They expected arrythimia but they don't see supra ventricular tachycardia being caused by adrenaline. My electrophysiologis said my heart is acting like a normal heart except it runs at the high rate for longer than normal.

I just wondered if anyone knew where to find similar cases or have heard of any. More curiosity then anything.
