How does food get to the cities then? If you say by train, most go through the suburbs so it woudn't be unfeasable for them to stop and stock up the shops there on the way.
Assuming there is the fuel for such stops and that all cities are still accessible and not declined support with ever decreasing resources.

To reinforce the point, the resources are best dropped off at central locations; why waste fuel travelling all through the suburbs when you can leave it in the city?

Also, don't discount regional variations. Chicagoland will do very well because it is the central hub for the nation, and all of the suburbs have major rail lines running through them where traffic will be traveling on them to Chicago for redistribution.

Conversely, Phoenix will probably cease to exist, as well Las Vegas, and large numbers of people in their suburbs might well perish.

That's good news. My mother and sister are moving to Chicago, my mom finally snagged a guy who looks like a keeper, he's an architect there.
