Clips aren't really something you want to base your judgment of a given era's politicians on. Sure he didn't sit down with a couple horus worth of footage but what he did watch is, in part, historical record NOT re-enactment. From that he made a qualitative judgement about the spekaing style of 1950s pols versus modern pols.
