Why does the great maker?
Why does God/Allah/Earth spirit allow evil things to happen?
I hear this question all the time & I think well why not?
I would if I was God I’d piss off all the little pieces of shit that lived on that forsaken dump down there. I’d make people fall down manholes or cause buses to crash into schools. I’d pervert the minds of my subjects so that they would beat the shit out of each other. I’d create new religions by the bucket load with all of them competing to be the most stupid. I’d bring back dead people & make them rampage across the Earth, and then order my angels to kidnap rednecks & mess around with their rectums. I would burn atheists for not worshipping me in fact I would burn any body who didn’t worship me or something that I liked. So devil worshipers are ok, kung fu worshipers are ok, vegetarians could rot in hell. I would create a hell & then send random people to burn in it for an eternity for the most silly of reasons like not brushing your pony twice a week...
"I didn't have a pony"
"Insubordination burn shithead"
This is horrible!
Why not I couldn’t give a shit what you little shits down there think.
We could rebel!
Go on I dare you I’ll bring a terrible plague on you all & cause your heads to become arseholes, I made your asses & I can unmake them in a second.
I would have so much fun if I were God.

There is no great maker or god. People just invented god as a spiritual comfort blanket. If something bad happens you can throw your head back and scream "Why" thus blaming god. If somethign good happens you can smile and know the big guy in the sky is watchign out for you.
The fact of the matter is there is no god, there is no destiny. God was invented by ppl with no-balls to take the blame for their actions.

Actually, I'd always seen people use the Devil as a cop-out for responsibility, at least in Christian society. Christianity allows the existance of a Devil, a lord of evil and lies and deceit, so they brush off foul deeds as the acts of Satan or Satan's influence on them.
In Islam, the belief centers around predestination, that Allah knew what was going to happen and set things up to fail/succeed accordingly. Again, a ducking of responsibility in my opinion.
My belief (and this is something I felt before I really 'got into' Judaism) is that God created people with brains, individuality, desire and a conscience for a reason. We are on our own, to decide as we please, the easy path for quick gain that tosses orphans in the street; or the long hard slog with honest rewards.
Trying to pin God with blame for evil is indeed trying to duck responsibility, I'd presum that if you could ask God "why do you allow evil in the world" he'd turn the question back and say the same to you. I don't want to be a robot, being a good little CareBear because God programmed me ot be perfect. If I am good or bad, it is because I chose to be and I'll get the results of that come the end.
A lot of believers use God as a sop for their own failures. Fuck 'em, I say, if you don't use that brain God gave you to think and act for yourself-- keeping the principles of decency and honesty in mind-- then you're in deep trouble. A street kid who thinks for himself and steals to survive is closer to God than the mind-numbed robot that blindly goes to church and recites all the right chants without ever stopping to ask "what the hell's this all about, anyway?"
Sigh, more Coyote thoughts a-ramblin'....

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

I basically agree with Coyote. Humankind is perverse; we need only look within ourselves and look at others to see this I said perverse, not perverted...no First Law based on this, please. In order to prevent human perversity from causing harm to others, either through mischief or malice, any deity would have to remove free will from humankind. A caring deity who wants humankind to be capable of thinking and true interaction would not do such a thing.
Natural problems occur due to the need of the planet to renew itself. Volcanic eruptions form new land; storms bring necessary rain. The lightning restores an imbalance in electrical charges; only fire can cause the scrub pine to sprout. Everything has a purpose within theology, though it may not be understood. And I have a nagging sense I'm going to come off sounding like a mystic rather than a pragmatist...no more 2:30 am posts on religion for me

Okay, I'm an atheist (or only a weird crackpot), but why always assume that if a god or a whole pantheon of them exists, He (or Them) must be:
- - Omnipotent and can do anything He want;
- Good;
- Willing to get our sorry souls in somekind of afterlife?

It is a false dilemma to assume that this omnipotent deity must choose between absolute totalitarianism (removing free will) and absolute anarchy (allowing hideous evil to continue unabated). The Dark wrote:I basically agree with Coyote. If you were God, maybe you wouldn't remove free will, but if you saw some child molester kidnapping some kid and spiriting him/her away for the purpose of torturing, raping, and murdering the poor child, would you just sit there? Fuck no. If I had the power, I'd vapourize the bastard and teleport the kid back to his parents. This would hardly remove free will from mankind.

Especially since having "free will" doesn't require that you be free to do everything. Personally, I'd rather the ability to teleport at will, in exchange for the ability to molest childeren (for example).... seems like an easy trade-off?

Talon, I keep reaidng these posts of yours about how much of a bastard God is. Do you not think that, for an atheist, you have far too many issues with Him.
I might as well turn round and rant about what a bastard the fire-breathing dragon that lives in your garage is.

If there was a god, he probably forgot about his middle school science project we live in, and is busy tinkering with something more important.

God doesn't let bad things happen, people just do bad things and other people blame Satan and turn to God which does nothing. Its a sick, sad loop of self defeating purpose. Most people don't like to admit that humans are the root of all evil.

As a deist I think God created all life in the Universe, and created us to be imperfect, with great strenghts and great weaknesses. According to what I believe, God decided not to interfere with th Universe, we have to achieve peace (not total, but a basic peace) on our own. It doesn't make sense for God to create us imperfectly and just interfere every now and then. With thatt scenario God could just give the Unverse instant bliss. Or just create a race of perfect beings. (which also doesn't make much sense)
Giving Us bliss would be like a Rich parent giving his kids money for sitting on their asses. We have to work to reach peace, even if it's not 100% percent peace and bliss. Hell I would be unconfortable living in a world where there is total bliss myself. Even if I go to Heaven, I would kill to be reincarnated. But I would eventually like to go to Heaven.
