The actual main problems I can see with such seeking grenades is target discriminaiton (how is our drone supposed to tell a non-combatant from a target?)

Easy: the drone would be controlled by an infantryman and tossed into a suspicious building when needed.

You're both missing the fact that this is for reconnaissance only, It's supposed to give intel on enemy positions without risking any lives, not actually killing anything. This thing can barely keep itself flying for half a minute, and it's not even carrying any cameras yet.

Yeah, so? If it's disposable, analyzing the cost is quite an important question.

And if it can't carry a grenade, it can at least tell the operator where to throw one. Or ten.

Then think of it as less of a grenade and more of an indirect-line-of-fire very maneuverable... uhh... missile or something. Do missiles require jet or rocket propulsion? Would an explosive propelled by artificial wings qualify as a missile? If so, then yeah!

For all we know, future infantry can deploy tiny flying UAVs that can hover up high so they can get a vantage point to designate targets that can be killfucked by those Quidditch-missilegrenades that the soldiers can launch indirectly without having to expose themselves.

They can be stuck in fighter planes, or tanks, or other vehicles and releashed to act as countermeasures or something even. Though how one sticks flares into tiny winged robots, well, who knows?

It'd be shit to have a flying, buzzing, winged ball come at you and make your face explode.

Heh...in The Future(TM) you can have swarms of tiny drones crawling all around the tank as it drives down the street, checking out nooks and crannies and windows and doors for RPG wielding ambushers and then blowing their balls off with explosive payloads

Holy crap. Fuck yeah. Imagine, in THE FUTURE, an army advance can be covered by BINILLIONS of micro-UAVs that fly in flocks all over the air, roosting on buildings and roofs and telephone wires and watching for enemy movements before signalling the soldiers and tanks that it is clear. But whenever they detect enemies, they'll come in SWARM and peck the mujahadeen insurgent's EYES OUT with their BEAKS! While cawing and crowing!
