This seems a fairly pointless endeveaour, but, amusing nonetheless:

The idea is to use the jet to reach 300 mph and the rocket to go the rest of the way to 1,000 mph. Noble figures it should take 42 seconds to reach that velocity.

Technically they'll also take the low altitude aeroplane speed record.

Probably at Black Rock in Nevada, the same as SSC, unless it's too short.

That's what I was wondering, as I didn't think Britain would have a large enough track. The SaltPlains where everyone tests these things would also work.

You know you all could have read the actual article and learned that they in fact intend to test in South Africa. The American sites are too short. The chosen site at Hakskeen Pan allows them to build a 16km course with 1.6km of open run off at each end.
