After a journey that has lasted four years, NASA's Dawn probe has finally reached her first destination: the asteroid Vesta. If everything goes fine, she'll be orbiting it during a year before departing to the next stop: the minor planet Ceres.
Here's JPL release: http://dawn.jpl.nasa.gov/feature_storie ... _orbit.asp.
Images of Vesta taken during approach are here: http://dawn.jpl.nasa.gov/multimedia/ves ... allery.asp. The large mountain that can be seen on the lower part of the second image I guess that will be the central peak of the huge crater that lies on Vesta's south pole.
Dawn: in orbit around Vesta.
