No, I believe a highly superstitious and impressionable group can jump to any conclusion.Simon H.Johansen wrote:Hoax?? Do you think that thousands of farmers kill all their livestock for no reason and mash their inner organs just as part of a hoax?? Or that 500 people yearly die as part of a hoax??
And as to 500 people a year being killed by this thing, what's the Mexican government's stance on this thing? Do they investigate on the premise of the goat-sucker being responsible? Parts of Mexico are virtualy lawless, people get murdered and go missing all the time. A Mexican friend of mine had his sister in law disappear. He didn't blame El Cupacabra.
The Mexican immagrants I know laugh when they talk about it, mostly.
Superstition lies at the base of this thing, just like alien abductions and cattle mutilations. And I have no doubt that hoaxes ARE carried out to perpetrate the legend, just like alien abductions and cattle mutilations.
