porn vs art

Post by Enforcer Talen »

we've done a topic similar to this, but I want more exact answers. where is the line drawn between porn and art? whats the defining point, whether it be naked statues or pictures of nudes?

I think its safe to say that once we hear the squelching sound of a man pounding a woman, who is screaming in ecstacy, that we've crossed the threshold.
Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Now before someone gets on my case for supporting pat kelly and co.

would this naked 15-16 year old be considered Child porn or Art?

mind you, this was my favorite poster when I was a teenager, so I am a tad biased....

You can't see anything in that picture. No tits, nipples, pussy, fucking, wanking or sucking so it definetly is not porn, but I wouldn't really call it art either. It's just a poster with a good looking girl and a snake.

on the half of the poster that's not shown her "mons" is of course covered by the stratigicly positioned snake. (Thus presenting a variation of Eve & the Serpent with the illusion of the snake is coming out from between her legs.)

That *is* art, but it makes me worried: When *I* go to get an X-Ray, the one thing I always insist on is that the doc always makes sure that he puts a little lead bib over my balls.

On the subject, porn is art for sexual gratification. Art is imagery intending to cause emotional response. So...to me, porn is art, but art doesn't have to be porn.

I suppose I would say that porn displays sex, not sexuality. After all, you can have sex with 90% of your clothes still on, so most solitaire nude imagery doesn't make it as 'porn' to me.

I think the line between "art" and "porn" is often obscured by semantics. Here are the criteria I go by:

If the subject is in the nude, blatantly showing off his or her genitalia, and if the motion of the picture is centric to those genitalia, and if there is no inspiration behind the photograph other than to pictorally describe those genetalia in a sexual manner, it's porn.

If the subject is nude, but the picture is form-centric, describing the clean lines of the human body and the beauty they depict, and if genetalia are depicted in a non-sexual way but rather as a simple part of those clean lines of the human body, it is art.

Picture of the snake: Art.
X-ray picture: Very artistic porn.

My answer: nobody with an objective mindset gives a fuck.

We are arguing over subjective classifications which are of no use to anyone. The only reason people think it's important to distinguish between porn and art is that some close-minded assholes in this society want to ban one but not the other, so they need to concoct various rules which allow them to do that without making it obvious that it's an arbitrary and subjective distinction.

Eh, there was a huge incident over porn vs art when Barnes and Nobles started carrying David Hamilton books a few years back (nude pictures of teenage girls).

I think what the courts finally said was, it's highly subjective, and there's no sex.

Can't we have some kind of quality control for porn? then we could have art alongside porn, as opposed to art, a few good bits of porn and mountains of tacky shit.

I'd personally like to have porn so good that it permanently blurs the distinction between the two, as opposed to all this air hostess bullshit or whatever.

what about the art where its like a sculpture of a vagina or penis? what about HR Gigers art that is full of all maner of sexual content disguised as non-sexual things?

there IS no difference. if i wank to a picture of Michelangelos david is it porn or art?

theres no difference. the difference is in the minds of people who segregate pictures they like for different reasons into different categories. if they think its perverse, its porn, but if they dont its art.

If the artist/craftperson thinks, "I hope lots of people enjoy jacking off to this!" while creating the object, it's porn.

Oh, and I think it is important to delineate between the two. I wouldn't have a problem showing a child Michelangelo's "David" or a Boticelli, but I'd prefer he not see "2 FIST CUM ACTION!!" Now, you may say that this is a personal choice that I'm free to make as a parent, and that's so, but no man's an island. What's OK to show on prime time television, for example? Is 2 FIST CUM ACTION ok? Are the great works of the Renaissance? These are reasonable questions to ask.
