this is definitely wrong, what if your one male gets his balls broken only a day into this new world? or what if this one male gets struck by lightning or any of a million other things take him out?

basically you need 2 men for safety's sake

I think we are forgetting the really big problem that this society will face at the dawn of the first generation. Men don't die during childbirth, women can.

None of the candidates have experience as a midwife, or are OBGYNs. This means that any complications that arise during pregnancy could be fatal to the mother and/or the child.

If you have to do a C-Section (and in today's world they are pretty common) and no one knows how to do it, you could possibly lose a breeding female and would certainly lose the infant.

This risk doesn't just go away with the first generation, every infant you want makes you roll the dice on the health of the mother. Make no mistake, your females are going to have to endure this risk several times, and I would expect at least some fatalities in those who you have chosen.

This is why I picked the uneducated girl as the primary breeder, she is expendable.

Nick and Maria to copulate and make lots of little intelligent babies. We have brains in Nick, and athletic ability AND brains in Maria. They're both young and fertile and have the best opportunity to have children.

Probably want Betty in there for her construction knowledge. With two young backs working for her, I'd bet that they could get a lot accomplished.

Other than that, I dunno. That seems to be the essential bit: Shelter and reproduction. Beyond that, I don't really see any necessity for the other two, but two more people couldn't hurt. More copulation, more reproduction, more hands for construction. I think that's enough to sustain life, if not repopulate.

But one of them is a qulaified doctor (so it's been a few decadees since that lecture - he still knows more about childbirth than me)

SInce half of you don't seem to know how to pay attention, it could be ANYTHING that destroys the human race. Given certain aspects of what MIGHT have happened, you cans peculate on what will need to be done in the future.

I did think about that, but I dismissed him because it would be a huge gamble to take up a useful slot for someone that may or may not have experience in this.
