Crater size formula please

Crater size formula please
Can anyone provide the formula for calculating crater size from a surface detonation in a vacuum? I don't so much need the formula as I need the distace from the hypocenter where the 15psi wave will be felt and I don't know how that would even work. Basic Iron asteriod if it matters

You can't have a shockwave in a vacuum, and ignoring that radius of a shockwave doesn’t have much of anything to do with how big a crater you get, other then that both get bigger with yield.Ender wrote:Can anyone provide the formula for calculating crater size from a surface detonation in a vacuum? In the atmosphere a crater represents where the nuclear fireball has touched the surface. In a vacuum there is no fireball, just radiation, which I suspect, would give a much wider shallower crater. I don’t think you'll find any formula for this.

I can predict crater size with object and velocity, but not your blast-path.
Just know that if you're hitting an asteroid with an asteroid, the ejecta blanket is going to be BIG.

If you want a crater, you need a surface-penetrating weapon. Cratering is calculated for optimum charge burial depth. Otherwise you just get surface boiling.

What sources are you using? That could be interesting.CaptainChewbacca wrote:I can predict crater size with object and velocity, but not your blast-path.
He's talking about setting off a nuke on the surface, not playing space billiards.Just know that if you're hitting an asteroid with an asteroid, the ejecta blanket is going to be BIG.
